  1. I've rarely seen spot lamps on commercial tractor (the truck part)/trailer combinations. I'm talking of cab mounted spot lamps controlled and aimed by the driver. Now, on the other hand, commercial trucks have to make deliveries in all kinds of weather (it has to go through!) and many have foglamps or auxiliary driving lights mainly mounted to the front end/bumper. Another consideration is that, while a first world country, many trucks have to traverse narrow secondary roads and some have lights mounted so that the driver can see where the edge of the roadway is located. Legally, at least in California, only two sets (a total of 4) of forward facing lights are allowed to be on at the same time. High beam lights are considered to meet that 4 lamp limit. So the truck can have one set of low beams lamps and one set of auxiliary lamps in use. Plus there are often lamps mounted to the rear of the cab to keep track of what's happening to the trailer but they have to be carefully aimed so that they don't blind drivers overtaking from the rear. I'd never heard the term SAR before so I had to look it up. "The term SAR was derived from the American Kenworth item listing: Short [Bonnet], Australian, Right hand drive." We don't come upon Kenworth SAR's in the wilds of California. https://www.pressreader.com/australia/big-rigs/20160812/281728383905672
  2. Mom and Dad divorced, Mom got the van but never had a driver license. I just got my license about 6 months prior to the split so this is what I got. No spot lights or running lights but everything else is the same including the color. 170ci straight six, manual choke, auto, a/c was "how fast can you go with the wind wing windows reversed". (You kids can Google "manual choke" and "wing windows") 15-17mpg but gas was 30 cents a gallon in 1970 and used a quart of oil every other gas fillup. I never noticed the "goggle-eyed" look of the front end but it was wheels so who cares? Second car was a VW Bug that I bought in Portsmouth NH just after I got stationed at Pease AFB. White, manual choke, manual transmission (like shifting in oatmeal), wing windows (theme developing?) $2222 out the door.
  3. Let me know which dealer has a Roadrunner for sale. I'd be on that like ugly on an ape. I'd even wave a coupon.
  4. Well, with the CHP 10-21 was to call someone as in "10-21 the Sgt" (which was never good). The only one worse than that was "10-19" which meant go back (usually to the office) as in "10-19 and see the Sgt" which was never-ever good. I'd get one of those and would re-double my usual search for a drunk driver so I could put that meeting off.
  5. That's like saying a bog standard VW Beetle could outrun a class A motorhome. I lived through that. The 1980 St Regis (and the Gran Fury) had an emission strangled 318ci that was good for about 140 to 160hp. All those ponies were pushing about 4800-5000lbs of police car/beefy dudes/radios/flares etc. I had one that on a straight, flat Interstate (I-680 in Milpitas/San Jose) that after being floored-literally floored-after 6.5 miles was doing just about 100mph. A rise in the roadway, just a rise and not a hill, would noticeably cause the car to slow. The only good thing about that POS was that it came with the first installation of halogen headlamps. 40 years later I still shake at the memory. It did have a/c though.
  6. IDK, my "local" shop is 68 miles away. And they were cutting back on model stuff anyway. ?
  7. Maybe you just took it out of the car wash but you seem to keep a very clean machine. My experience has been that cleanliness is the clearest indication of the professionalism of the driver.
  8. I assume its a Covid mask, the local authorities have mandated every person wear a cloth facial covering if outside the home. The Ford is just going with the times.
  9. Outside a "higher end" grocery store in Windsor, CA. I believe that is a '46 Ford stakebed under that material. And yes, that is mine at the far left.
  10. Somebody has too much money on their hands. $280, 000 to be more precise. With the bonus of it being ugly too.
  11. I recall right after the big refresh of the Mustang in 2005. I went to a Ford dealer for some reason or another and there was one on the lot. Just a plain vanilla 6 cyl with auto and in Legend Lime. Even that had a dealer markup of $5k on a sticker of something like $21K. I was polite and didn't ask about the salesman's smoking habits. There's just a certain percentage of people that just have to have the latest shiny new thing and will spare no expense to do so. In fact Apple has based their entire marketing ethos on those types. (Observation off) Getting back does it speak poorly of me that the first thing I looked for after seeing it was a Yugo was the amount of rust evident? Oxymorons: jumbo shrimp and Yugo Sport.
  12. I'm down to gallons per week. 2 gpw between 3 vehicles.
  13. Update: YouTube video from a month ago.
  14. If our Costco is any example (and I'm sure it is) they have plastic wrapped all the clothing items-no try ons-and removed all the benches in the food court. It isn't really essential that I buy another shirt or a pair of denim pants. I did get a hot dog there yesterday with the condiments in little plastic cups. Adult beverages were still available so I'm figuring that they are essential. ?
  15. They fired the Captain today. Hope your daughter is doing well. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8182077/Navy-relieve-commander-coronavirus-stricken-USS-Roosevelt-public-plea-help.html
  16. I always come back to this version. Still looking for a figurine of Slappy-I've got the car.
  17. I was looking about the internet when I found a site that displays user uploaded pdf files. There's a lot of chaff with the wheat but if you search for, say "mustang", it will come up with all kinds of stuff including car club newsletters, etc. https://www.yumpu.com/en/mustang or Corvette https://www.yumpu.com/en/corvette Play with it. Afterall, what else are you doing?
  18. Two days ago, Costco gas line in Rohnert Park, CA. Maybe not this one but honestly, how many screaming yellow Sunbeam 260ci Tigers are out there? BTW, it sounded potent.
  19. Just another Revell GT Lemans kit from my local (68 miles away) hobby shop. Now off to Indycals for some options.
  20. Ebay purchase of an opened Revell Corvette C7.R but missing the decal sheet. BUT(!!!) in the same mail delivery was two decal sheets from Indycals. 2001 Corvette C5.R with the post 9/11 markings (flag draped across the top/NYPD-FDNY logos on the nose) AND a C7.R sheet I had ordered just on a whim. Its all good.
  21. I got your answer right here, a current day version: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_Straight
  22. Did anyone else notice the car in the original post looks like Stan Motts "Cyclops" in Road and Track? It had all the features, over 60 years ago.
  23. If you at all have the time, DO NOT miss the Blackhawk Museum. Especially if you like muscle cars, brass era cars, Italian coach built cars, Italian studio built cars, etc, etc. If you're traveling with a "shopper" the museum is located in a high end shopping center. For this kind of venue the tickets are almost laughably cheap @ $15 and less if you qualify for discounts. Last time I went (10 years ago) the Alfa Romeo B.A.T. 5 and a Shooting Brake done in a solid copper body were both on the floor. Exhibits rotate, just so you know. https://blackhawkmuseum.org/cars/ The California Auto Museum is located in Sacramento and although I haven't been there I hear good things. https://www.calautomuseum.org/
