I always entertained the theory that some Pontiac chief ("chief": get it? I slay myself) came up with a product and pushed it so hard that no one had the cojones to tell him/her "Boss, that's a gawd awful design" so it sailed through. Bad groupthink would work too.

Never let a classic idea go to waste: Los Angeles Jan 2018 Yes, that's a Volvo s/w

Pretty much everything on the outside of a Pontiac Aztek.

Whoops. Gotta pay better attention
The Junkman replied to JJ Deuce's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Early in my Ebay experience, I won two ESCI 250 SWB kits. I just saw 250 SWB. When I got them I found they were pretty much glue bombs and had no tires. I went screaming back to the original listing and.....glue bombs with no tires. Slapping of head ensued. And a lesson learned-read carefully. -
I'm hoping this works out. I found a Fujimi Porsche 917 on Amazon last week. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MMWAFVI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The thing is; it was priced at $7.14 with $0.00 shipping. Obviously that's changed in the interim. I pulled the trigger on it because: why not! I just got a shipping notice and its supposed to be on the West Coast (the Best Coast) between the 8th and 23rd of April. I'll let you know how (if) it works out. It sort of reminds me of when Model Expo was blowing out of the plastic model scene. I got two Accurate Miniatures GS Corvettes and a Tamiya Skyraider for (basically) the cost of shipping.

The Junkman replied to 64SS350's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
88 parts and a level 4 grade. I'm not thinking its a snapper. Take a look at some of the detail pics on the link. https://www.revell.de/en/products/modelmaking/cars/motorsport/ford-gt-le-mans-2017.html https://stage.revell.de/fileadmin/import/images/bau/07041_%23BAU_FORD_GT_LE_MANS_V01_02_LOW.PDF -

Does this look familiar?
The Junkman replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never watched the show but I heard that one point late in its run they were reduced to using AMC Matadors as victim cars. -
2019 Ridler winner
The Junkman replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm looking at the 1-1 and I'm thinking "I hope they've got hydraulics on that thing because the only way to access the lug nuts to change a flat would be to take the fender off." Cool job -
West Coast Hobby Shop Recomendations?
The Junkman replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There used to be a plethora of great hobby shops in the SF Bay area; San Antonio Hobby, D&J Hobby, Franciscan Hobbies... Now there are darn few and none of which would I call a good old time hobby shops. Berkeley Ace Hardware had an entire basement full but it moved and is now just a shadow of its former self. Hobby Co of SF on Geary was just OK the last time I went there. OTOH a few blocks to the west is Ton Kiang, some of the best Dim Sum in the city. Or go to Boudin Bakery at Geary and 10th for the best SF sourdough bread at its point of origin. Sorry -
Just the new 1969 Revell Boss 302 Mustang. I haven't bought diddly squat in a long time but I pulled the trigger on this one. I was going to turn it into a Trans Am racer (Dan Gurney with Fred Cady decals) but I really like what they did so its going to be stock. Maybe another kit is in the shopping list.

What did you see on the road today?
The Junkman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"A long time ago in a country far, far away" (Actually June 2016 in Montreal during the run up to the Canadian GP) They had closed a few streets downtown for a vendor/spectator fair. Somehow, someone thought it a good idea to put this out in the Porsche display. Dents, scrapes, rust... Never realized carbon fiber could rust like that. -

Buying Belkits in the USA
The Junkman replied to Luc Janssens's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can also go here: http://www.mshobbies.com/belkits-wrc/ No connection with the seller but I've bought from him a number of times. Mark's a good guy. -
A link to a list of announced releases. Its a bit wonky-works one time but not the next. Not a great deal new on the car front. http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/Ausstellungen/Nuernberg2019/Nuernberg_2019.html

Yeah, they're expensive. But you only have to sell one..... Just speculation but I'd bet some of those are mis-typing upon entry. Also what is it called when a bunch of people look at the same thing without buying it and the system interprets it as desire-thereby jacking up the price each time its looked at. Dynamic pricing isn't it but close. You see that alot in searching used books.

Some talk on car movies.
The Junkman replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What they did to Chargers on Dukes of Hazard must have left you curled up in a ball on the floor. -
I got several of those back a few years ago. It looks like a good base for the 1965 early season cars (Daytona, Sebring). By May (Reims) the cars had changed and by Lemans they were almost completely different. Replace the wheels with Halibrands, look critically at the engine/transaxle and there's a good shelf model. Can't speak to fit and finish. Pictures from that era are vital.

Retro Ford GT at 2019 Daytona 24
The Junkman replied to Gt fan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Related: has the racing version of the Revell Ford GT hit these shores anywhere? -
Hybrid tech has come a long way and isn't much of a sacrifice in performance, as proven by the various high end hybrid cars on the road. I think we're at about the same place, aircraft enginewise, as we were at the end of WWII. The epitome of piston engine development but soon to be supplanted by jets. If we ever reach the point of getting the same range on a charge as a tank of gas and followed by an equivalent time to refuel/recharge only then will the IC engine be in danger. I live in a rural/small town area. 65 miles to the next city of any real size. The idea of spending an hour to drive there followed by 4-5 hours of recharge time so that I can go home is, and will remain, a non-starter with me.

Did anyone look under the billboard? Good news is that it looks as if it was mainly a framework that held the banner. Metal-on-metal crime. I'm surprised this didn't get more publicity at the time.

I spent my first 10 years within earshot of LAX. I recall that if it rained for 3 days in a row they closed the local schools. You have to recall that primarily the LA Basin is just that: a bowl. Water comes in and there aren't a lot of places for it to go. Never had an urge to return or even to visit. Except for the Peterson Museum...
