Italeri 250 SWB and 275 GTB. Haven't seen either one in years. -
Mazda Vision Concept

I noticed that it appears to be a 4 door, with rear suicide doors a la the RX-8. Trim that front overhang at bit and I'd be on it. This coming from a guy who owns a Mustang with a front overhang. Ahh, with my luck it would be the first $150(+) k Mazda and push it right out of the budget.. -
Oooh, I might have an issue
The Junkman replied to The Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not really sure but the inner headlamps are so big that they're like a zit on a beauty queen, the overall effect might be great but all you notice is the flaw. -
Last week, on a whim, I bought an AMT 1/43rd 1969 Mustang kit, sealed. Once I got it home I actually looked at it and...there are issues. Here's the kit listed on an Ebay auction-no connection with the seller or sale but for illustration purposes only. https://www.ebay.com/i/372094873524?chn=ps&dispItem=1 Without opening it, I already see there is a serious problem with the headlamps. The ones mounted in the grill are HUGE and the ones in the facia are severely undersized. Has anyone built this one and can offer some tips or should it remain in the pile of doom?

Has anyone ever built one of these?

Back when dinosaurs ruled the earth I was stationed in Japan for 2 years. In the same manner that Kanji, the Japanese "alphabet" makes no sense to our eyes, so English is a mystery to them. The random phrases and very "interesting" words that was printed on clothing etc would be jarring at times. It is best to consider it simply as an attempt at decor and not read anything more into it. (How many of those Asian script tattoos the young ones get really say "Sucker" when they thought is said "Peace" or "Strength" or whatever?) -
Automotive Car Books? Who Collects?

There's a lot of Christmas presents, bargain purchases, and "stumble upons" represented there. The current "Holy Grail" is Cobra Daytona Coupes by Brock/Friedman/Stauffer but $1350+ is way out of my league. Believe it or not I don't think I paid list price for any of them. Sometimes I dive into the online book sites to see what they might be worth but its hard to tell with the algorithms they use. -
What did you see on the road today?

We end up going to Ontario a least once a year (the in-laws live in and aboot Toronto) and I love the "not quite GM" variations you never see in the states. Astre, Beaumont, etc. (As an aside, in a previous life as a CHP officer a sheriff deputy called for me to verify the legitimacy of a vaguely American sedan. 1970 Beaumont, he'd never seen one.) First Lada I'd ever seen was there. I took a road trip to PEI in 2013 and in Moncton, NB I saw more newer Shelby GT500's in one morning than I ever have in the past many years. To bring this back on topic I went to a local car show on Saturday and saw this. There's a bit of a political statement involved but the restoration was nicely done. The paint job had an eggshell finish to it, oddly enough. Google "State of Jefferson" -
Automotive Car Books? Who Collects?

I don't have an answer to your question but the thread intrigued me. This is just my car book collection, not extensive but just what interests me. Yes, there is a Ford bias. The upper r/h corner is my collection of Motor Racing Replica News/Motor Racing Models mags and the bottom shelf has about 1/2 of my Vintage Motorsport mags. I'd like to clear the space but you never know what might be important in the future. The Model Cars mags are not in frame but they're around. -

GM groupthink? No one had enough moxie to step up and say "This thing is ugly with the 'arched back' shape of an angry beagle" so they thought to go along to get along. Still causes me to cringe on the rare occasion that I see one. -
Saturday: Starkey and Hutch Torino that I hope to turn into a Junie Dunlevey 1976 Lemans entrant, purchased at Michaels with coupon. Monday: Revell DE Porsche 934 that I haven't decided which livery to use. Purchased at my closest hobby/toy shop-68 miles from home. As an aside, how could I have missed the fact that the Torino is molded in red and the Porsche in orange. I'd gotten SO used to white or grey.

Chaparral car?
The Junkman replied to aurfalien's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So to put a modeling aspect on this: the lower body on the early cars was made of (I believe) fiberglass which was originally black but age transformed/changed to the dark reddish brown shown in the above photos. Would that be correct or was it always the dark brown? I've got an old AMT Chaparral C kit and 3 of the Chaparral D (two Monogram/Revell and one Fujimi-to say nothing of the E from Fisher. I don't know how that happened-I've always been a Ford guy) -
Chaparral car?

You can, in fact, buy "continuation" series of the 2E and made by Chaparral. http://www.chaparralcars.com/2e.php -
Not to denigrate others views but I don't like a single aspect of that....thing. Every automotive cliche' is present. Fins on top of fins. Sharp, blocky body topped by a smooth arching roof. Side spears on a short(ish) body. Overly complicated front and rear styling. Plus the fact that they sacrificed a BMW. Reminds me of the unlamented Excaliburs of the 70s.

Its got Peta Wilson in it. No more need be said. -
Don't know much about merchandising but just how far would "notorious" add to desirability? OTOH, a new F150 or Silverado in the current body styles....

I don't think I've seen a stock Chevy Fleetline in 20 years. They are extremely popular in the Old School Low Rider scene. -

Others will chime in but the first I believe is a 1950-51 Studebaker Champion. The canister in the rear window is (more or less) an early version of an air conditioner. The curb feeler on the front bumper is a nice touch. My grandparents always had them in the early 60s. -
Racer's Wedge
The Junkman replied to johnbuzzed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Purely as a load bearing question in the 1 to 1 world your single wheel/single axle would be in excess of the allowable load bearing capacity. I've seen commercial trailers with single wheel axles but they were limited to high bulk/low weight loads. The most common configuration I've seen your set up utilize is on travel trailers/boat trailers, neither are carrying particularly heavy loads. But I'm just thinking of reality. -
Some Cool Thunderbird Drawings
The Junkman replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like a lot of the ideas but not the front end/hood arrangement. The power bulge makes the front look heavy compared to the sleekness of the rear half and the sharpness of the headlight treatment is jarring alongside the overdone hood. Lower the power bulge to make it less prominent and french the headlamps. But when I win the lottery, the idea of a modern iteration of the classic T-Bird makes me smile. -
Well, poo.

Has Revell released an informational poster showing ALL its projected releases, not just autos? Just curious for other areas of interest. (heresy, I know)

Mustang Mach One GT-R
The Junkman replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a Mustang owner (I've had 3 pass through, including the one I've got now) I'm just a "meh". Its not a Mustang, its clown clothes on a GT-R. Of course, I'm probably the only one in America (and Canada, Happy Canada Day!) who really is underwhelmed by "Eleanor". Overdone and overblown, the both of them. Now, get off of my lawn. -
