What did you see on the road today?
The Junkman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Took a drive toward the Sonoma (County) coast area north of SF yesterday. The rich guys auto club got there ahead of me. Saw a Ferrari California Berlinetta, immediately followed by a Mclaren 570. Within a minute a Ferrari 360 then a 308 (or variation). Lastly a nicely used but not abused Dino 246. All the others impressed me but the Dino warmed my heart. Naturally except for the Mclaren (orange) all the others were Resale Red. -
Oh, I've no doubt that it represents what it is. Its just that the legend and accomplishments were made by the 289 in its various body configurations and THAT'S what I'd like to be able to model. Besides, what 50+ year old molding isn't prime for a re-do?
-
Honestly I knew I was kidding and I thought you were too. Please don't let it bother you. Sarcasm is what I revert to when wit fails me. Completely off topic: are you related to Larry Milberry who authored a fantastic book on Canadair Sabres a few years back?
-
Now if they would just massage the Cobra body a bit (USRRC/FIA) or better yet spring for a new mold. The original/current is of 1963 vintage. Even the engine is a Ford 260 rather than a proper 289.
-
Well, I didn't mention a Confederate flag sticker in the back window. Thought of it but didn't mention it.
-
Will it include a driver with a mullet and no t-shirt, 8-track with "Freebird" cassette, chewing tobacco decal for the rear bumper, and a color mis-matched door?

This resin body; is it the All American Models one? If so, I've got an example. I think it was an afterthought purchase at NNL West a couple of years ago. Based on the discussion, I think I'll camouflage the Revell kit in my CHP colors and build the AAM bone stock. I did note the AAM seems slightly longer than the Revell. Would it be 1/24 scale?
-
I think you've got it. It always did look OK to me, its just that I vaguely recall someone mentioned trimming the opening for appearance sake. Far better than cutting the top off and re-proportioning the entire thing, which I recall some claimed was the only solution. Maybe I should have just asked for hints on assembly. I've still got to source a little better radio head and gun rack. Probably scratch those.

Ellen uhh, the pic is my 1 to 1 Mustang that is sitting about 25 feet from me. Now I drove the one replicated in the kit on a "professional basis". That's the one I'm talking about. As an aside: the blue one is MUCH more comfortable, faster (scary faster but generations better handling), and has better seats along with satellite radio, AM/FM and voice activated systems. The black and white one had a radio but only one channel at a time and the entertainment value was limited. On the upside I could speak into it and talk to other people. Sirius/XM really doesn't allow for two way conversations.

It took me this long to finally get one, no reason just that it took this long. I recall some pages and pages of back and forth about the roof proportions. I'm not that particular but I recall shaving a little of the window opening seemed to solve or tone down the appearance issues. Are there any hints/tips I should be aware of. It (or at least the first one) is going to be a CHP car.

Ferrari 250 GTO - Fujimi or Revell Germany?
The Junkman replied to Kmb0319's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I've always subscribed to the theory that since each GTO body was fundamentally hand formed (restorers have found substantial differences between right and left sides of the same car) each kit can stand on its own. Well, except for the Aurora/Monogram conglomeration . Build what you have, the way you want and let others prove it wrong. Then ignore them. -
I don't disagree but I'm of the opinion that its a test shot. Better to wait for the real kit and then see where the discussion goes.

Round 2 March 2017 Product Spotlight
The Junkman replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
No, it all ended 4 years ago. US Govt lost money on auto company bailout (but saved jobs) and made money on the overall economic bailout (TARP, etc). Overall, it made a profit. To keep this on topic: at what point can we expect R2 to release some (any?) new products? I've liked Revell's choices for new releases and done my part to keep them encouraged. -
scale motorsport Shelby Daytona coupe
The Junkman replied to montanaphil's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
With all the expressions of disappointment, you'd almost think there would be a market for an injected molded Cobra Daytona Coupe. I wonder if same could be said for an up to date (as in a mold newer than 1963) 289 Cobra roadster (standard, FIA, USRRC). Maybe a bit of market research is in order? -
What do you drive?
The Junkman replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Taken at Lake Tenaya, east end of Yosemite. On the 20th I'll have had it for 4 years and bumping up on 60K miles. Average 22mpg and have gotten as high as 29 (not regularly-420 horses have to breathe once in a while.) -

Ghost Kits - Shown But Never Released

In that same vein Academy announced a Daytona Coupe just a few years ago-so far bupkus. Maybe they can call it "American Racing Coupe" or some such. http://www.rocketfin.com/blog/index.cfm/2010/2/1/Cobra-Daytona-Model-Kits -

Italeri 2017 releases
The Junkman replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Italeri has a 275 GTB, a 365 GTB/4 Daytona, a 250 SWB, 365 GTB Daytona etc, etc in their mold library and these are what they come out with? I'm not a Tifosi by any means but if you're going to reissue, I listed a bunch that would probably cause more buzz. But my opinion is worth what Italeri paid for it. -
Look closely at the Papal Guard illustration. Something about the Pope.....may be trying to allude to something. Am pretty stoked about the 934 kits (if we ever see them on this side of the Atlantic), the Panamera, the DB5, but also new tool PT Boat!!!-don't stop there we need a Higgins 78ft-and a Revell priced P-51 Mustang. Seeing a lot of hopeful signs there.

I bought this one back in the day. Basically just for the decals to put on the stock Camaro kit as there was no aftermarket to speak of for police cars. (No connection to the buyer-for illustration purposes only). A fairly terrible rendition of the Camaro. Still have it though. http://tinyurl.com/z2rw8gw

I, for one appreciate a first person build report. In fact I prefer multiple build reports as I live in a town without a hobby shop and no local source of kits/paints except a Michaels and have no one to bounce impressions off. Camaros aren't a thing with me (check signature) but solutions are. As long as everyone acknowledges that everyone's opinion is equally valid and everyone's experience is theirs alone, I'm happy. (Psssst, Tim. Next time you talk with R2, mention two little words-289 Cobra. Maybe add FIA/USRRC to the conversation. I don't even want to know whom you talked to. Let's keep this between us, OK?)
