  1. http://www.amazon.com/Fifty-Years-Mustangs-History-Scale/dp/1495245004/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1434410663&sr=1-1&keywords=50+years+of+mustangs I talked SWMBO into letting me self-select my Father's Day present and this was at the top of the list. The good: its not just a picture book. Organized by generations of Mustangs, it mentions a lot of kits but focuses on the most common/popular ones. It has build articles with many tips and things to look out for. It addresses some of the issues brought up by the car model Illuminati ('90 LX roof height, etc) and offers solutions. Part idea book, part reference/research, part build articles it is a very nice overview of the models you most likely will have in your collection. Lavishly illustrated and all in color. The bad: some of the photos appear slightly pixilated. And its new/privately printed so the only price is the only price $29.99. That's it At that it still is a valuable book for your collection. Admins: if this is in the wrong forum, please move.
  2. I would SO buy that Daytona Coupe. I only have a Gunze kit and the next steps up costs $180 (HRM) and $300+ (S27). But as much as I'd love that why we don't have an up to date, new tool 289 Cobra (FIA/SCCA/street) is one of the mysteries of the ages. And based on an original, not a freaking kit car (shame is on you, Fujimi).
  3. This isn't helping. Your's came out very well but I've been torn between replicating Steve McQueen's stock SS or going full boat with it toward a racing version to pair with a resin Fisher Models D Type I managed to aquire. Maybe I'll settle on just finishing a model. Thanks for the heads up regarding the tires.
  4. FYI: there's some "in action" shots at the bottom of this page. http://www.drivelineac.com/gm_crv_amt_piranha/index.htm
  5. Back at 'cha. I've been looking at the possibility of getting 2005 to 2009 at a reasonable price. But someone else in the house gives me the "stink eye" if she sees me looking on the 'net. I'll just use and enjoy what I've got.
  6. Not seeing that as much of a problem at this point. I've got the 2015 Mustang kit pretty much because its got the wheels I need for my 2013 GT. I will wait for a review or two though.
  7. Truly I hadn't. I figured since they already were out there (at least '69 vintage) the effort would be a duplicate. I've never tried something like that. I do wish they came out in orange though. In related news I found a Model Car Garage photo etch with (fairly) late model Mustang logos including 5.0 for the fenders. And of course very shortly after I bought a set off of Ebay, I found that Revell has just released a 2014 Mustang GT kit with the 5.0 logos and the proper Coyote engine. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXERMD Looks like one more kit to buy.
  8. Thanks, I looked at the KA kits and all they have are for the various Revell Shelby Mustangs. No GT, Boss 302, and no 5.0. The search goes on.
  9. Bump (because I've never "bumped" a thread before-and I never got an answer to either question.)
  10. Another rule of thumb: If your reference shows it identified as a "Torino Cobra" it had the 427. If Talladega is mentioned it had the 429. I think both are options in the kit. Same body-differing engines. The first race with the 429 was the Atlanta 500 3/30/69.
  11. Allllllmost but not quite. Dan Gurney was over a lap ahead in the 1966 Sebring 12 hour race when his engine died on the last lap. He was DQ for pushing it on the course. http://www.sportscardigest.com/1966-12-hours-of-sebring-race-profile/ Lloyd Ruby and Ken Miles took Daytona that year. http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/Daytona-1966-02-06.html Having said that, that scheme and that driver are both among my favorites of that era.
  12. Sooooo could one take the H&M Coyote, get a slot car body of a Ford Mk IV and come out with a shelf model of the Mk IV? Of course the wheels would be a dickens of a thing to source.
  13. Oh, I think thats a direction Mobius should be REAL careful about. I am also on a board with a guy who was a player in a company called 21st Century Toys who put out pre-painted 1:18 and 1:32 scale fighter planes/kits. Great reviews. Walmart then froze them out when they tried expanding to other store chains (about 2007). Just about killed the company. Dealing with WM is truly like making a deal with the devil.
  14. The last one I've seen in the flesh (metal) was about 8-9 years ago. The guy had dropped a Chevy 350 in it. Well, it DID move out of its way. And I once saw two at Sears Point in the summer of 1981 beat an RX-7 back when the RX was a thing. Convoluted history-was it a VW, an Audi, or a Porsche?
  15. Arii, Hasegawa, and Fujimi have all done kits. 1/24 and 1/16
  16. Mervyns. And now they are the new owners of the Safeway chain of grocery stores. Oyy and Oyy.
  17. Or a capital investment firm thinks it knows how to build cars-Cerberus Capital Management and Chrysler. Oyyy
  18. During a gap in games that I wanted to watch today, my wife wanted to visit a local art tour. This is a pretty rural, relatively (esp. for Calif) low income area unless you're growing some "alternate crops". Anyway, I've got to keep up deposits in the "Good Husband Brownie Point Bank". Hit a couple of places, nothing interesting. The last place (the owner's wife has a separate studio for stained glass art) I spy in the garage a 2015 Corvette-7k miles in 4 months. First I've seen in its nest. Next to that-a late model CTS-V. In front of the Caddy, a Crossley Formula Ford and next to the Crossley, an immaculate 66 Mustang Fastback. I start talking with the husband and he allows that he has a F Production MGB and a Bugeye but the Sprite's in the shop and the MGB is in the trailer about to go out really soon for another run. It still has the dirt from Indy deposited in the wheel wells where he got to run it in a once in a life time experience. The only other car with any bug splatters was the Caddy-apparently the wife's car. He also has a brand new F-150 for use as a tow vehicle. I'm just not doing something right with my life.
  19. I bought the 2010 and 2013 Revell Mustang kits and am going to duplicate my 2013 GT (check signature for photo). Cobbling those together leaves me with a good basis for a 2012 Boss 302. Just like this: One problem: no one is doing late model Mustang stripe sets (are you listening K Marks? An orange stripe set would be awesome for a Laguna Edition) So, I've got several 1969 edition sets-Last Detail, Fred Cady-with the correct "C" stripe. Would they work or should I wait. A second question: anyone got a line on "5.0" logos/badges for the front fenders? Detail master Mustang set has exactly one and it looks too big for the fenders. Along with the fact I'd have to buy two DM sets.
  20. How many '60s-'70s TV shows substituted a Checker when they needed a Soviet limo or somesuch. Virtually defined "utilitarian".
  21. I found my last photo: ]
  22. We had our local car show today with a meet-n-greet last night. Of all the cars I saw this one last night caught my attention more than the buffed and polished ones. Oxidized 392ci hemi, rust and corrosion and the gas tank was a beer keg. Am I a rat rodder after all?
  23. The blue one at least appears to be a Lola GT, a stepping stone on the way to the GT40. For that I'm prepared to forgive it. While on the subject, note the tail lamps of the majority of GT40s. Note a certain similarity to the tail lamps of a distinctive rear engine, air cooled, GM product?
  24. Front end has a bit of the Austin-Healey 3000 to it but you would have to pull back/lay down the grill somewhat.
