  1. And here's a source for some alternative decals https://www.starfighter-decals.com/2406-texas-roadrunners-2d-66amp67-sebring24062666767.html
  2. I used to pay attention up until the 1990s when there was body shapes that at least resembled what was on the road. But after they shafted Bill Simpson in the wake of Earnhardt's death I really lost interest. Then they went to a silhouette series where every car was the same, differentiated only by stickers on the front and rear, and they tried to follow the NBA model making the players become the product. Along with that they leaned on the drivers so much that generic and vanilla became the order of the day. Boring, not interesting, blah. Now, if I watch any part of a race, I haven't watched an entire race in better than 8-9 years, its the first 20 laps and the last 20 laps. Sad because I could watch V8 Supercars all day long.
  3. PS: got mine in today's mail on the Left Coast. No drop in quality. Even had NNL West coverage which was the last fun thing I went to before the blanket dropped down.
  4. Something to look forward to. FSM is....disappointing.
  5. Just detritus of my youth and in no particular order: 1961 Jaguar XKE BRG over tan leather 1963-64 Aston Martin DB-5 California Sage or Silver Birch (the Bond tie-in and its just my favorite body style) 1968 Mustang GT Fastback 390ci (Highland Green of course) 1968/69 Ford Torino Fastback Candy Apple Red or Presidential Blue 1975 Porsche 911 Turbo in white 2016 Shelby GT350 white with blue stripes 2020 Ford F150 with towing package (trying to convince SWMBO to get a luxo travel trailer and it would be easier if we already had the tow vehicle) Extra credit: early 2000s Nissan Skyline GT-R in silver (body proportions, performance, reputation)
  6. For some reason the cell phone camera didn't capture the image. 1971 Mercury Montego MX 2dr very dark grey in that cursed satin finish. Literally, I haven't seen a Montego of this vintage in at least 30 years.
  7. You're not fooling anybody. You like it for the way people look up, see that CV maw in their mirrors and move out of the way for you. ?
  8. Thanks for the compliment but not a Shelby. Just a stock 2013 GT. SWMBO still thinks of it as a toy, and was decidedly unimpressed when I mentioned taking it to Shelby in LV to have it "massaged". Esp when the money was mentioned.
  9. Exiting US 101 in Windsor CA. You can go a long time and not see an Lamborghini Aventador in the wild. Photo doesn't do the paint color justice.
  10. How about an up to date F150 or Silverado. Hasn't been an F150 kit since 1998 excepting the Raptor snap kit. Most popular vehicle in sales for year after year. I'd buy several over another Mustang, and I love Mustangs.
  11. Let's bring Dr Malcomb into the conversation. Doctor?
  12. Glad you caught one free and in the wild. They don't appear to have a sterling reputation for reliability-from what I've read.
  13. I guess that's why drag strips aren't banked.
  14. Well, get on it then.
  15. Not a MOPAR guy but I really like that the RR's owner stayed with the original theme of the car-lower level content and focused on performance. Poverty hubcaps and wheels (no fancy aftermarket-not that there's anything wrong with that), no scooper dooper hood-just a power bulge. Can't see inside but I'd like to think he/she had front bench seats too. Very clean.
  16. Please excuse me if I saw the subject line and thought it was about an honest, up to date 289 Cobra kit. Silly me.
  17. It has become clear that intelligence and wealth are not interconnected among certain types. Back on topic: one of the employees at my local hardware store is driving a car I've not seen in years, a Chevy Vega. Its a bit rough but still mobile. Next time I go I'll try to grab a picture.
  18. Related, my mind is blown at the concept of cars-at speed-on the 405. In my previous life I-405 was my "local neighborhood street". Speeding was anything above 35 mph. Guess things may have changed.
  19. I paid $2222 for a near new standard Beetle in 1973 from a dealer in Portsmouth, NH. Shoulda held onto it? (Ahhh, no. ?)
  20. I talked with some guys who drove the Dodge Aspen sedans in '77-78. Had a 360 c.i. V-8 and they had nothing but platitudes. Then this...abomination. We also tried Ford Fairmonts with 302 V-8s (completely out of breath at 95 and the most cheezy/plastic/cheap interior) and 79 Camaros which weren't all that bad except every last one spun their bearings at least once. Autos of the 1970s-be glad you missed them.
  21. Maybe some potential with a model. The 1-to-1: no. Smog strangled 318 c.i., light bar, several hundred lbs of extra dead weight-pretty much everything behind the passenger seat. Max speed, hurricane tailwind aided, downhill=75mph. Sergeants had to give direct orders for them to be taken on patrol. Can confirm. I'd build one just so I could blow it up.
  22. Sorry, I was a Squadron Shop kinda guy.
  23. Separate, but related: I recall reading an article in the mid-late '70s (Motor Trend-Car & Driver? One of the "mens" magazines like True or Saga?) that cops assigned to traffic enforcement in Hawaii got re-imbursed for use of their private cars. A number of them had Gran Prix's and Monte Carlos with Corvette engines installed at a dealer in Portland, OR and shipped over. So there was a whole flock of unmarked traffic car with nothing outward but a little blue bubble light.
  24. Waiting to see my first. I agree about the price jacking but honestly, did anyone expect anything else? I recall the 2005 Mustang refresh when I went in to look it over. The salesman offered it to me for only $5K over sticker-for a V-6. Hard pass. I'll have to see it in the flesh (carbon, fiberglas?) but it greatly resembles any of a number of rear engine sports cars. Not that that's a bad thing.
