  1. I got several of those back a few years ago. It looks like a good base for the 1965 early season cars (Daytona, Sebring). By May (Reims) the cars had changed and by Lemans they were almost completely different. Replace the wheels with Halibrands, look critically at the engine/transaxle and there's a good shelf model. Can't speak to fit and finish. Pictures from that era are vital.
  2. Related: has the racing version of the Revell Ford GT hit these shores anywhere?
  3. Hybrid tech has come a long way and isn't much of a sacrifice in performance, as proven by the various high end hybrid cars on the road. I think we're at about the same place, aircraft enginewise, as we were at the end of WWII. The epitome of piston engine development but soon to be supplanted by jets. If we ever reach the point of getting the same range on a charge as a tank of gas and followed by an equivalent time to refuel/recharge only then will the IC engine be in danger. I live in a rural/small town area. 65 miles to the next city of any real size. The idea of spending an hour to drive there followed by 4-5 hours of recharge time so that I can go home is, and will remain, a non-starter with me.
  4. Did anyone look under the billboard? Good news is that it looks as if it was mainly a framework that held the banner. Metal-on-metal crime. I'm surprised this didn't get more publicity at the time.
  5. I spent my first 10 years within earshot of LAX. I recall that if it rained for 3 days in a row they closed the local schools. You have to recall that primarily the LA Basin is just that: a bowl. Water comes in and there aren't a lot of places for it to go. Never had an urge to return or even to visit. Except for the Peterson Museum...
  6. Case in point: Fisher Models. I've got a FEW of the ones he carried but never pulled the trigger on the Cunningham, Chaparral 2F, long tailed Ferrari 512. There appears to have been a successful crowdfund to help Paul Fisher carry on but who knows at this point.
  7. In a previous life I provided traffic control for numerous movies/commercials. Very common for logos to be covered, even to the extent of covering "Ford" and "Dodge" logos on hubcaps.
  8. Monogram Dale Jarrett Mac Tools Thunderbird I won as a door prize at NLL West a couple of years ago. Under card race series, unknown race results, driver I only paid attention in passing. At best I'll part it out. Not sure even of that.
  9. Oregon plates-probably suffering from sunstroke.
  10. Inspired by this? https://www.carthrottle.com/post/the-300sl-powered-blue-wonder/ (Ooops, nevermind. Someone else with a quirky knowledge of old transporters beat me to it.)
  11. I'm really going to keep an eye on Atlantis. They seem to know their market. This flyer (warning: not car related) has every appearance of the classic John Steel boxtops from the classic Revell era. https://www.atlantis-models.com/pressreleases/H369USSIowa.pdf
  12. Ah, dag nabbit.
  13. Is it impolite to mention that a model of any current pickup is missing. There's a Raptor snap kit and after that you have to go to the 1999 (?) Silverado, the Meng F350 and the 1997 F150. And what's the most recent Ram Pickup, the 1995 (or so) Revell show truck w/Viper engine? Pickups are the largest selling vehicles in the US but are unrepresented. And let's not talk about Explorers, Tahoes, etc.
  14. There is one resin option for a stock hood by Missing Link. (No connection to seller) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Resin-25-scale-1968-70-Pontiac-GTO-hood-w-underside-detail-from-Missing-Link/352474531990?hash=item52111e8896:g:YWUAAOSwTmJatSJP I purchased one and standing alone it looks good. My kit is buried in the stash so I haven't test fitted it.
  15. FYI: there are two Porsche 904 kits that have been released under the Revell/Monogram nameplate in 1/24 and 1/25 scale. The 1/24 kit which is basically a slot car body/curbside. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/176383-monogram-pc127-porsche-904 The 1/25th kit which (I believe) originally was the old Aurora kit and has the engine/interior etc. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/176395-monogram-2954-porsche-904 I've got both but, naturally, I haven't built either.
  16. No cup holders! This deal if OFF!
  17. +1 on the Petersen. I went there in January and they had a magnificent display of low riders next to a gallery of vintage Bugattis, while at the same time there was about $100 million in Ferrari race cars on the other side of the 2nd floor from very famous movie cars. And to top it all, a 1 to 1 Lightning McQueen. AND about 75 feet away was Steve McQueen's Jaguar XK-SS. I believe there will be a display of Porsche racing cars when you're in "The Southland".
  18. Breadvan! http://mycarquest.com/2016/04/ferrari-250-breadvan-joke-went-far.html
  19. Operating on the theory that you can't have too much info: https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/AM14/Amelia-Island/lots/r103-1965-shelby-mustang-gt350-r/181814
  20. FYI: the decal stripes in that kit are an dull blue/grey and not even close to the Guardsman Blue original color. They might be an aid in paint masking though. Your muse was used to win the 1965 SCCA B Production title, not always with the #3. Try Googling GT350 5R213 for more photos.
  21. There is a need for an aftermarket decal set and I've heard of at least one but it appears to be "vaporware". Nonetheless, there is this alternative with an actual racing history. http://www.v-r-m.com/vrm-003---mustang-gt350r.html and a few pictures from the race: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/44191640076742499/?lp=true
  22. I admit a preference to old school design But I'll have a weakness for Champion Porsche
  23. This is owned by a 78 year old guy I used to work with. He just got it out of the shop. You can almost see it but the bed is equipped with a custom made wooden truck box and the bed is wood lined. Hard to tell but its actually a deep metallic purple with blue and pink pinstripes. You might note a familiar car in the background. (look at the bottom of the page)
  24. Always wore an open collared polyester shirt with a vaguely suggestive gold pendant on a chain. Called it his "Italian Good Luck Charm". Did one experience the '70s or just survive them?
  25. The top one reminds me of this classic show.
