I noticed that first thing, & I haven't even checked out the fotki site yet, the floor pan has the correct wheel housings at least on the floor part, that & the bench seat should be added as an option for the hardtop. Oh & the dog dish caps also.

Real or Model #173 FINISHED!
horsepower replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
about time to get one really wrong, so I'm gonna say this one has that model look to me, so model it is. -
If they could build this kit that long ago with the folding top, why can't we get the top to fold on the SSR truck, or any of the Mercedes kits in a modern kit?

now this might even be more fun than the Falcon Hardtop!

New Hot Rod Falcon from Trumpeter

I think that you have that backwards, it's quite obvious that he's taking of the little AFB set up, & installing the much better Weber set up ala the Cobra kit that Ford offered back then, (the deep cast aluminum pan, & the four Weber carbs, & manifold. -

On your putty question, use a two part polyester type putty, like Eurosoft finish glaze, or "Icing" (this is available in smaller amounts, check with your local bodyshop supplier) or just to rough in the body work, just use plain old "Bondo" body filler, you can get this in a quart size at your local Walmart for a very reasonable price. None of these will shrink with age, and you can primer over them & use the other putties that were mentioned, do not confuse the two part (filler & hardener) Bondo with the lacquer based spot putty that are both available at Walmart. -
I have to like the Red & Black one, even though both are great builds.

depends on what size rollbars you're building, the ones that are in the typical stock car, are 1 3/4 in. in diameter in full size, & would be .080 size rod or tubing roughly, (I'd recommend rod, easier to bend without kinking) the .062/1/16 in. size is for 1 1/2 diam. bars in full size. hope this helps, Sprints & older supermodifieds would use the .062 rod.

Questions about Spaz-Stix Chrome paint
horsepower replied to horsepower's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the answers, I'm still a little confused, the bottle I picked up said to top coat it in their super clear, that also came in about a 1oz. size bottle, are we seeing the same paint? Or is the one your using a spray can? -
The Cars of Rock 'n' Roll and Country Music
horsepower replied to CorvairJim's topic in Community Builds
"The Ride" was originally done by David Allan Coe, it is a country song that was a pseudo tale about Hank Williams Sr. -
Thanks fro the answers, I know I'll get, I was at a local Hobby shop, & in the paint aisle I finally came across some of the spaz stix chrome paint, now I'm Thoroughly confused, it has nothing on the directions about a base coat, & says to top coat in clear. Is this just for use on the R/C car bodies, or will it work on styrene, the guy behind the counter didn't know (it is mainly an R/C shop, A Main Hobbies) so we will have to forgive his ignorance on any other hobby than what he's into. So drop me a note, & let me know I didn't want to spend $22, for the chrome & clear, & find out the hard way that it won't work on plastic kits.

1/24 Revell '70 Plymouth Superbird
horsepower replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
You have to remember, this was originally done as a model of Richard Pettys Roadrunner, that showed up at the track with a vinyl roof to throw the inspectors off, was it really the roof, or something else that was out of kilter? Only the King & his court know for sure. -
upon closer inspection, I have to say that it's real, those aren't sprue connections on the rear wheel, its a wheel weight to balance the tires, definitely real.

The Hot Rod pieces, & the other fender set were from the "Gangbusters" '33 Panel, & the release of the Race only version of the cabriolet it had headers that went through the fenders, about where spares were supposed to go. I still have two of those releases, two of the Gangbusters kit, & four or five of the Cabriolets, one is the second edition, that was the first issue of it without the Panel, & was a Budd Anderson edition with tips on how to make a street rod version.

1/8 Scale Offy Midget
horsepower replied to Old Sprinter's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
The Red car looks almost like the Triguerro Brothers car out of Madera, more like an old San Jose car than a West Capital Speedway type (San Jose was a lightning quick 1/4 mile high banked asphalt track it bit the developers ax in the late 70s). -
Both of these kits were based on '70s NASCAR kits one was a Buddy Baker number 71, IIRC it was molded in red, & the well remembered later '71-'74 Richard Petty version that was molded in clear, I believe this kit was issued with decals to make it a Baker/Bobby Isaac K&K Insurance number 71 also, looking with anticipation for these releases, but will pass on the "Street" version.

I would use the stock tri-power 'Vette air cleaner, the triangle shaped one. -
The valve covers on these engines were black with brushed fins (just got back from the garage after checking) it isn't a smooth finish, but not a actual wrinkle finis either. all but one of the original engines I've seen were black, the odd ball could have been a dealer replacement, it was the old Ford blue with a black head like the 2.0s were. the only gray engines I've seen were in Mustangs,Fairmont/Granadas, & Ranger pick-ups. Also, mine came with a Ford blue dist cap, orange plug ends, & gray ignition wires, with black ends on the distributor ends.

They use a piece of titanium to make the shower of sparks.

I think this is coming along very nicely, killer job! Just for thought, next time you do a color changing paint like the Kameleons, like you did on the top. Instead of using a straight metallic for a second color use a different shade of the "flip flop" paint, in this case I think the green to silver would have been a great choice.

FULL BUILD REVIEW: 1/12 Revell Shelby Mustang GT500
horsepower replied to David Thibodeau's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I think that Revell did this one right, those that one a super detailed kit will build it "their" way, & those that don't or can't will love it as is. We all know that if they had put in all of the super details, that there would be a problem somewhere either in the way the hinges were done, or with the evil warp monster getting to the main shell etc. But this way it's out there for all of us to love & build, & I do believe that a lot more will get finished in this mode. -
So how do we get in touch with this "Mace" that he mentions in the facebook account about the "scratch & dent" sale items? Thanks ahead of time for all of the great answers I know I will receive. Del

Real or Model #171 FINISHED!
horsepower replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Real! Not only the newspaper in the blower scoop, but the mold lines on the tires tend to point toward it being a model. -
you do know that Revell will send you an extra set of decals if you request them?

Real or Model #170 FINISHED!
horsepower replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Wow! I could use this thing to "play" on my property, I've got some land to level, & this would be just the ticket, not only that but my grandson would just love it! He has so much fun with the riding lawn mower when we mow the fields, this would put him over the top (he's 3 1/2)
