Not even close
Brett Barrow replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This one is.... well, it's not hideous. Not by much, though, it's pretty ugly. I think the Roush P-51 (Ford) Mustang is the only one to get it right, because the airplane cues are very subtle. -

I remember seeing a B-17 with whitewalls somewhere, but I cant find it. -
Moebius 1965 Plymouth Satellite news
Brett Barrow replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The Johan roof is way worse to me, it's too flat. I think the Moebius roof is much closer to reality. Model photos from Tim Boyd's review at http://public.fotki.com/funman1712/first-look-at-all-n/new-moebius-65-plym/new-moebius-65-plym/ -
Not an eclipse, the last solar eclipse was March 20th, DSCOVR was still travelling at that point (launched in Feb, took 100 days to reach L1) it took that photo sometime in July. Even during an eclipse I'm not sure that DSCOVR will see it as a transit of the moon as it's position varies (it actually orbits L1). DSCOVR should see around 2 lunar transits a year.

Need ideas...
Brett Barrow replied to 440 Magnum's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Look around this for a few minutes/hours/days.... http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_car_photos/beautiful_custom_cars/watson_custom_cars/ -
For folks that don't know, it's taken from DSCOVR, a new satellite at the L1 Lagrange point approx. 1,000,000 from the Earth between the Earth and Sun where it can continuously observe the sunlit side of the Earth.

But if it's just going to be the old kit rehashed why are they scanning it?!?!?

1/25 Revell '29 Model A Roadster 2'n'1
Brett Barrow replied to mrknowetall's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The normal way Revell does it these days - RPP (Revell Preferred Partners) should get them sometime around the 20th, regular distribution around the end of the month. -
Need help identifying wheels

Bored at work today, did a quick snap together of this kit. It's not bad. I like the silver for the wheels, but it doesn't work as we'll for the headlights. Wish they were chrome. Can't wait for the more detailed kits to show up, I know they're doing the pre-paint hope they do a full-detail normal kit as well. Body is matte, not textured, but just dull. Doesn't have that typical snap kit shine.

Painting the vector wheels
Brett Barrow replied to Ben's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Spray the dark grey/black, then silver Sharpie for the spokes and rim. Or, alternatively, spray the silver with a lacquer then spray the dark gray with an enamel and remove the dark gray from the spokes with thinner. -
Yeller.

General Lee that I would like to build
Brett Barrow replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some Generals had the vinyl top trim, especially early ones. IIRC the "hero" car always had it, so sanding the texture off the 69 isn't as hard as it would be if you had to take off the trim. The Fireball Vectors might be a little big, as they are 24th scale. The ones from the General Lee glue kit aren't too bad. You can also find decent Vectors in the AMT Farrah' s Foxy Vette/Eckler' s Corvette and their offspring reissues. Slixx is doing a new GL decal sheet that looks like it'll be good. You'll have to scratch up a decent push bar, there were several variations over the run of the show. -
Stevens isn't doing exclusive reissues any more. Anything they list will be available from Round 2, they might just be the only ones showing them right now, but they are normal Round 2 reissues. Source: I worked for Stevens for 14 years.

Revell new releases update, 7/22/2015
Brett Barrow replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The S&H Torino is already our #2 best seller (behind the Moebius Ford P/Us) solely on preorders. Plenty of folks remember the show. -
It'll be under the Lindberg label, just like the last umpteen versions of the L700. http://round2models.com/models/lindberg/dodge-l700-shell-tanke I do see a Shell Tanker under the AMT lable, too, #AMT918. If I had to guess on that one, I'd say it's the Texaco Tanker with new decals, but I don't know for sure. I can guarantee it's not new tooling, though.

archive.org FTW! I use it often when I run into a broken link. https://web.archive.org/web/20120705014708/http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=boardrules
