Renwal Models

Yep, my bad, I misread the post, I thought he meant the engine. -
I grew up in Martinsville, VA within earshot of the track. It was hard not to. NASCAR kits were everywhere, chain stores, mom & pop stores, Flea markets, etc, and then twice a year the race came to town and there were vendors selling all sorts of stuff. Our LHS had reams of decals. Was a fun childhood.

I cut my teeth on NASCAR kits growing up, I just might just have to get one of these and strip, paint and decal one. I like the idea of not having an engine to slow down a build, I used to glue my hoods shut half the time anyway. I'm certainly no Clay Kemp. Just hope the wheel/tire package looks good.

One or two a year? I'll sell one or two EVERY Saturday between Black Friday and Christmas. I'm just in the shop on Saturdays now, but I'm sure they sell a few more during the week. $20 in 1965 is around $150 in today's money, I'm sure it was a shocker back then. It sells for about half that now. I remember one Christmas when Revell was going through ownership/management upheaval and we couldn't get any. Folks were bummed! -

One of the big model train companies' main business was those Styrofoam coolers you get at the gas station. Whoever made the Styrofoam mountains and tunnels for trains, Life-Like I'm pretty sure. -
Ok, I just assumed they were just new wheels and hoods on the prepaint kits. Hopefully they're on the full detail chassis and come with stock parts. If so then they might as well drop the idea of the unpainted prepaint kits. It's possible that the wheels are just photoshopped in and that why they look so wonky, but I'm not holding my breath.

I actually like the 2 Foose treatments. Those other 2 prepaints? Blegh...

I'm 99.99% sure Revell is working on a F&F Dom's Charger in plastic. Whether it will be based on the 68-69 plastic kit tooling or the F&F die cast tooling, I don't know. And no idea if it will be buildable as a stock 70 R/T, the movie car lacks the door scoops and has a custom grille among other changes. The big honking blower sticking out of the hood for one.

Noch makes these for doing static grass (static electricity - that's where it gets it's name from) on model railroad layouts. There might be others, too. Might not be too good for cars as it tend to make the fibers stand straight up, which makes for more realistic grass, but not so much for carpet... -
I meant that the GT will be the new one that just debuted earlier this year as opposed to the Ford GT from a few years back. Polar Lights and Jada already made that one. But, hey, I didn't think they'd do the same Crown Vic police car that Lindberg did, so what do I know?
-
So are these the same wheels that would come with the '40 coupe kit, or are their some differences with the SD kit?
-
I like the red wheels, too, but if you're going for that particular time period, the chrome wheels are the way to go.

They were bagged kits found in AccMin's warehouse and were sold during the sheriff's sale after they ceased operation. Revell just had to make the paper goods - box, instructions, decals, etc. As for the molds, I've been told they are at the same facility in Korea where they were last made, the same facility Academy uses, but that this doesn't mean Academy owns them or has any plans to reissue them. I don't believe Academy actually physically owns any of the AccMin molds, they simply own the name and trademark and licence the tooling from the molding facility.

B-17 was just reissued with better decals and vintage-style box. Shouldn't be hard to find. Now as for the definition of "cheap" I don't know, but they at least are back in circulation. Maybe they'll wind up at Hobby Lobby or the chains. http://www.megahobby.com/b-17gflyingfortressnosearteditionaircraft164lindberg.aspx -
How bout $200+ snappers? Check out Bandai's sci-fi kits. With today's design and molding technology there's no good reason why every kit shouldn't be a snap kit.
-
Hmmm... a few of us have been trying to convince them to do a Suburban on that 64-66 platform. Don't know if a reissue is a good sign or a bad sign for that coming true. I hope the Camaro has the hidden headlight grille. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Snap GT will be the new one. Judging by the stock number (85-1987) it's what they now call a "Level 2" snap kit, not the Level 1 Build N Play type. The old-style snap kits with clear headlights and more detail.

Yep. Even Tamiya has duds.

Some Lindberg kits are vintage 1960's kits, others are tooling they picked up from others along the way (Pyro, Life-Like, even AMT's 1934 Ford closed-cab pickup), some were 1990's tooling from the George Toteff "resurrection" of the Lindberg brand (the 64 Dodge & Plymouth, 53 Ford, 61 Impala, et al), and still newer are a few Craft House/J Lloyd-era kits from the early 2000's (Dodge Monster Trucks, Dodge Charger, Crown Vic police car, et al) . It's always best to ask about a kit in particular.
