What's Coming in 2016?
Brett Barrow replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Round2 was planning on do it (would have been kit # AMT-815) but it was cancelled for some reason. -

What's Coming in 2016?
Brett Barrow replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I kind of want to see a full-detail C7 Vette, but the "craftsman" pre-paint is pretty nice (im fondling one as I type ) and between it and the snapper would probably satisfy 99% of the market if or when they do an unpainted-in-white kit with decals. -
DIY Carbon Fiber decal (or paint)?

Here's probably the simplest explainer on how to do carbon fiber with paint - http://tamiya.com/english/howto/bike1/tip4.htm -

Yep. I knew that, had just googled it to make sure. Still made a typo/brain fart. -
yeah but you still see goof ups like straight fenders in Dragon's 38t based kits (38t, Grille, Marder, Flakpanzer, etc all $60+, fresh on my mind because I have a Marder on the workbench right now still debating whether to fix it), or if you're down for a fun read check out reviews of Dragon's Black Label series of kits. That B-17 in the OP has a funky cross section forward of the windsheild. Pretty much every new Trumpeter kit gets lambasted for shape or dimensional mistakes. Name a model of ANY genre and somebody can tell you what's wrong with it. Sometimes it's an error of omission, sometimes shape or dimensional errors, sometimes it's errors of mixing up features of one variant with features of another, but I guarantee you, unless it's pure fantasy sci-fi, every kit has something wrong with it.

I would expect a 67 Pace Car (hidden headlight convertible) given their penchant for pace cars. Totally forgot about that one or I would have put it on my list. -
Quick Overview: Revell Starsky & Hutch Torino

As I said before, RPPs around the 20th, everybody else around the 1st. Not all shops participate in the RPP. The way it works is you basically have a standing order for all the new kits each month, reissues and new tools, it's a standard package, like 3 of each except bigger, more expensive stuff might be 2 or 1. It's all the new kits out that month - cars, trucks, planes, ships, whatever. You don't get to pick and choose, you get them all. It ships direct to stores from Revell HQ. Then they ship the full shipment to their network of distributors and they become available to everybody at whatever quantities they want and they can skip the tanks or ships or whatever they don't want that month. TL;DR -RPP means you get a new kits first, but you have to buy all the new kits in fixed quantities in a set package. -

I was holding out hope for a Little T restoration, then they reissued the Street Rod version. Now I'm not so optimistic. -

I meant something all-new, but yeah a reissue of that would be nice. They could Foose it like the Camaro. Especially bold seeing that we've already seen pictures of test shots. -

Moebius' 1965 Plymouth A990 Super Stock Sedan is pretty much a definite. But maybe an AWB is a possibility too? Glue kit of the current Mustang, either pre-paint or full-detail. 2015 Corvette Z06. My longshot would be something in 1/12th scale, maybe a current Mustang or Corvette. Now that Round2 bought Lindberg the 34 Ford P/U tooling is back in the AMT stable. They're definitely going to do something with it. And Stevens Int did an exclusive run of the 39/40 Tudor a few years back, so we know that tooling is good. Hope both of these get the full parts restoration treatment. -
I like 'em! I love that color, especially with white interior like on the convertible.

Scale Modeling and Youth?

Note that this is about the IPMS dropping their Make n Take due to a price increase, not Revell. Revell is still doing it. I have to say I work in the hobby business (Mon-Fri for a web-based retailer, and Saturdays at my LHS) and I'm optimistic about the future and "young folks". Folks younger than me, anyway (I'm 38). Gundams and Sci-fi stuff are pretty popular with the younger crowd, as well as table-top games like Warhammer 40K and the like. I am personally pretty heavy into Gundams right now and have been for the past year or so - they're fun! The first new hobby shop to open in years around here is a Gundam/Anime-focused shop and he seems to be doing pretty well. I don't know if it's just anecdotal and it's just me, but it does seem like most Saturdays since this spring a beginner (mostly adults getting back into modeling) have come into the shop and bought all the paints and supplies for a first-timer build. We recently did a intro to airbrushing class and had almost 40 people there. It might just be the economy getting better, or maybe there is an upswing in interest in modeling, but it's definitely not doom and gloom out there.- 43 replies

Quick Overview: Revell Starsky & Hutch Torino
Brett Barrow replied to Chuck Kourouklis's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Revell Preferred Partner (RPP) shops get a limited number 2 weeks ahead of the regular release schedule. Use this page to find RPP shops near you - http://www2.revell.com/cgi-bin/WRCS57505P.pgm?v=RV2 RPPs usually get stuff around the 20th, everybody else around the first of the next month. Revell has a very predictable and reliable schedule. Just remember that when they say "September Release" this is what they mean, it comes the end of the month. -

I spoke to Ed Sexton waaaaaay back at a show in 2014 about it and he said the car they used was one of the 1976 "Limited Production" cars. If I understood him correctly it's the car of the folks that run that site, and if you look closely at their car, you'll notice the similarity in the "mistakes" Revell made in the slot mags - (similar dish, lugs aligned with slots). http://www.starskytorino.com/johnpennyq/johnpennyq.html And then there's the Wikipedia article - -
Great Scott! That looks great! AMT's was a rebox of the Aoshima kit.

Brett Barrow replied to Chuck Kourouklis's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
There are certainly other reasons to buy this kit, but I think you're underestimating just how much interest there is in this kit in general, outside of the model car boards and model clubs and folks that are already hardcore modelers. This is going to be one of the biggest new kit introductions of my 14 years in the business. The only recent new tooling that has done better for us are the Moebius Ford Pickups (and there a lot fewer places out there to buy Moebius kits than Revell kits, not to mention we were taking pre-orders for them for several years!) and the only other car kit that has done better this calendar year is the General Lee and there are certainly some extenuating circumstances that go along with that this past year. I'd agree that this kit has very good conversion potential, it just that the folks buying it for it's straight-out-of-the-box appeal will dwarf those buying it with other intentions. -

We have tons of pre-orders for this one, but I don't read anything more into it than there is demand for Movie/TV cars. No straight-stock 70's car without a tie-in would generate this much interest. -
BMF Original Chrome?
Brett Barrow replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They had a problem with one of their machines which took a little time to fix and stocks were depleted. They are now back up and running. We have plenty in stock at the moment. http://www.megahobby.com/originalchromebaremetalfoil.aspx -
Which Primers Do you Perfer?

Mr Surfacer 1000 and 1200, both spray can and bottle (thinned with lacquer thinner). Smooth as a baby's bottom. And Tamiya Fine Surface Primer Gray and White but they need to be sanded a little to get them as smooth as Mr Surfacer. -
Testors still makes 1529 Metalflake Red. I don't know if it's different than the old paint, though. I'm sure the formula has changed, but I don't know if the color has changed. That looks really cool. Perfect color for the Cherry Bomb!

Ford 427 FE vs 428 FT -- differences?
Brett Barrow replied to Matt Bacon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The "biscuit tin" seals to the hood scoop, making it a functional ram air intake.
