2016 Revell Germany, new releases
Brett Barrow replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
US MSRP is $34.95 which means about $27-$28 street price. The one place I could find it listed in the UK (Hannants) wants £29. That's around $35 US, right at MSRP and that's their discounted price. Revell Germany prices are usually pretty good in the US since they have re-joined with US Revell under United/Hobbico/Great Planes' ownership. -
Round 2 September '16 Releases
Brett Barrow replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Stock tires are blackwall Firestones (and blackwalls are all that's shown on the box art) - however - there are thin plastic "whitewalls" that can be applied over the tires for a fake whitewall effect. -
MSRP is only $31.95 (still high, I know). I guess that's how they offset those 40% coupons.

Almost all Hawk/Lindberg stuff was being made in the US before Round 2 bought them. Just the J Lloyd-era new tooling (Dodge Chargers and the Dodge Monster Trucks come to mind, there might be a couple others) was made in China. Seems like the sale gave Round 2 access to have some of their other stuff made in the US, too. A couple MPC kits have been done at the same facility (1/100 Vostok and Titan IIIc rockets there might be some others by now) I don't think any AMT stuff has been made there yet.

With this particular tooling the parts that are different are on different mold inserts, they have to run it one way then swap out the inserts and run it again and you end up with a lot of duplicated sprues. They were not intended to be run as 2-in-1's as AMT-Ertl's philosophy at the time was to make different boxings. They've done a few of the other 90's-era kits that were original set up this way as 2-in-1's (1960 Starliner, 1962 Pontiac...) so there must be some legitimate reason why they didn't do this one that way. Box size makes the most sense to me as the box is packed as it is. Or it's possible the sales of other converted 2-in-1's wasn't enough to justify the added expense of making two runs.

What predictions can we make for new kit releases in 2017?
Brett Barrow replied to GMP440's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I know of at least one company that's looking at doing an exclusive run of a couple of these if Revell doesn't do it themselves. -
Who said it would have it? They've been clear with what this kit has and doesn't have. edit: I linked this blog post in one of the other Mod Rod threads a few months ago - http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-models/2554-the-inside-scoop-on-amts-1929-ford-model-a-mod-rod-reissue/#sthash.2rxMLn8H.dpbs

Or just wait. I have no doubt there will be a follow-up stock (or donk/lowrider) version.

They're shipping to distributors now, we got ours yesterday afternoon. Buy 'em up now, it's gonna be a hot one and as is typical with new hot Revell, they'll probably be a little scarce for a month or two after the first batch sells through. https://www.megahobby.com/products/1983-hurst-oldsmobile-1-25-revell-monogram.html

I'd just like to point out that the #1 best selling kit of last year was: (And the General Lee was #2, but there were some extenuating circumstances with that one) And the #1 car kit by a long shot so far this year (just preorders, too) is this: All these kits just offer one building option. Revell has years of sales data, they know their customer base pretty well. The first thing I learned when I got into this business 15 years ago was to quit thinking like an enthusiast.hobbyist and start thinking like a beginner. 2 in 1 and 3 in 1 kits can often intimidate the beginner or average builder and as such are not really marketed to them. Revell's core are the beginners and average modelers.

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
Brett Barrow replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
They look funky because the real things look funky. -
They're not unless you're an RPP shop, and not everyone is. Usually RPP comes in around the 20th, this was a bit early. You only get a handful, and it's a package deal where you get a pre-determined (by Revell) number of every new kit every month, you don't get to pick and choose. Not everyone does it. http://www2.revell.com/cgi-bin/WRCS57505P.pgm?v=RV2
-
Yeah, the whole point of RPP is to give brick and mortar shops a head start against the internet guys. I can't buy one for myself until our regular stock comes in , but I did take the shrink off one of our RPP stock. Was really surprised to see the red pinstripe pre-painted on the wheels. Nice touch! I'm not going to open up the inner bags because I have to sell this but here are a couple sneak peeks.

Ollie's strike again
Brett Barrow replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Anybody pick up a 77 Monte Carlo they want to trade? I can trade any of the current Revell snaps (or anything current of equal value, really). I went to pick one up for myself a while back but our source had gotten rid of them (likely where these came from). -

Ollie's strike again
Brett Barrow replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They buy overstocks & closeouts from distributors (or possibly straight from the manufacturer) who just want to get something even if it means taking a loss. Most of these were sales dogs (sorry Meyers Manx fans!) or longtime kits that were bought a little too deep (like Revell snaps for the Christmas season). You wont see the new hotness in there. -
Combined shipping - another area where folks don't read/follow instructuons and then ding you. They'll go and pay for each listing separately and then leave you negative feedback when you don't go back and combine it for them after the fact or you don't notice that these separate orders are going to the same person. Request combined shipping, then wait for the seller to send you a combined invoice then pay that, dont pay for each item! Happens all the time, I'd say at least half of our daily eBay messages are about getting a shipping refund because they didn't wait for the combined invoice. Luckily somebody else in the office handles our eBay stuff, I don't have the patience for it. Sounds like this guy got fed up with it. I'm sure I probably have a different opinion of this guy than everybody else on the board, but I know what he probably goes through on a daily basis. He just has an IDGAF attitude that I kinda respect on a personal level, but I dont think is the best way to run a business on a professional level.
-
Yeah, he's not very professional about it if you ask me, but I know exactly what he's dealing with. He does it so when he gets a negative feedback or a refund request he can show eBay a screenshot of the listing and get the negative feedback removed or dispute the refund, that's how he's at 100%. Everything he could possibly get negative feedback for he addresses in his listings and with the "away" notification (I'd bet he leaves it set like that so folks can't complain about slow shipping turnaround. I've had folks place order at 6pm and then ding us because it hasn't shipped by 10am the next day. Our pickup is at 2pm!) Guy's a genius, really. Makes him seem like a psycho, but he's got his bases covered.

READ THE F&$%#&ING LISTING!!! He says use the "make offer" button. Geez... I feel this guys pain, I have to deal with this same type of stuff all the time. Want to know how many times we've sold $4.00 (with $2.00 shipping) HO scale Grandt Line 6 packs of windows to folks thinking they were full size replacement windows? Or Evergreen & Plastruct styrene siding that folks think is full size. Read the &$%#&ing listing, people! It really chaps my hide, I spend a good part of my day writing listings trying to think of what to say so that its clear what we're seling and nobody reads the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH things. I waste my time writing them then waste more time answering questions and processing returns for folks that didn't read them...
