Not dead yet- I have worn out a lot of sanding sticks on this project. Finally decided I needed to throw on another coat of primer to check things out- and it still needs work! Got the belly pan/chassis under it with some wheels- pretty happy with the stance. Still constructing the grille, will start on the divided windshield frame soon, V-16 engine slowly progressing (more putty sanding) and the interior is becoming more definite- mocked up the dash gauge cluster- the steering column will be under the large center gauge. The inner interior panels are from the Revell model A loboy version.

airbrushing nail polish
Paul Payne replied to Paul Payne's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I will be trying combinations on plastic spoons before I use it on a model. -
I was getting more sanding sticks at the beauty supply and came across some had to have nail polish colors. Some years ago Betsy bought me an airbrush but I never got up the courage to use it. So- what do I thin nail polish with? Second, will the same thing clean an airbrush properly ( cleaning the airbrush was why it never got used). Third, what primers can be used under nail polish? I usually use inexpensive rattle can flat black which seems to bring out, to my eyes, little imperfections to correct before final paint. Also, I am partial to deep jewel tones such as maroon and midnight blue and this seems to enrich these colors. Any advise appreciated, and if a topic covering this already exists, please point it out for me!

That is one sweet ride! Your tweeks and improvements sound great- please post more pix when things have moved along! Can you tell us a bit more about the engine?

Jeffdeoranut, are you out there? I still have the parts you wanted but haven't heard from you. Hope all is well.

What a great little hot rod! Followed along and the miracle you performed with a piece of #%$@ is incredible. Your research and the ability to see shapes and curves and then form them took a really good eye!

Monogram 1940 Ford Moonshine progress
Paul Payne replied to SawgrassRaven's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I would leave the weathering alone- if you handle your model carefully, and it's in a diorama case, it shouldn't be disturbed. But don't dust it- you already have!? -
Finally got to Hobby Lobby (an hour's drive away) to see if they had any Testor's products- and to my surprise they had quite a good selection (at least this store)! Stocked up on bottle clear in the large bottle (it looks thinner than my last bottle which dried up- use it for attaching gauge faces, glass, and small parts), a number of 1/4 oz bottles, spray gloss and flat, blazing black, color shift in blue, "diamond dust" (looks like silver on the cap), also a bottle of craft paint in deep blue, brush cleaner, as well as a 1mm Molotow pen. Was hoping to find 1/8th inch brass or aluminum channel but no luck. Would still like to find metallizers, dark red or maroon, and midnight blue metallic in spray cans.

I would send that photo to Revell and request a replacement for every tree like that. It's awful!

Your weathering is top notch! -
For me, that would qualify as a senior moment!?

If you have to move, the biggest no no is to let the movers pack your models. They just don't get how fragile they are.

That is some of the most convincing weathering I have ever seen! Great visual story in a small space. -
1946 Dodge Power Wagon
Paul Payne replied to Paul Payne's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Roy, mine is an Ertl Collectibles 1/25th scale model. The wheels look completely different from your picture. Behind the brake plate you can just see a disc which I suspect is part of the securing mechanism. Very difficult to get at without gouging the brake plate or breaking the axle. Possibly I could get a thin blade between them and cut the axle, then glue them back together (not a fan of rolling wheels). -

Roy, I will take a look and see what I can do. Thanks! -

Roy, thanks for the info, but not sure what stem you are referring to. Could you send a pic or sketch? Removing the wheels and tires would make painting and weathering a lot easier! -

Well, I have been chipping away at several projects at once- more putty and sanding on the car behind the egg crate grille, as well as continuing to build the grille itself. Working on the V-16 engine which will have 2 centrifugal superchargers with the help of Norm Veber. Started stripping the paint from my Dodge power wagon- that paint is tough- used oven cleaner at first, then switched to acetone- yes, the parts are metal, so no melting- having a fit fitting the hemi in the engine compartment- need to grind/file more from the sides. A little progress on the big speed boat- got some propellers which are made for spinner fishing lures which will work perfectly- gold plated too so no painting! In addition doing some good trades on the forum and sharing info with everyone!
