My wife and I have moved several times due to job changes. I suggest, if possible, to move your models yourself in your own vehicle- and don't let any movers pack or move them! I have packed as many as possible in the plastic cases I display them in, using foam rubber sheets underneath and smaller pieces surrounding the model, as well as rolled up pieces of worn out cotton sweatshirts and pants (the cotton won't scratch). Then, pack the cases (or smaller boxes), into larger boxes with extra packing if required.

The Beast...KW winch truck
Paul Payne replied to gotnitro?'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ran across this thread, usually don't browse the big rigs, but I'm rebuilding a die cast 1946 Dodge power wagon. Try washing your winch cable in Testors rubber, then dry brushing with steel. Testors rubber is great for grease, oil, and general crud. -
What did you screw-up today??

Great old school roadster! Looks like you had fun- which is what it's all about!

great job and especially nice carbon fiber decal work- looks like a contest winner to me!

That's a great restoration- I have a metal body TC as well and the delicate chassis components don't like all that weight- I need to figure out how to reattach a broken front wheel to a broken axle as well as some other damage from household moves.

That is a beautiful build! I think we forget how tall these cars were after seeing so many hotrodded.

Beautiful job- love everything you have done- can't wait to see it finished!

*Best Looking Car/Truck Model You've Seen*

Tim, I agree with you about Doug Whyte's Studebaker- saw it in person at NNL East and it is jaw dropping! -
The (long string of highly picturesque and explicitly genealogical expletives) hood has been my nemesis-this is about the third time piecing it together and now I need to do a lot of sanding and fitting to see where I'm at, if indeed I am anywhere at all! Meanwhile I have been puttying and sanding and reshaping and puttying and sanding and reshaping (you see where this is going) the body. The tail light areas will end up being extensively reshaped. I may use deep red toothbrush handle plastic for the lenses. No additional progress on the egg crate grille, but I have been working on the V-16 engine. I am planning on a central gear tower between each V-8 section which will provide the gears for both the camshafts and also the twin centrifugal superchargers which will be mounted on each side of the engine. This idea was used in prewar Alfa Romeo straight 8 engines. Since centrifugal superchargers are very hard to come by in 1/25th or 1/24th scale, I decided to scratchbuild one, and then have some resin castings made. Digging through the stash, I discovered a solid airplane wheel and tire about 3/4" diameter molded in silver grey plastic. First, I used a fine saw to cut down through the tread and sidewall of the tire portion. Then, to one side of the cut, I began to remove material to about half the tire thickness, then continued removing less and less material along the diameter. Next, I removed the wheel area with a reamer and circular file until nothing but the tire was left. After this I narrowed and tapered the cross section. I have included a picture of my results so far, as well as a picture of the supercharger used on the Novi race car engine, that I am trying to replicate.

truck, boat, and trailer

More progress- the stern has been completed and the hull has been faired and scale 3" planks are being cut from the cedar cigar wrapper. Also, the floor for the skipper's and passenger's compartments has been laid in. The deck has been challenging- the plastic is somewhat brittle and some of the patches have come loose. The cockpit openings are very rough and will need a lot of refining. In addition, fairing the hull has altered its top outline a bit so the deck will need some edge sanding for a flush fit. By the way, the Power Wagon has been partially disassembled, with certain attachments still somewhat of a mystery. -

Augie Hiscano's XK-R (r stands for rod) blue roadster was my inspiration to build better models. -
Never saw a vip version- this is interesting- will follow!

What's the point of the old threads?
Paul Payne replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I regularly go through old threads and have found many great models I have brought forward to be enjoyed again. I have said it before- this forum is our history. Regarding "nothing happening"- we have many members who have worked on projects for years, and occasionally have a chance for sharing updates- besides, if I revive someone else's thread something has happened! -
Wood grain is indeed cool! Paint, decal, or?

Actually, most hot rods in the 40's sat level. This is looking very good!

Any chance of an engine pic?

Here’s a tip- swap out the AMT wheels and tires for the Revell ones- proper wheel diameter and better tires.
