I've been using Windows 10 since it came out. It definitely works better than 7 in some ways. I haven't had any crashes on 10, which is saying something. I'm not thrilled with the start menu, but you can find software to put that back to the Windows 7 style. There's no way I would connect an unsupported system to the Internet, even with a firewall. Things are bad enough already, and there's no point in asking for trouble. Just ask Experian. Definitely make sure you have enough RAM and disk space. If you have to upgrade your disk, I heartily recommend an SSD. I have a 10 year old laptop that runs like a champ on an SSD.

What did you see on the road today?
Dave Ambrose replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I didn't get a picture, but I saw a lovely Franklin. I think it was a Torpedo Phaeton, but it went by too fast for a picture. I have a feeling there are a lot of super interesting cars around here. Oddly enough, this isn't the only Franklin I've encountered around here. -
My kids didn't like the solvent smell, so they used that instead. It uses orange oil as the solvent. It isn't anywhere near as strong as the solvent based glue. My daughter used it to assemble a model rocket. The rocket promptly disassembled itself on launch. Last time she ever used that stuff.

You have my heartfelt condolences. It's never easy to lose a parent.

Trying to send a message to another board member

Holy Cow! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I haven't seen this either, and I was using the unread content view a lot for a while. I'll open a problem ticket with the forum software vendor. -
This thread has wandered a very long way from its original topic. So, I’m going to lock it. For the curious, eModelcars was an experiment that failed. It takes a lot to get a given web site to fly, and it never got to that self-sustaining state. I wont say we’ll never revisit the selling aspect, but it’s not on our agenda right now.

Need photos of oversized plug wires
Dave Ambrose replied to Jon Cole's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ok folks, enough is enough and this is way too much. All the models I built as a kid are gone. Sometimes I miss them, but then I realize I’m doing way better now and they would just be an embarrassment. Let’s be kind and assume that people are doing the best they can. If they’re having fun, great. Let’s leave it at that. -
Looking forward to watching your progress. The wheels would have been painted silver grey. Very rarely would they have been chromed due to hydrogen embrittlement. I think the engines were a specific red color (sorry, colour). If you need info, Moss Motors has parts catalogs online.

This is an especially nice build. The rope door handle, underside detail painting, and pinstripe decals are very cool touches.

Having done plaster work myself, I’ll add to the chorus of take it out. Done right, it has a nice, organic look to it, but it’s totally not worth the weight and trouble.

This has been making the rounds lately: I'm posting this with a heavy heart...? As much as I love working on, and building model cars, it takes up too much of my time and I am struggling to keep up with the everyday basics such as cleaning and helping with my home, so something has to give. I will be getting rid of my collection. Below is a list of what's available. Serious inquiries only please and don't insult me with your offers. Thanks for reading and understanding... Dustpan and brush Sponges Dusters (feather type!) Mop and bucket Window cleaner Vacuum

Thanks. This is a good idea. Saves space, and makes the pictures more useful.

Why isn't there anymore 2d SUV
Dave Ambrose replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We went from an FJ40 Landcruiser to a Suburban. With kids and all, you gotta have 4 doors. After the Suburban got stolen, we bought ourselves an Xterra; also 4 doors. Drove that poor thing to death, but got 265K until the transmission failed. I don't get why people buy the fancy leather seats for their SUVs. I don't know about the rest of you, but the interior of our vehicles see way too much salt, sand, and dirt for leather upholstery to last more than a few years. The upholstery in our Xterra was derided as cheap looking, and it kinda was, but boy was it durable. -
Yes, just attach them to your postings. You can also copy and paste photos. We have essentially unlimited space. The only downside is that full backups can take a long time, and a LOT of space. But that's my problem. Sadly, we lost all of Harry Pristovnik's photos, thanks to Photobucket turning evil.

Welcome back! That is a rough ride. Hopefully, you can initiate a criminal complaint against these people. If they’re convicted, you can get restitution as part of the sentence.

preparing resin parts: soak in Simple Green?
Dave Ambrose replied to fiatboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've only used old-formula Bleche White. It worked great. Used lacquer primer and paint with no problems. I still have my bottle. Guess I'd better keep a close eye on it. I have a $350 kit I want to come out perfectly. -
I found a cause to some of the picture upload problems. We had the file size limited to 2MB. A lot of pictures are bigger than that. I've upped the limit to 3MB, and may increase it further to 4MB. If you have problems, check the file size first. If 3 MB isn't sufficient, let me know, and I'll increase the limit further.

This is great to see. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

That's a surprise. Thanks. It seems to have something to do with the message content. Try posting the first half of your message, and see if that makes a difference.
