Project #2, 1959 Mercury, Finished!
charlie8575 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice work so far on the up-top. The yellow is the molded color? Charlie Larkin -
And the model will probably last longer, too in better condition. I take it the XDX sticker is the old East Germany sticker with the rest of the initials crossed out? Very nice job on this. I'm in for one. Charlie Larkin

Revell announces new line of snap kits
charlie8575 replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wonder how much coaxing it would take for Round 2 to reissue the Caravan? I'd buy another one or two, and might even make a C/V out of one. Tom- cool to see you starting on some PTs. You'll have fun with those. Charlie Larkin -
In Massachusetts, they're running registration, title and license fees into orbit to pay for highways- and in direct violation of very clearly-written laws. Believe me, Chuck, I hear you. Charlie Larkin

Will GM's problems ever end?
charlie8575 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1012?? A very early model, I see. I actually wouldn't mind one of those either, problem is even used they're nearly as expensive as new ones. Charlie Larkin -
James, where did you buy that visor from? Dad and I might end up sharing it. Charlie Larkin

As long as I have the funds available to go, I will be there. Can't wait, and I'm looking forward to seeing some first-rate builds and the incredible scenery the southwest is famous for. I've wanted to go since my dad worked in New Mexico and brought back the pictures as proof. The only question I have is where is the show roughly? I have this map because I also intend to try to visit a lodge while I'm out there. http://www.azmasons.org/locator/lodge_results_list.php?state=AZ&country=US&showonly=US&city=Phoenix&pageno=1 Charlie Larkin

French Cafe Street Diorama 1960s ~ Stop Motion Animation
charlie8575 replied to enzoferrari's topic in WIP: Dioramas
Very nicely done. Charlie Larkin -
After all the years I spent teaching, and still doing a little bit of ed-related work here and there and volunteering with De Molay, I find myself frequently reminding the boys that girls (and parents, teachers, and other adults) generally don't go for meatheads. Your tale, Dave, proves that very nicely. Charlie Larkin

Why not, might be fun?! Very nice build, by the way. Charlie Larkin

So, Gary....was the red-head worth it? Charlie Larkin

1964 Impala SS convertible for a friend update 6-11
charlie8575 replied to cobraman's topic in WIP: Model Cars
What did you use for the interior paint, Ray? It looks pretty good. I found Pontiac Engine Blue was a pretty good match for the light metallic blue paint on the interior parts. Charlie Larkin -
Bronze Rose....interesting choice. I'll be interested to see how that turns out. Charlie Larkin

OUCH! That really hurts. I'll look forward to seeing this one come back to life, Mike. Charlie Larkin

Recharge your A/C
charlie8575 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've used a couple of conversion kits on older cars, and never had a bit of trouble. At least in my case, it was two ports that attached to the existing ports and then you're ready to go. The parts shouldn't be that expensive- ran about $15-20 when we did it in the early 2000s on our older cars. If you have a leak due to part failure, that needs to be fixed anyway. Might as well fix it or have it done, and then recharge it with the new oil and refrigerant. Here's the pieces. http://www.amazon.com/Interdynamics-VA-LH11-Conditioning-Conversion-Adapter/dp/B002G1PC4U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1402550842&sr=8-2&keywords=r12+to+r134a+conversion+kit I'd recommend getting the refrigerant/oil locally. Check AutoZone for prices on A/C Pro, and if you have it, use the 20% coupon. Problem solved. Charlie Larkin -
Talk about a rare bird. Check out the 1960 Edsel brochure, Steve. There are some really nice color combinations. I thought the black with red/silver interior was rather striking. There are some other very good picks, though. Charlie Larkin

Having experienced that myself in differing varieties, I understand all too well. I hope things go well for you, Russ. At least your family is being good to you and working with, and not against, you. Charlie Larkin

I was thinking the same thing. Interesting full-color graphic on the tires. I've never seen that before. Also interesting that a 2-door Fiesta hatch is available. Here, we get the 4-door or a 4-door sedan. Very nice job. Charlie Larkin

Very nice, Don. Pretty little car. I wouldn't mind one of those myself. Charlie Larkin

Nice job on that, Geoff. It's actually a rather nice color- surprised it didn't sell better. Charlie Larkin

Check out this wagon

I want one now! Absolutely brilliant. Charlie Larkin -
Very nice, Dan. I always liked the 1970 B-bodies. I wouldn't be one bit upset if AMT added the body/interior/trim parts to use with the 1968-69 chassis components. Charlie Larkin

There is a lot of truth to that, and that irks me to no end. We have a generation of narcissists, and it will do nobody any good in the long run. Charlie Larkin

Yuck! That said, I've had more than a few pieces of bread fall butter-side up. Charlie Larkin
