Nick made one mention of something that I will agree with. More tires. Good whitewalls especially would be welcomed. I've found those decals in the Revell kits just don't like me. Say, does anyone know if any of the Modelhaus or S.E. Ltd. tires will fit the newer Revell wheels? I'm thinking of using those in place of some of the other options on my 4-4-2 and a couple of other kits. Charlie Larkin

Navy car pictures needed.
charlie8575 replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember seeing an authentic 1957 Plymouth about fifteen years ago at the Worcester Summer Nationals. "Authentic" as in it was a real U.S. Navy staff car with 34,000 original miles on it. I don't know how they did the Chevies, but I can tell you this was a Plaza two-door sedan in Dark blue with a gray interior. It was a V-8/PowerFlite (two-speed automatic,) and had a heater-defroster and AM radio. I believe it had power steering also. I'd go with a dark blue with the stock 150 interior. Charlie Larkin -
I like it! Chuck, could you take a picture of underneath? I didn't realize that these were 1:1; I thought it was a phantom. I toyed with picking up one and making it a regular wagon (and still probably will,) but I'd like to see what you did underneath as it's just a body casting. Ideas on fabricating the interior would also be appreciated. Charlie Larkin

I think I remember that cartoon. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's hilarious. Hmmm...and idea for a diorama is forming... I wonder if it's on DVD. Charlie Larkin

Very nice work; is that blue intended to replicate a factory color? Charlie Larkin

The Great Gonzo strikes again! Where's the singing chicken?? (a little Muppet humor there.) Very nice build, and definitely nice to see something than a top-line car. Charlie Larkin

That body casting looks good. I think Missing Link has another grand slam on its hands. I'll look forward to more pictures. Chaarlie Larkin

Thanks to both of you for doing yet another great build-compare. A question: does the Model Car Garage photo-etch have the missing "CHEVROLET" lettering or could I possibly do a foil-copy off an AMT '62 Impala or Bel-Air? Great job on both models, I especially like the factory-stock version. Charlie Larkin

Nice job with the trunk mat; where'd you dig that up...or how did you make it? Charlie Larkin

I'll be interested to see how this kit comes out...and how dealing with Chrysler goes, I've been told they're very difficult, although with the new ownership, perhaps not as much. I'll tell you right now, this comes even close to right, almost every H-E-T member around the world will buy one just because. I'm going to see if they want a review done of it for White Triangle News, the club magazine. Charlie Larkin

Door issue aside, very nice work. The pictures themselves aren't too bad, just try holding the camera a little steadier. I'd also suggest getting a Photobucket or similar service account rather than directly uploading pictures here. Charlie Larkin

I really wish I had been able to finish my Pontiac, space/time/family/employment all conspired against me so it didn't. I do want to try and get it done before month's end though, just on principle. It's about 75% done, I need to put the interior together and do the final assembly and detail painting. Charlie Larkin

AMT's 1960 Ford Starliner. (Photos Restored)
charlie8575 replied to David G.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Actually, David, the uni-belt we now know didn't really exist until 1972, although a few foreign cars may have used something like it, probably Mercedes. Your multi-part shoulder/lap belt is a factory item and the cars were designed with those as factory-installed equipment. Used properly, they're reasonably safe, just not very comfortable. At the bear minimum, I'd still use the lap belts. Some GM cars (like my friend's 1972 Le Mans) had a key arrangement that would secure the shoulder harness into the tongue of the lap belt and lock it in-place almost like a unibelt. That's actually quite safe and is similar to what had historically been used in small aircraft in terms of operation. I think AMC and Chrysler had similar affairs, I'm not sure about Ford. Jon, I think those Coos County winters have started to cause permafrost on your brain! This is seriously good news, especially the re-patriation of production. I say for that reason we need to start buying more of their goods and keep jobs in America and the North American trade zone. Charlie Larkin -
I think you did a good job with it, and that color combination is very eye-catching. Charlie Larkin

Too bad GM didn't do that; it would've been easy to share the parts with the Cutlass Supreme. Nice work, Harold. Charlie Larkin

This is one of my favorite modern cars. I think it's just simply beautiful. I'm surprised with this kit; I remember reading it wasn't too bad except the hood was a bit fiddly? I may still buy one, though. Just as a point of information, are there any other 612 kits out there? Charlie Larkin

Mini's Johan cutlass vs newage donk trend !

No truer words were ever spoken. Maybe the empty bank account explains why I have trouble getting a date... Charlie Larkin -
Mini's Johan cutlass vs newage donk trend !
charlie8575 replied to David@MinidreamsInc.'s topic in Model Cars
I have to agree with the rest of the crowd, and Matthew's thoughts on how this horrible trend ought to be spelled! I have other, far-less kind words for it. I'm not a fan of any of these monster wheels, even on new cars. I think most of them look hideous in terms of design and hideously ill-proportioned, especially on smaller cars. However, your paint and bodywork are truly marvelous. With a set of Olds Super Stock IIs on it (the body-color wheels,) I think it'd look great! Charlie Larkin -
That looks really close to the Burgundy Chrysler offered in 1968, maybe a shade lighter, but it looks GREAT! See the chip here. To clarify, did you put that over black primer or black paint? Charlie Larkin
-
Well done. The color scheme looks great; very similar to a Fury. Charlie Larkin
-
Great job, Matt. That's a model to be proud of. Charlie Larkin

Idea for a color scheme, if you're receptive: Whatever they had for a burgundy or similar color that year, white or beige vinyl top, and a camel or red (if offered) interior. Dark blue/white/dark blue, and dark green/beige/beige are other can't miss colors. Charlie Larkin
