AMT-Matchbox did a Volvo F10/F12, I think it was issued 1981 and you could build it as a regular or Globetrotter, Kit No PK-6130.

Here is a picture I have of the interior and roll cage of this car, not a good one but you can see the color anyway.

Year model of Big Rig Truck Kits
Force replied to leafsprings's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't have a clue. The lack of accuracy is the main reason for me not buying Italeri kits, I had a bunch of their Volvo and Scania kits from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's but I sold almost all of them off as I don't like to build inaccurate kits with outdated chassis and engines, and most of the kits are Euro spec 2-axle single drive tractors wich we don't have many of where I live, so to be able to build what I want I have to get resin and photo etched aftermarket parts for a fortune and I don't want to do that. -
Year model of Big Rig Truck Kits
Force replied to leafsprings's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Ertl 1/25th scale Volvo N10 has a TD100 and the N7-N10-N12 was available between 1973-88, what year the kit exactly is I don't know but it has to be somewhere around 1982-83ish, it's a US spec truck with a set forward front axle, the european version of these trucks had a set back front axle. The Ertl Peterbilt 359 has a Detroit Diesel 8V-71T or 8V-92T and as it has rectangular headlights it has to be from around 1980 and forward. If we go to the Italeri Volvo kits most of the kits have the old TD120F from the first F12 kit from 1981, but the later Volvo kits like the FH 12 series should have had a D12A, C, D and F, the TD162 for the F16, the TD16A and B for the FH16 series, past 2005 some of the Volvo kits should have the D13A, B, C, K, and D16C and E. The latest Volvo FH4 kit from 2018-19 did finally get the current D16 engine tho' I don't know if it's a G or K but it's a long sought after update. Here are the years for the Volvo truck models made as model kits from Ertl, Italeri/Testors, Revell Germany and AMT/Matchbox Volvo F10, F12, and F16 1977-1993. The F10 and F12 were launched in 1977 and the F16 was launched in 1987, the cab was upgraded 1983 with a higher roofline and 1987 with a different grille and headlight configuration, the Globetrotter cab came 1979. Volvo N7-N10-N12 1973-88, The N-series got upgrades to the hood with larger rectangular headlights instead of the previous dual round ones and a slightly longer hood to make room for the intercooler radiator late in it's life around 1985-86. Volvo VN-VNL 1996-Present, 2004 it got a revised hood, headlamps, fairings and interior Volvo FH First Generation 1993-98, Second Generation 1998-2002, Version 2 2002-2012, New FH (FH4) 2012-Present I believe all of the Italeri Scania kits has the old DS14 V8 from the first T142H kit also from 1981, the engines should have been updated to DSC14 for the later T and R142, 143 and R 144 kits and the DC16 for the later R164 and R-series kits like the R730, but they did not do that so all Scania kits from Italeri has the old outdated DS14 originally developed for the 1969 model year and isn't even in production anymore. Here are the years for the Scania Line of trucks wich some are available as model kits from Heller and Italeri/Testors. 0-series 50, 80, 85, 110, 140 (1968−74) 1-series 81, 86, 111, 141 (1974−81) 2-series 82, 92, 112, 142 (1980−88) 3-series 93, 113, 143 (1987−97) 4-series 94, 114, 124, 144, 164 (1995−2004) T-series (2004−05) - former part of the PRT-range (only available as resin conversion kit) R-series (different from the early R series from 1980) First Generation 2004-2016, Second Generation 2016-Present S-series 2016-Present -
Well that's correct for a NASCAR version, they didn't use the Dana 60.

The Cummins NTC engines in some of the US kits are slightly modified to more resemble a N14 with air to air intercooler but are not correct by far and not usable as a N14 without more modifications in the head/valve cover area to look right. The Freightliner FLD 120 has updated rear suspension to the newer FAS II Airliner suspension but the older FAS Airliner suspension parts from the FLC are still in there. Revell Germany also has only two engines for their entire US truck kit line except for the reboxed Italeri kits, Cummins NTC475 Twin Turbo and Caterpillar 3408, and the Revell US has only the Caterpillar 3406 in 1:25 scale and 3408 for the 1:16 scale -
AMT 34 Ford 3 window coupe
Force replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well as it was 8-9 years between the Tudor Sedan and the 5 Window Coupe I thought they were more different than they are and not based on the same basic tooling, but appearently that's the case. I have never had the 33 or 34 Tudor Sedan so I don't know how it is, but I have a couple of the 34 5 Window Coupe and they are nice kits. -
Looks kind of cool, I like it.

AMT Kenworth Challenge Mixer reissue 2020
Force replied to Champeen's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I have heard of this upcoming reissue a couple of months ago and I will for sure get one or two then it arrives. Hopefully it will have all the correct parts from the past in it, I know the rear suspension is going to be the walking beam as the torsion bar suspension this kit originally had is long gone and was more for long haul transports anyway, and the walking beam suspension is more appropriate for a concrete mixer so it really doesn't matter. -

Looking good KJ, I really like your builds and you get the vintage look perfectly. -
AMT 34 Ford 3 window coupe
Force replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe the Tudor Sedan are of the same vintage as the 3 Window Coupe, I don't know for sure as I don't have either of them but parts from the Tudor can for sure work, but the 5 Window Coupe was a different tool all together. -

Yes Jim, I noticed you said it wasn't accurate nor complete and that's why I decided to help out with what I know so the list can be even better and more useful for the community, because it's a good list and I really appreciate your work. -

Year model of Big Rig Truck Kits
Force replied to leafsprings's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice work on the list, it's very helpful. But I noticed a thing that's not entirely correct there and it's the engines in the Italeri US truck kits kits and the reboxed Italeri kits issued by Revell and AMT. Italeri only has two engines in these kits, except for the Volvo VN wich has no engine, and it's Detroit Diesel Series 60 for the Peterbilt truck kits and Cummins NTC for all others. Some of the Cummins engines in the Italeri US truck kits are most likely meant to be N14 but they don't look like one, the valve covers on the N14 are square shaped but the kit engines still has for the older NTA/NTC significantly shaped valve covers and Italeri took a shortcut (as they usually do) and only did a couple of changed parts to do an air to air aftercooler/intercooler for the engine instead of the water to air aftercooler the NTC originally has, so they don't have a correct N14 and they don't have any Cat engines even tho' they want us to believe so. I also noticed is the Mack DM trucks listed as AMT and that's partly correct, but they were originally developed and issued by MPC and ERTL later bought the molds and issued them under the ERTL name, the latest issues has the AMT and MPC brand, it doesn't matter tho' as Round2 owns both the MPC and AMT brands now. The AMT Kenworth W925 listed as W923 wich it really is since the rear suspension was changed from torsion bar to walking beam, has the same NTA 370 engine as the K123 and not the NTC 350, the AMT Alaskan Hauler and T600 also has the NTA 370. The AMT Ford L-series kits has a Caterpillar 1145/1150/1160 called V175 and V225 by Ford wich can be modified to a 3208 with a V-style fuel pump. The AMT Peterbilt 359 California Hauler "small window" Unilite cab kit T500-500, T500, T522 and the latest AMT866 has the same Detroit Diesel 8V-71 like the 352, and the later 359 1100 Series cab kits T501 and T533 and all issues after that has the Cummins NTC 350. The Italeri Western Star trucks are a 4964 (also issued under Revell) and a Constellation, I'm no expert on Western Star but I can't find 4800 on any of Italeri boxes. -
I don't know what's with the German designers, they seem to have to exaggerate design features like the grilles, just because the kidney shaped grilles are significant for BMW they doesn't have to be this large, Audi has done the same lately with their grilles wich has been larger and larger over the years. I don't mean that I don't like the kidney grille on BMW's, they have allways had them but I think this one on the 850 is one of their better designs for the grille, it's subtle but you immediately see what brand it is without it beeing exaggerated.

The radiator wall is not the same in the Mustang and Fairlane but you could probably use it and make it work.
-
May I have another input there. The radiator from the Thunderbolt is not correct as the Thunderbolts used a cross flow big block radiator from a Galaxie to cool the 427 FE High Riser engine, the small block Fairlanes used the same radiator as the small block Mustangs.
-
The chassis from the Thunderbolt is perfect for this as the 1962-65 Fairlanes and the 1962-63 Meteor shares the basic platform and is the only Ford/Mercury cars who do so, so they are closely related. Many may think the Falcon/Mustang platform works but it's kind of close but it's definately not the same as the Fairlane/Meteor platform is slightly larger and differs in several places...I used to own a 1964 Fairlane and guess how I know this. I will for sure follow this build. One thing if you are going to do a street car, the leafs and brackets are right but take off the traction bars as they are racing only and maybe change the rear end to an 8 inch as I belive it was standard on the Meteor and Fairlane, I don't know if the 9 inch was on the option list even for the 289 HP 4-speed cars.

Me too.

BRBO 2020 ProStar and Race Trailer
Force replied to kilrathy10's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yes, I would like to see one of the model companies do a Featherlite Race Transporter Trailer, there are other manufacturers with similar trailers too, but Featherlite is the most popular transporter trailer among racing teams out there as they are used by NASCAR teams, NHRA and other Drag Racing teams, Indycar teams, Sprint Car teams and many others. AMT did an attempt to do racing transporter trailers back in the very early 90's but that was their old Trailmobile moving van, wich first saw daylight back in 1972, with an interior and some racing equipment and is not anywhere near what they use today...and even back when they did it. Italeri did racing transporter combinations but it's an European style with a single drive truck and a short box trailer and nothing like the 53 foot long dual drive conventional truck US syle transporters wich are a lot cooler looking. I believe a modern US style race transporter trailer would sell good as teams in all kinds of racing divisions use them so there are many options for model builders to do. Maybe Moebius is up for the challenge to do one as it would go well with their International trucks.
