What A Deal!!,That hard to find part...
keyser replied to Badluck 13's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Life's too short to wade thru his nonsense for an overpriced kit part, or anything else. Even if it was reasonable, he's a time waster just covering his own rear. If it's that aggravating, quit. -

Someone needs to ask if the model grille comes with a real truck and how many miles does it have, since that's top dollar for a 70's Dodge. And see if he'd toss in some siding and windows with the grille and truck. -
The A-team Van has a correct ribbed roof, and it also has both a GMC grille and a Chevy grille. It is actually better in many ways than the original Chevy van from '71. The body is a different tool from the re-issued Chevy, though very similar. The chassis is essentially the same. I've got an original issue molded in black, and a re-issue molded in dark gray. Both have lenses for everything, John, maybe yours were missing? The later issue for sure has 2 sets of seats, low back and high backs. GMC grille is good, though I'm far from expert. The window van option is not there, side panels molded in like the re-issue Chevy, and pretty much everything since they started putting those dopey round windows in about '74. If you want windows, only real option is 71-74 issues of the Chevy (Fire 71, Police 72, Drag-Surf 73, Open Road 74?, I think). I had all of them new, and I don't even like vans that much. WIsh I had any handy for pics, they're all in storage. Weren't they going to re-issue Open Road at one point??

No offense, sorry. So many here think tech is solely for social media. My life has never permitted me to shut stuff off, for patient availablility, and time zone stuff for other business as you're aware. I'd love to walk away, but even in semi-retirement/chemo for last couple years, I can't. I agree facebook is a waste of time, a hobby that's not a hobby. Same thing for twitter. They are useful in business, and are basically an advertising portal and a platform for people who shouldn't have a voice to have a voice (or get elected) Anyway, lots can be done, and social media isn't what tech is about. Funny you mention that Bill, I used to hunt cars and parts with a bag phone, a brutal memory, a fistful of plane tickets, and cash. Good times, but far easier now. Post up Rivolta pic somewhere, those things are pretty and really underappreciated. Don't post dump updates. -
That is gorgeous. I've got one I bought from Dave VdW when they first came out. Your work is awesome, it's motivated me, and given me great ideas. Thanks for schooling me

It's NOT about social media. I don't care social media daily life. It's about managing everything, news, marketing, buying, banking. At 44, if you don't use tech, you'll be stuck career-wise. I haven't used mail for a bill, or paper filed taxes in a decade, or actually used a desktop computer in months. I use phone for everything. Not a matter of instant gratification. Its a matter of keeping up, or getting left behind. I bought a home, got loan, down, signed everything, arranged inspections, contractor planning, all of it with my smart phone alone. Only actual paper I needed to sign was at close, and mortgage company was stunned how little paperwork we had. Walked out of 30' closing with a USB drive with full docs. Bank transfer of inbound and outbound funds done in minutes, text from banker let me know. We didn't discuss anything about day to day life, or tweet, post, like, whatever. Just. Got. It. Done. That's how it works now, and if you don't do it now, you'll have to fairly soon. PS, 16 yo's don't even get drivers licenses much anymore, Bill. You can't hook an OBD2 up to a Mac, or a phone, or a tablet, and laptops don't sell. Only reason I keep a laptop around is to deal with tunes and uploads for the cars. Had to finally get Windows 10, XP-SP3 just too old. -
Local Hobby Shp vs. Mega-Store
keyser replied to CometMan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Small businesses that are competent and competitive within reason are absolutely worth my business. Full sticker on a kit, not responding to special order requests, or even letting customer know when new stuff or ordered stuff is in is just passing on a guaranteed sale, and repeat business. Any idiot can sell me one kit. A businessman plans on the next few sales, the relationship. RIP, there have been a few great guys with shops that I enjoyed relationships for years. Currently, there are local shops that have refused repeated attempts to develop relationships, while whining to "hangers-on" in shop how bad business is. Pathetic. Just spent serious $$ with several local jobbers on a huge remodel, 2.5 months so far. Worst. Service. Ever. Countless wrong orders, unresponsiveness to calls, EM, visits. On one home, with contractor, and very straightforward orders without changes. 5 reorders on a 5 foot long hanging extension for a light. Just picked up latest (won't say last yet) effort just now. No "Sorry", here's a discount, or a spoken "Screw you". That latter mentality is what keeps big box in biz for easy stuff, and direct order for high end stuff. Doesn't matter product, or price. Lousy service is lousy service. Entitlement doesn't get my business. Relationship does. -

Considering smart phones are derided, as is "facespace", video gaming, and non-carburetted, non-V8, dual clutch/automatic, built after '85 cars by many, I'm thinking "Get off my lawn" is favorite phrase here. Room for everyone here, but shows are pretty polarized age-wise. Still amazing people here don't have smartphones, my 80yo mother-in-law and her friends all have them and use them for banking, commerce, photos, everything. Just weird the generation between them and the 50yo that HAS to use tech are such troglodytes. Then there's the hygiene problem at shows, sometimes evident in eBay purchases as well. Oops, gotta go, kids on the lawn again. -
Saw this yellow one on one of Albert W's show postings elsewhere. Woody based tool maybe? 114" wb, I'd guess panel is 134"? Could do 42, or 46, some other custom stuff. Marmon option would be fun, or Canadian Mercury trim. SD's and panels must do okay, AMT, Monogram have had the 40 and 55 in catalogs nearly continuously. I see more built 48 Chev SD's than sedan too. Could maybe use to correct '40 SD too, though I love that kit flaws and all. Sorry, went kinda nuts finding pics, not one I'd kick out of garage.

Yessir. I got my FXX, and LaF from HLJ, but they have zip on the FXX-K. The add-ons are so cheap its silly to pass. even with freight it'll be $20-25 less than US. -

Here's a built 308 by Eric Cole from another board. Pretty nice kit, and I had a 1:1 to compare. -

Never ordered from HE. Which shipping option best? I'm good with HLJ shipping options, but varies in HK vs JP to US. I hate too many choices, just want trackable, insured, not buried in customs, and sooner than a month. -

Awesome response from Bob. Pretty fun insight into kits that are similar in nature to the snaps of the '15 Mustang, Ford, GT, Raptor, etc. Have to pay the bills, and the investors. The 308 GTB was in same time frame, it was molded as an early carbureted pre-S car. The plastic axles but decent interiors and looks were awesome. Great post, thanks for sharing that. Nice of him to take the time to recall and write it up. -

He can underwrite the software!! Comedy gold, brudda -
The old chrome is amazing, early issue 31 Cadillacs are blinding. When the older kits need rechroming due to whatever reason, it's a bear to get all the clear coat off the pieces too. Probably why it holds up so nicely.

That chassis and turbo was in the 69 Convert and 71 Impala I bought in 69 and 71. Chassis was in 68 coupe I had too. Lousy detail, but paint and time goes a long way. Better valve covers too. Bodies, on the other hand, were really nice. Wished they did the 74 Sport Coupe, I never liked the 74-76 roof. Wish the 70 Impala convertible would reappear, and the 71 Convertible promo tooling. Great curbside, or worth tweaking into a modified detail kit, albeit simple.

The F100 is pretty amazing truck, and Sam Foose did some of that too. The Eldorod is less timeless, and iconic, so I'd agree Casey. Still, if chassis is nice, no reason a different body couldn't appear on the chassis. Revell has done designer kits forever, you forgot the Buttera T and the tub and delivery variants (We all should forget the 33-34 thing on same chassis save for a parts donor). That was in '76? Honest to god, that's 40 friggin' years ago? You said 20. Geez. I agree that these kits will be parts goldmines, as well as a nice build. The truck is a big window 56, and not very cut up, mostly hood section. Since the other 56 is an ancient relic, there's a huge upside, and market. You can't tell me this thing isn't cool.

If somebody buys a restored or original car, has their name on the title, they can do whatever they want with it. Period. It's a LOT less work to start out with good metal or someone else's restored metal. Clones proliferated as it's easy to find a bottom of the line Mustang, Camaro, whatever, and build a decent car out of it. Their money, their dream, their life. Life's too short to be annoyed by other's dreams.

No airbags? Bury it in sand Agree, just needs tweaking. Drop it a bit, fiddle the cowl, and use lower profile skinnies. There's a cool Surf Hearse built by Mr. Core on here somewhere. Roadster has a ton of potential for a track roadster/rod.
-
The original issue mags are same, I guess representing a ballpeened look, or a raw metal finish. I don't think it's quite true to 1:1, but I've never looked too hard at the wheels. Looks like a great re-issue. It actually builds 3 versions; the roadster, which is quite cool, has an XR6 vibe; the Surf Woody; and the Surf Hearse. Tons of parts. I'd not seen that drawing with the blower intake, love it. I have parts like that somewhere, maybe the 65 Grand Prix had intake like that? Neither kit at hand, but GP reissued recently too. The old reissues were decent, I've got some of them for parts and all 3 versions. I had the parts to match them to original in parts bins. Guess I need this one too. Quick googlage found this pic. Rims shiny, centers shiny but a little less so? Looking for bigger pic, but I'd not seen this pic this size. Box pic not great on original IIRC.
