Model car box top art MEGATHREAD
peekay replied to Stef's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Enjoyed that a lot and will look in regularly - thank-you! I suppose it's too late and would be too much work but I've always been interested in the sides and ends of kit boxes too. -
Around 1995 Italeri announced a Jaguar XJ6/12 in magazine adds. My patience is running out.

I never got KISS - too intellectual for me.

Why are builders using the term kit bashing?
peekay replied to greymack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Strictly speaking, yes. But assembled 1:1 kit-cars like the Chaterham are still known as kit-cars after they've been assembled. This distinguishes them from factory built cars and owner/builders are rightly proud of the difference. For the same reason I often refer to my built models as model kits, rightly or wrongly. It's the easiest way to make it clear that when I bought them they were in pieces. Kit-bashing: I always thought the word "bash" in this context referred to the fact that the donor kit had taken a "hit" - in that it was no longer complete, in many cases no longer able to be built as originally intended. -
Family interest in models?

Among my family and friends there isn't a single person who is the slightest bit interested in model cars. -
AMT 63 Corvette Prestige
peekay replied to CrazyGirl's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm certainly not a Corvette expert but I would also suggest the Revell 67. These are state-of-the-art 90's tooling and better in many ways than the AMT 63. BTW Revell made subtle corrections to the coupe which make it more accurate than the convertible. (AMT's Prestige series are actually just re-issues of mid 60's kits with a lot of extra junk thrown in - eg, a large display base with pen-holder, some chrome foil etc. Not bad kits but but don't be mislead by the "prestige" moniker.) -
I agree with all of the above. Fine work throughout and the wires really set it apart. Best build of this kit I've ever seen.

Buy this kit and don't even take the cellophane off. It's one of the nicest boxes ever produced and will look great on any shelf as is.

Nice score, Anne, and an impressive collection. I bought a '68 ES335 new in 1969 but it got stolen out of our tour bus only 6 months later. Best guitar I ever owned. Currently I have 4 guitars (and 3 amps) and I fully understand the "need" for more. I play regularly with a guy who has 26!

Very nice! A friend had a real one and delighted in showing everyone how he didn't have to pay at a parking building - he could drive under the closed barrier.

WEATHERING CIVILIAN VEHICLES BOOK
peekay replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know what you mean but I find it useful in one way - it helps me avoid military models! -
Amazing! So simple at a first glance and yet so intricate and detailed. Fantastic work.

New Retro E-Type Jaguar design.
peekay replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Casey, this is the one area where I have to agree with you and the only thing I would change on the car. I've often wondered if this would be a simple fix. -
Thanks for the above invitation to enjoy "Rusty Peg". Well at least I tried.....

New Retro E-Type Jaguar design.
peekay replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think this is the first time I've ever heard ANY criticism of the original E-Type's design. And I don't remember thin tyres and spoked wheels looking old fashioned in 1961. I always loved the whole package. -
Wow! Nice work - always liked the 61s.

Great cars, great photos - thanks for posting! -
Another beautiful and unusual wagon from you - never seen one built before.

The closer you get to finishing a model the more the Murphys come visiting. I've learned never to say to myself "today I'll wrap this one up" - it's asking for trouble.

Nice work Brett - chopped and lowered and with that colour scheme it looks real mean.

Beautiful clean work - always enjoy watching your wips. I spent a lot of time in Minis in the 60's and that interior is pure nostalgia.

Btw, what are theese "vinyl-tire damages"??
peekay replied to JAFFA's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, I've been doing that for many years now to good effect. DON'T try it with glad-wrap (clear kitchen foil) though! It will put permanent blotches on chrome and clear parts. -
I've bought about 100 kits from US online sites in the last 15 years and average postage cost (without insurance or tracking) was $12. Now it's $26 so I simply don't buy kits anymore. (A new US kit in Switzerland now costs $45 if you can find one). The Swiss Post Office no longer offers uninsured package delivery which effectively more than doubled prices so I can no longer trade either. I traded some tyres with a guy last year, unaware of the price-hike. He sent his in a small box so I did the same. He paid $4.50 postage, I paid $18. Plus he had to wait more than 3 weeks. BTW - All those 100 kits got to me unscathed so, in my opinion, insurance and tracking are really NOT worth the exhorbitant extra cost.
