  1. Very nice work! One of the nicest kits ever produced IMO.
  2. You Americans don't know how lucky you are! Testors and Bondo are unavailable in Europe. Here in Switzerland Supermarkets/discounters/hobby chains etc don't have model stuff. You have to go to one of the few remaining model specialists where a can of Tamiya spray costs $12 and a new AMT or US Revell car kit, if they have one, is $45.) And the very idea of a 40% coupon would give the average retailer a heart attack.
  3. Very nicely done! Great work on the grille transformation. My wife had one just like it in New Zealand.
  4. Studied Grafic Design in the late 60s but spent most of the 70s on the road in NZ in rock bands - best job I ever had. Came to Switzerland in 1981 and kind of lost the plot. A series of more or less dead-end jobs until a major health blow 3 years ago. I've been in early retirement since then, minus one lung, but doing fine and enjoying life.

You got everything just right and with just enough custom touches to set it apart. Beautiful paint! Wish I could find such fine metallic paint in Europe.
  6. I enjoy my daily coffee intake too but.... ....I find it's not the best thing before a BMF or fine detail paint session, anything where I need a really steady hand.
  7. I had great success with the AMT pre-dec Edsel and it doesn't look at all out of place next to my other models. I used BMF, detail paint, engine wiring, polish etc. And I've always got a promo or three that I'm refining - or ruining, depending on your point of view..
  8. You really have over-the-top modeling skills. What's your method for applying clear so beautifully - or have you described this elsewhere? I think you didn't even have to polish it (or did I miss that part?).
  9. That's really nice! Great colour choices.
  10. Wonderful! Every Englishman I know is a part-time comedian.
  11. I wish AMT would fix their 58 Plymouth or re-do it as a 4-door sedan/police car/taxi. And then turn the 300C into a 57 De Soto, preferably a Fireflite.
  12. Good words Art and Chuck. Looks like there will always be "the necessity of a human touch". I guess it depends on the human who's doing the touching. Also, I personally would rather pay a premium for a model that looks right and assembles well straight out of the box. Those are my two basic expectations of a kit. I have a relatively tight hobby budget but I can be inticed to open my wallet wider than comfortable if the manufacturer routinely gets those basics right.
  13. "It's just a hobby"? As Bill said, his comments are directed more at the manufacturers and for them it's NOT a hobby. It's their bread and butter and their reputations are at stake. I sometimes wonder why Japanese kits tend to be superior. I have family ties to Japan and I've come to the conclusion that the Japanese simply put more care into their work. You can see and feel that when you open a Japanese kit. Unfortunately I'm a fan of American and European cars.
  14. I'll second the 57-59 De Soto but I suspect my company would then go bankrupt.
  15. I like Bo Zolland's design too but Jaguar decided after the S-type to abandon the retro route. Zolland's car, or something similar, would have been a great redesign of the E-type in 1975 and provided the platform for further design continuity a-la Porsche 911. Instead we got the XJ-S.
  16. I couldn't agree more. If the article hadn't mentioned Jaguar anywhere I'd have guessed it was an updated Honda. But the original E-Type was probably the hardest act to follow in automotive history.
  17. Great review, beautiful build! I like.
  18. Beautiful paint! Red, isn't it?
  19. I think the abbreviation "pro" can also be used to mean simply very good or efficient at something without necessarily having anything to do with income. (As in "My 12 year old scored another goal today. He's a real pro").
  20. Tomy from Japan made a very fine 300SL but it's in 1:32nd scale. I also have their Jaguar SS100 in the same scale and they're probably the most refined kits I've ever seen in any scale.

    Acid Bubble

I once went for a walk in a forest that looked like that. It was around 1968....
  22. Wonderful! Great paint and that subtle lettering says "skill" very loudly.
  23. Even nicer than the white one that got wrecked and they're already rare in this neck of the woods.
