  1. I know two people that have similar "collections". I totally don't understand what the purpose is, if they were activly building/repairing/swaping that's one thing. But to just let cars & parts sit & rot away makes no sense. I look at it all, shake my head and walk away. Maybe it's the guy version of the crazy cat lady.
  2. A real surprise, in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer there is a front page story about this shop closing. Nice that someone noticed the loss of a hobby shop.
  3. Revell bought the Renwal tooling years ago, that's why we still have the engine. Don't know if the Visible Chassis still exists or not. It would probably be a big gamble for them to reissue it. That's a LOT of plastic. Like Andy said unbuilt originals go for serious money. I sold one in the '80s for a fraction of what they are going for now, sigh.
  4. Wings hobby shop in Lakewood,OH (Cleveland) is closing. They were a true full service shop, plastic kits of every kind, large railroad section, books, magazines, tools & building supplies, even a craft/toy area. It even looks like a hobby shop should look. Housed in an older slightly worn building with an eclectic group of neighbor shops. They have been owned by the same family & in the same location for 50 plus years. A sad day for sure.

  7. Why don't you just contact Modelhaus ? By email or phone I have found them very helpful with questions.
  8. Plus I know for a fact setting up at Toledo costs a small fraction of what one of the trade shows would cost.
  9. Wow, talk about a barn find. We are so lucky that the right person stumbled across that stuff.
  10. Well said Tom, I'm trying to figure out how do we track the younger folks down & get them involved with what we are doing ? I'd be thrilled if 10 or 20 guys without grey hair showed up at the Toledo NNL this fall.
  11. Unfortunately the most of the youth who followed us have little interest in model building.
  12. I thought that posting by Moebius was very interesting. Just like Revell introducing kits at the Toledo Toy Show instead of iHobby. I suspect the check they have to write is quite substantial. For better or worse the internet may make that type of show obsolete & not just in toys as every industry has something similar.
  13. Everyone has brought up very good points here, in my mind the biggest change since I started building in '68-'69 is that the hobby is almost totally an adult thing now. Then it was almost exclusively a child/ youth pastime. That change has enabled many of the other changes. The aftermarket & such, as adults mostly have more disposable income than a twelve year old.
  14. I talked to these gentlemen at the Columbus IPMS show yesterday. They currently have the Stutz Blackhawk, '26-'28 Miller, '98 ? Dallera, a couple wheel/tire sets, & a couple decal sets. Art they also have the Offy engine kit. It sounds like they have ambitious plans for the other Etzel kits & new kits of their own. The quality of their casting is as good as Etzel's was. They don't have a web site yet but one is in the works. Contact info, American Racing Miniatures@gmail.com, P.O. Box 96 Round Hill, VA. 20142. Their names are Ed Mautner & Tom Faletti.
  15. Wow this is really good news. I have a couple of his kits unbuilt & a couple built. Now I'll get to fill in the missing ones.
  16. Here in Ohio there used to be new plates every year. Since maybe the mid '80s or so it's the same as Michigan you can keep the plate as long as it's legible with a new color sticker every year. The state changes the design every few years, so right now you regularly see three different ones. Also here the plate belongs with the owner not the car, so whenever a car is sold it gets new plates & you can transfer the plates from your old car to your new car. Ohio has historical vehicle plates if the car is over 25 years & not used as daily transportation . Just to make it a bit more complicated on a vintage car if you can find an old set of plates from the year of the vehicle you can register & display them on the car. Example, find a set of 1966 plates for your '66 Mustang & you can use them. In any case each of the 50 states have their own regulations. I'm sure many are similar to my state of Ohio, I'm also sure there are many differences.
  17. I have the Premier Studebakers found them at a toy show in Columbus about 1990. My first build circa 1965 was one of them. Multi piece bodies really crappy tooling but the nostalgia of looking at them is just too cool. Every once in a while I think I should build them but can't bring myself to do it.
  18. I with everyone else on this, pay pal & fancy web sites are nice but quality product & service are what counts. MCW, Modelhaus, Replicas & Miniatures prove that day in & day out.
  19. Well as of a couple days ago she was still selling R & R kits on ebay. Maybe old stock she still had ?
  20. There were people recasting some of Ron Cash's stuff while he was alive & still in business ! He figured it wasn't worth the time & money to chase them down over a few $30 bodies.
  21. That's some serious mud, makes you appreciate solid pavement.
  22. Started kindergarten in '62, my dad as an eight year old did attend the 1939 Worlds Fair.
  23. Well I'm not getting into a pissing match but my Mike's Studebaker is a bullet nose '50, R&R made a a '52 convertable. Distinctly different front sheet metal. I have been hearing about the Missing Link Chevy for a couple years, I'll believe it when I see it. But I will be very happy when it arrives.
