AMT Fred Lorenzen '65 Ford Galaxie 500XL
Rob Hall replied to mmdm4's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looks like it's showing as 'Just Arrived' at MR today. I ordered one, I have the original annual, the 'Crusin USA' issue (built that as a kid in the early 80s as a street machine), and the '90s issue w/ the brown car on the box..will be nice to have another, always liked this kit. -
Got a few eBaY goodies in the mail yesterday--some resin Minilite and Hurricane wheels, an unbuilt '80s issue MPC '71 Road Runner, and my 2nd Revell '70 Hemi Cuda.

Yeah...it's my sister's old money pit...I drove it for a couple years when I first moved out here...she has a clean '91 300CE also. The problem with those cars is repairs seemed to usually run $2500-4000. I've sworn off dealing with old cars, too many headaches.

No rust, but over 200k miles...lots of problems..basically a 5000lb paperweight. Eventually it will go when I move.

Cool Hudson... -
Those are nice wheels.....my old W126 ('84 500SEL) has the stock 14 inch wheels, albeit chromed (parked in my back carport, hasn't been driven in 4 years, but still starts.

The Mustang wheelbase is a better match, 108.x vs 109.x. The '66 Fairlane 2dr wheelbase is like 116 I think....

The AMT Mustangs have an incorrect engine compartment also, IIRC w/ the rounded wheel liners. Probably best to glue the hood shut and do it annual style..

What I can't recall about the later issues is if they had much in the way of an engine compartment...inner fenders, radiator, firewall, etc? I have one of '90s issue '61 Rancheros but never built it..don't recall what's under the hood besides a Chevy engine, which makes no sense in a Ford.

IIRC, I read somewhere that the engine originated in the AMT '66 Impala annual, a 396. I'm only familiar w/ the release of the Ranchero from the '90s, have no idea what release that engine was added to the kit. Not familiar w/ the original, I assume it may have been a curbside like the '61 Falcon annual was?

Still has a Chevy engine, though, like the last issue of the '61, I presume...that was a weird kit.

I doubt if very many people even notice, though.

1957 Dodge - - Finished - - Class of '57 - Entry #2

The factory yellow seems to be lighter/softer, less of a bileous green-yellow that the Model Master paint appears to be.. -
Apparently, they were...according to Wikipedia-- U.S. Navy and Marine Corps SBDs saw their first action at Pearl Harbor. A total of 18 SBDs from the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise arrived over Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack, and Scouting Squadron Six (VS-6) lost six aircraft, while Bombing Squadron Six (VB-6) lost one. Most of the Marine Corps SBDs of Marine Scout Bombing Squadron 232 (VMSB-232) were destroyed on the ground at Ewa Mooring Mast Field. On 10 December 1941, SBDs from the Enterprise sank the Japanese submarine I-70.

Guess 'they' must not have much footage of Japanese planes dropping bombs at Pearl Harbor so they use random stock footage. I was at Pearl Harbor and visited the Arizona Memorial on the 65th anniversary a few years ago, quite an interesting place.

Hmm..don't know of one...I take pics w/ my phones and directly upload to Fotki or Facebook.. don't think I've copied any from the iPhone to my Macs or my Windows laptops. I use iTunes to organize all my music on my iPod and also stream through Google Play...never put any music on my phones, though.

Watching the Mecum KC auctions on Velocity just saw a couple of '70 440 6 pack Cudas...one pink w/ a black shaker scoop (car was a replica) and a strange orange one w/ a black shaker scoop mounted on the outside of the hood--when the hood opened, the scoop raised with it..very strange. Both had black rear wings, of different styles--one with turned down tips (like on the Monogram '71 kits) and the other more of a flat slab (on the orange car). Lots of pics at the links below, but not sure how accurate they are. Here's the orange w/ the funny 'shaker' scoop.. http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=KC1213-169787&entryRow=196 and the pink one http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=KC1213-169794&entryRow=196

Very sharp build. I have yet to build any modern F1 cars, will have to get one sooner or later...the most recent one in my stash is Senna's '94 Williams.

Anyone else see this?

The new one that generated so much buzz a while back about the inaccurate body.

Fun...beautiful build..the power to weight ratio on those Pinto P/S cars must have been unreal...
