Building the Revell 1950 Oldsmobile - We're Finished! 10/30/12
Rob Hall replied to Len Carsner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking very good so far.. -
I haven't tried, but you would have to cut the ridge off probably...
-
They are very narrow...not wide enough for a Pro-Touring style car like this.
-
These are the wheels & tires. The stock and drag wheels and tires from the regular kit are gone. The parts trees look the same as the regular kit at first glance otherwise..
-
Nope..this is not a 2n1 kit. The stock and drag wheel & tire choices of the regular kit are gone. Many of the drag parts (hood w/ hole, blower) remain on the trees, though.
-
It's a pretty cynical approach Revell has taken, assuming most model builders won't notice or care how off it is from the real subject...
-
In marketing speak, it was something like 'brand synergy' for Revell to link up w/ Foose.. At least the kits are semi-representative of a real car, unlike other kits that have been tied to a TV series but never appeared in the series..

Sweet...love the subject and the execution so far looks great. -
'73 Chevrolet Chevelle- Mastered by Tom Ellifritt
Rob Hall replied to W-409's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Agreed. -
Quaint. I like big wheels and tires, but Revell executed these poorly. The tires are very narrow, the wheels slightly resemble the ones on the box art.
-
I guess Revell thought they could push more product w/ a dubious tie-in to Foose instead of marking it as another of their 'California Wheels' or 'Motor City Muscle' series kits...which are the same idea--big wheels and tires, different decals sometimes. Kind of like the kits AMT retooled with junky wheels/tires as 'Boyd Coddington' and 'Rides' kits about 10 years ago...
-
A couple others AMT goofed about 10 years ago IIRC was a reissue of the '76 Nova street machine that showed a stock Nova on the box and a '69 Charger Daytona--both showed builds on the boxes w/ wheels that weren't included in the kit.
-
The box art shows an illustration of a lowered car...if the kit doesn't include the parts to do that, then that's misleading..not to mention the tires are pathetic, as narrow as motorcycle tires. Why? There should be legitimate criticism here..this isn't a Revell rah-rah site.

The oldest of my own is the Revell '56 Chevy 210 'Bad Dream' issue I built at age 7 in 1977. I've got some builtups I've bought used that are older--with the oldest being an original issue AMT '58 Edsel.

Your college years
Rob Hall replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Moved from HS in S. Florida back home to Ohio and did my undergrad at Kent State ('88-92) majoring in Computer Science w/a minor in Mathematics. Had an enjoyable 4 years overall...did my masters in CS at Kent '92-94. Enjoyed on- and off-campus life in NE Ohio, remember going to the Flats in Cleveland w/ friends pretty often for the weekend nightlife. I then moved to Ann Arbor, Mi for 3 years to pursue a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering at the U. of Michigan. In June '97 when I decided to leave academia and go corporate (leaving grad school ABD) and moved to Colorado. At Kent, I had a 4cyl '86 Mustang LX for my college car, which I ran snow tires on in the lovely NE Ohio winters. It got totalled two weeks after I moved to Ann Arbor, so I switched to an '88 Bronco II 4x4 that I drove through my Michigan years. I kept my '87 Mustang GT stored at home in Ohio and mostly drove it during the summers. -
Picked up the Revell '50 Olds and '68 Firebird Foose yesterday at my LHS. The wheels/tires of the Firebird are dissapointing, but I'll probably use some Pegasus wheels and tires on it and the engine from a Revell '10 Camaro SS. Main thing interesting about the kit are the decals.

That the box art is mostly artist's illustrations with a couple tiny photos of a built kit on the side is a good indicator that all is not right... oh well...the '68 Firebird is a nice kit, but this version doesn't really add much extra of value.

Perhaps those parts are for the next variation of the kit in 2013? -
Any pictures of the wheels on the chrome tree? From the box art pic it looks like the usual tires seen on the California Wheels/Motor City Muscle kits...

Dorms at universities have been the norm in the US for probably over 100 years...you've saying the UK doesn't have multi-person dorm rooms at their universities? Really? I thought the UK today was a surveillance society w/ surveillance cameras everywhere...at least that's how it seems to be in London. Big Brother is always watching...

Looks good so far. So the J2 tri-power parts aren't there? Maybe Revell is saving those for the 2nd version... -
