It will be interesting to see what happens... I follow both series today..the TV coverage could stand to improve. I'd like to go to one of the big 12- or 24- events, but need to train to get in shape for it...going to 2-3 hour races is exhausting enough. I try and follow Nationwide, NASCAR, F1, Indy Car, Grand Am, and ALMS....I've loosely followed V8 Supercars, WRC, DTM and World Tour Cars but the US TV coverage is nonexistent or very weak for those series.. I've managed to go to 4 races so far this year (NASCAR here in Phoenix, Indy Car at Long Beach, Indianapolis, and Sonoma) and have 2 more to go this year (Indy Car at Fontana, NASCAR at Phoenix again). I hope to get in F1, and a Grand Am or ALMS race next year.

I think I have Michaels and Hobby Lobby stores around, but since I have good hobby shops and also shop online I haven't had a reason to go in one.. -

Beautiful build...the photography is great also, looks like a real car.. -
Been away on vacation over the last week, but did get a few neat oldies off eBay...Johan '71 Maverick Grabber Pro Stock (built, restorable), mostly unbuilt Johan '67 Cadillac Coupe de Ville (I had a convertible already, been looking for a coupe for a while), and an Italeri Ferrari 275 GTB (I had the Spyder, been looking for the coupe for probably 20 years).

Picked up the sweet new Ebbro 1970 Lotus 72C (Jochen Rindt, Gold Leaf livery)...I love the tires--pre-printed Goodyears w/ gold stripe. From eBay, got in the mail a relatively complete, restorable Jo-han '70 Maverick (w/ the stock parts)..

Revell '50 Oldsmobile Club Coupe 2'n1
Rob Hall replied to styromaniac's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I wonder if there is more to the 2nd version than just decals. I'm surprised they didn't do a period street rod version w/ different wheels and tires, vintage engine speed parts at the least.. -
I think he passed away about 5 years ago.
-
It was released by itself in the '70s in the Street Rods series, like the Victoria and 5 window coupe. Neat kit.

Grand Prix the Killer Years
Rob Hall replied to 935k3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw on it on Velocity a while back..excellent documentary. What an incredible era of racing...long before my time, but I find the drivers, cars and tracks of F1 and sports car racing of that era fascinating.. -
Beautiful detail work...love those cars, saw a few of the 1:1s up close last year.

Which kit is this 1970 Monte Carlo?
Rob Hall replied to Nick Winter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sounds like the original issue AMT Motor City Stocker Series MC.... I have one, it has the fender skirts and doesn't have an engine..can't recall if the hood opens or not. The AMT '71 annual I have is a full detail kit. -
R&R, I think...I've seen them at shows and on eBay..wouldn't mind getting one myself, build it stock. It's based on a real vehicle, there is a black one pictured in an article in Collectible Automobile some years ago..

the one that got away.....

I still miss my '96 BMW M3 that I had from '98-07. Wouldn't mind having another M3, but probably a later E46 version. As far as cars I didn't buy but regretted not buying, I looked at a very clean '93 Mustang Cobra back in '98 and passed on it, then got the BMW. I've had an interesting past w/ Mustangs...I still have my '87 Mustang GT that I got new in high school (though it's in storage now), I had an '86 Mustang LX 2.3 in college (quite a slug w/ a 4cyl), and inherited my Dad's '69 Mustang Sportsroof (351W 4bbl, auto)..it's in storage w/ the '87 in Ohio. I'd like to have a '08 Bullitt and a '12 Boss 302 eventually. -
Looking good...good choice on that yellow.

A real old build 1970 Cadillac Eldorado from 20 years ago

I'd love to see a 1:25th scale Mark III kitted or in resin. I'd also like to see a '70-73 Continental sedan or coupe. Love the Lincolns of that era. I have a neat little Lindberg Mark III (1:64th scale, I think?). -
'73 Chevrolet Chevelle- Mastered by Tom Ellifritt
Rob Hall replied to W-409's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
IIRC, F&F Resin did one of those maybe 10 years ago, never seen one in person, though. Googling turned up a pic, appears to be a '75.. -
The current C6 Corvette is smaller and lighter than it's predecessor (C5) and it's a bit shorter than the 911. The Camaro is about 3 inches shorter than the 4th gen was. I like the size and looks of the Camaro quite a bit, find it hard to see out of, though. It's still a pretty cool car, IMO. I don't get the 'big' argument, it's smaller than the Challenger. As far as Corvette powertrains, I've read the C7 will have the new 5th gen SBC, approx. 5.5 litres. GM is developing a twin turbo V6 (based on the DI 3.6) for the upcoming Caddy ATS V series, I've read. Autoblog has some spy pics of diguised C7 mules.. http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-corvette-c7-prototype-spy-shots/#photo-4762123/

I love Stock, Super Stock, & Pro Stock
Rob Hall replied to Old Coyote's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Cool...I love the look of the Grumpy's Camaro and Vega....and the Cudas. -
Not familiar w/ that one...I've always avoided the Monogram 1/24th '69 Camaro....

About the only thing I can think of were some of the MPC 3rd gen Firebird (and maybe Camaro) kits in the 80s that came w/ turbo options for V8s, but they were kind of cheesy...

Don't know how realistic these images are, but it would be interesting to see a C-pillar window...the Corvette coupe C-pillar hasn't changed much since the big rear window was added to the C3 in '78.

Rob Hall replied to W-409's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Meh...that Laguna body looks less detailed than the old MPC race car body, no door handles, marker lights or other detail. -
Yeah, I went several times to the Toledo show between 1990 and 1996...the selection of aftermarket parts, kit parts, old kits, old diecast etc in the vendor area was incredible....
