What? No April Fools Humor Today?
Rob Hall replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting idea...a 'Tan Hell', I guess...because it's all ugly beige deserty around LV...not lush and green like Germany. -
Not a Phoenix thing, but I have seen a lot of drivers here that have trouble centering their vehicles within a parking space--esp. full size trucks...seen a lot of sloppy parkers that have a rear wheel of their vehicle on the line or across the line, way too close to the next vehicle or wasting a space..grrr. One thing I'm glad w/ summer approaching is that I have underground parking at my current job...hated the times I've had to do street parking in downtown Scottsdale (last year) or out in the burbs in a large sun-baked corporate parking lot...

What? No April Fools Humor Today?
Rob Hall replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The best ones I've seen today were the Google Racing announcement (autonomous driverless car for NASCAR) and the Danica Patrick 5 yr $100m contract w/ Steward-Haas announcement... -
Got an extra Jo-Han '64 Polara ht last week, looks like this week I should receive the Revell '64 Corvette GS (my preorder has shipped) a couple Mobieus Chryslers, and the AMT '65 Chevelle wagon reissue...

Facebook affects
Rob Hall replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been on FB about 4 years now, since my 20th HS reunion. It's fun, mostly use it stay to connected w/ people I've known in real life over the years (hs, college, grad school, various jobs, etc). Some people take it way too seriously and spend way too much time there, but that's an issue w/ social networking in general. It's a great site for photos..I've enjoyed a variety of racing photo galleries, and pages like Motorsport Retro, the pages for various magazines, etc.. -
IIRC, PSF Hobbies made/makes an outlaw hood for the Revell '69. I got one off eBay a few years ago...

1989 honda civic 4 door ? (EF sedan)
Rob Hall replied to Rlopez209's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The Hasegawa kits are the '92-95 5th gen Civic...I don't think I've ever seen a kit of the '88-91 4th gen in any bodystyle. -

Mine came yesterday..haven't had a chance to do much besides skim through...will check it out this weekend. -
Very sharp...I like the realistic weathering..

Bought my first MPC kit today...
Rob Hall replied to trey allen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, I have a couple of those--the Indy cars...another great high-detail MPC kit is the Ford GT40 MKIV...I have a couple of those. -

Rob Hall replied to trey allen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a few.. Those pics are over 10 years old, they all went into storage when I moved in '02. Good question...I seem to remember an AMT snap kit version also. Maybe the one I have an AMT rebox of the MPC--it's an issue from the '90s, IIRC. -
Nice Johans...I have one each of those except for the '64 Polara, have 3 of those.

Rob Hall replied to trey allen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't remember the MPC 280ZX...I have the AMT one from that era. I like the MPC Supra. I have loads of MPC kits in my stash from '64-88, original issues and reissues...I esp. like their '68-76 full size Chevys, '60s-70s Pontiacs, and Mopies... -
Sharp build...I had forgotten one of my former employers was a Williams sponsor back then...

This would be an interesting subject for Moebius, but the one-version nature of the subject would probably limit it's potential... -
1/25 Moebius Tim Flock Hudson Hornet
Rob Hall replied to MicroNitro's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I preordered one through Model Roundup, where I got my Hudson race car kit. Looks like the regular 300 kit is out very soon.. -
Dodge Monaco round headlights
Rob Hall replied to 57peppershaker's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
It does...but with round lights, it can be back-dated to appear like a '75-76 Coronet (though the Coronet grille differs from the '77-78 Monaco grille). With the round lights and Plymouth grille, a '75-76 Fury can be made.. -
Buying kits from Japan
Rob Hall replied to Kit Basher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've used SAL and EMS w/ HLJ, EMS on the two most recent orders...been about 2 weeks for EMS delivery. I switched to EMS after the last couple SAL orders arrived w/ the boxes pretty mangled. Will have to try FedEx, as they usually deliver late enough in the day that I'm home to sign for it. EMS arrives through the postal delivery and I end up stuck having to go to the PO on a Saturday to pick up the package (which an annoyance because of the lines and limited hours)..I hate going to the post office, since they closed the one that was about 1.5 miles away and I have to go to another one about 3 miles away.. -
Buying kits online?
Rob Hall replied to Action Jackson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting...I hadn't looked into Amazon for kits...and if it's stocked by Amazon and not one of their third party sellers, I could get kits w/ free shipping (I have Prime). -
Sharp build..have to build mine eventually also.

Ever have a real head-scratcher?...
Rob Hall replied to Scuderia's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do have quite a few..mostly bought over the last 15 years..unbuilt new and old, old restorable kits, etc. I do try and keep good records of what I have, where they are stored (in 3 states), etc...I do plan to build them all eventually...my current build rate is pretty slow, though. -
Buying kits from Japan
Rob Hall replied to Kit Basher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've used Hobby Link Japan for years, used Hobby Search and an eBay seller tokyo-hobby occasionally. With HLJ, I use PayPal...my last order from them earlier this month took about 2 weeks to get..the only annoyance was having to go to the post office to sign for the package. -
Buying kits online?
Rob Hall replied to Action Jackson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use eBay (I've been using it successfully for 15 years to buy mostly vintage kits, but some newer ones), Model Roundup, Model Express, Hobby Link Japan...I don't use Craigslist, never looked for models on there. -
Neat...never heard of that series.

Ever have a real head-scratcher?...
Rob Hall replied to Scuderia's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a few kits that I didn't necessarily want but ended up with because I bought a group of kits as a lot (haven't done that in a while, though). As far as forgetting why I bought a kit or what I wanted it for (parts, a specific style of build, etc) I always put a note in as to what my intent for the kit is when I enter it into the spreadsheet and assign the tracking number.
