How Technologically Savvy Are You?
Rob Hall replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It is amazing how much I see people on their phones in a typical day....my office is on the ASU campus in downtown Tempe..when I walk to lunch, everyone seems to be walking around playing w/ their phones, same thing in Starbucks, same in the restaurants...not just college kids, but a wide age range I've noticed. I'll check my email or Twitter while I'm waiting on a meal to come out, but I can keep the phone in my pocket when I'm walking... I've had people almost walk into my car when I have the right of way at intersections because they walk out in the street oblivious to their surroundings... -
How Technologically Savvy Are You?
Rob Hall replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't that's necessarily a technology thing..I don't remember people saying those kinds of formal niceties in daily life when I was growing up (I'm 41). -
Modelhaus 1964 Dodge D100 Pickup
Rob Hall replied to Terry Jessee's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Sounds like the buckets w/ console are only included for the CSS version. Modelhaus' low level and mid level versions have bench seats. Was the CSS the first US pickup w/ bucket seats? Must be pretty rare..never seen a truck from the '60s w/ them... -
There is some passing, but not much...nothing compared to how it was 20-30 years ago. The races just seem so dull today, and the cars are long and ugly w/ tall noses. I know it's a lot safer, but the '80s were more fun to watch, IMO.. I like the classic European tracks, Montreal, Suzuka, Australia...most of the new Asian/Middle East tracks are pretty dull to watch, IMO...I particularly dislike the Singapore track..too much concrete.

The 100th was quite the event.. I want to go again..it's pretty incredible. I haven't been to Laguna Seca for a race, but went to it last year for the Porsche Rennsport Reunion...planning to go to the Rolex Reunion/Monterey Historics this year.

I'm looking forward to the '12 Indy Car season...went to 3 races last year (Long Beach, Indy 500, Sonoma) will probably go to a couple this year..

Probably nothing for me until the end of the month/early next month....awaiting the Revell '10 Camaro SS release and the Audi R8 Spyder.

Well, the lack of a US race and American drivers is certainly part of the problem why more people in the US don't follow it. I've been watching since the late '70s. One problem w/ F1 today is it seems the pole sitter usually wins...the dull Tilke tracks make overtaking difficult. I don't care for the artificiality of DRS either.

I haven't bought it yet...it's over $50 on HLJ....probably will be that much or more at the LHS if they get it....I still haven't built the Gallardo and Murcielago kits I bought several years ago...

Yes, this year's was very exciting..I've been a Stewart fan since his Indy Car days..it was nice to see one of the 'old guys' win...

Having watched her in Indy Car series for years, I tend to agree...more hype than substance w/ Danica as a driver IMO. One thing I'm still not sure if I like is the Chase.

Well, the Malibu and Impala seem like the only plausible models...and the next-generation Impala is not in production currently (the new '13 Malibu just started production recently). Basically, the NG Impala will be a LWB Epsilon II model like the LaCrosse (the '13 Malibu is a SWB Epsilon II model like the Insignia/Regal). However, there are persistent rumors online from GM insiders of a limited production 'SS' sedan coming--basically a revival of the Pontiac G8/Holden Commodore sedan (distinct from the LWB Caprice PPV).

For the Feb race, I between turn 1 and turn 4, at the edge of 4.....for the Nov race, I was between 1&2 in about the middle....plan to probably sit there again for the March race... As far as the '13 Chevy race car, It will probably be the '14 Impala then...(or the rumored SS sedan).

Nice..less generic looking than the current COTs....I wonder what the Chevys will resemble for '13...the all-new '13 Malibu or wil they wait for all-new '14 Impala?

who makes the best impreza sti kit?
Rob Hall replied to MOPAR_KID96's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
IIRC, Aoshima is the only one doing the current generation but only in the hatchback body style. I have the Tamiya, Revell, and one of the Fujimis in my collection... -
To build or not, that is the question.
Rob Hall replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I plan to build all my unbuilts eventually...it's been over 20 years since I finished ever kit that I bought in a timely manner...plan to build them all eventually, even the 40+ yr old $200 MIB ones... -
Can't tell if this guy is being facetious or if he has such neanderthal views..

Rob Hall replied to MOPAR_KID96's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Depends on what vintage you want to build..the Tamiya is good, it's a 2002-2003 vintage IIRC. Fujimi has done a couple later ones, up through at least '07. -
Those are impressive, Tom..very life-like... I've toyed w/ the idea of combining a Dodge or Chevy van cab w/ the MPC camper MK reissue...

Modelhaus 1964 Dodge D100 Pickup
Rob Hall replied to Terry Jessee's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Looks like a nice kit...maybe they will do a later version eventually, I like the '70-71 front end better than the early '60s one.. -
I'd still like to see Revell tool up (even a curbside) Nomad version of their modern-tool '57, or how about a Safari?

Well, the guys stuck in past want everything to remain as it was in 1960 or 1970 or whatever their high point in time was...same with a lot of things, not just NASCAR. NASCAR like any another motorsport, needs to evolve but it's evolutionary pace is quite slow.. I went to the two races here in Phoenix last year, watched many of the races on TV, it's fun...I'm more of an Indy Car, F1, and road racing fan, but I've enjoyed NASCAR in recent years after not paying attention for a long time.. For a 'stock' car series, I'd love to see a US version of the V8 Supercars series...alas, it would be only Dodge and Chrysler....maybe Cadillac, since Ford and Chevy only have FWD generic sedans these days...

Odd to see someone trying to sell models on Craigslist..seems like eBay would be more appropriate. (though selling a large collection piece by piece on ebay takes a lot of work and time)...and why so many of each item...hoarding? It's not like those construction items really lend themselves to multiple variations or customizing...

The Future of the supercar.
Rob Hall replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For a supercar price-no-object my choice would be fairly down to earth--an '05-06 Ford GT. For a supercar I can afford now, I'd go for a '90s Acura NSX. Never heard of that Saleen SR..pretty ugly, IMO. As far as Mustangs, the '13 GT500 looks pretty interesting, but I'd rather have the Boss 302 Laguna Seca...saw several of each up close yesterday ('12s and '13s). For all out impractical fun, I'd really like to have an Ariel Atom.
