  1. I used to have a car that got over 50 mpg...a diesel Ford Escort. It also had a screaming 52 hp.
  2. Yeah, that's why his comment perplexed me...hadn't heard about a law regarding front seat passengers..
  3. Legal age for what? A driver's license at 13???
  4. My Jeep is like that...has shallow indents in the center and above the passenger side..not really deep enough to put a map or anything...
  5. I certaintly wouldn't try and store anything on top of the dash..that's what the arm rest compartment, glovebox, console cubbies, door panel pockets, etc are for....
  6. Well, I'm definitely in the techie camp. And I don't fit Junkman's stereotype. Honestly, I really don't care what the non-technical general public think.
  7. I like putting on the Live from Gdansk concert DVD and cranking it to 11..
  8. Yeah...in early '05, 1080p HDTVs were still uncommon... Probably my favorite guitar solo... Love that song. Lucky to have seen Gilmy play it live twice ('94 and '06).
  9. Yeah, you can go wild today on home theatre prices..sky is the limit...my system from the late '90s was around $2500 and my first HDTV was about $3500. A friend of mine put over $40k in his home theatre system a few years ago...
  10. MacIntosh is still around...the first car w/ a macIntosh system was the Ford GT in '05. I think Subaru has them also now.
  11. Cool... I've dabbled in audio, my gear is a mix of Sony ES and Yamaha...nothing too fancy, but more than adequate for home theater and blasting Pink Floyd.. A buddy of mine has a '60s vintage tuner w/ tubes..a Marantz IIRC, has a dial like an old time strip speedometer..he has some incredible Dunlavey 10-ft loudspeakers in his system.. Once I get a bigger house w/ a basement I want to build a dedicated home theatre room w/ a serious audiophile system.
  12. Another technology dead end...my folks' first VCR in '82..a Sony Betamax. Beta never really took off. We had Beta for years until we couldn't find anything on Beta..switched to VHS around '90. I remember just a few years ago the big debate about BluRay vs HD-DVD..I waited until BluRay won before I bought a BluRay player and am starting to buy BluRay discs, though I still have regular and multi-region DVD players... And with TVs, I remember the whole Plasma vs LCD vs DLP wars...I went w/ a DLP for my first HDTV in '05, have an LCD now, but LED came along and now OLED is the new hotness...sticking w/ my 55 inch LCD until I have enough room for an 80 inch or larger..
  13. My company is all Mac, which works well for most of the development tools and software we use day-to-day, but it's a pain w/ some of our clients, esp. those who like to use Microsoft Web Meeting for video conferencing... For home use, I've been Mac and Windows for years, so I'm comfortable in both environments..both have their + and -...
  14. Yeah..I remember that...that was one technology I wasn't an early adopter on...a number of friends got into it, and I recall watching a few movies on LD.....I stuck w/ VHS until DVD came out...around '98.
  15. True enough...my fellow programmers under 40 use Java, C and C++, but a lot are using Perl, PHP, Ruby... I know one COBOL programmer, and he's 59... speaking of languages, I've been happy to see one of the languages of my youth (Objective-C) is having a resurgence because it is used for iPhone app development...
  16. My first was a Commodore 64...my first that I used in school was a TRS-80 w/ cassette tape drive! Learned BASIC and Pascal on it in high school...that got me hooked, along w/ getting online w/ CompuServe... I took a lot of computer language classes in college and grad school --Fortran, COBOL, C, C++, LISP, Prolog....the language I've used most professionally, though, is Java which I taught myself in the mid '90s...still using it today.
  17. Fascinating..never seen that t-top version in person...only seen it in the AMT catalog from '78 or '79..
  18. LoL...she was more of a workaholic than I am...always working, always on her Blackberry returning emails all times of the day and night..
  19. Last time I watched a movie (at home) w/ a girlfriend we were both busy w/ our laptops. Maybe that's why were aren't together any more..
  20. Yes..sounds like that kid needs to build a time machine so he can literally live in the past.... Ed's grousings about 1968 sound like my older brother..he's stuck in the past.. 1968 wasn't a particularly good year in the US...war raging, political assassinations, unrest, etc.. What's vinyl? J/K. I never had vinyl back in the day, barely got into cassettes before the CD era began.
  21. Got a Model Roundup I'm not familiar w/ the RoG Carrera RS...I have a Testors one, I think it is a Fujimi tool IIRC. Got a Model Roundup package in the mail w/ the '76 Gremlin, my 2nd Dirty Donny Chevy van, and my 6th or so '70 Super Bee (always coming up w/ ideas for Mopie builds). The Gremlin box is HUGE...considering how few parts the kit has, it's a bit much..I bet the 'original artwork' gimmick doesn't last for long..
  22. A couple of big plastic toolboxes. When I have a dedicated hobby room (my hobby room shares space w/ my home office in my current house) I plan to do something more elaborate..
  23. I think I saw a propeller accessory like that on a '49-50 Ford once.
  24. He's got some interesting stuff...not perfect, but workable...I recently got the '32 Ford B400. One I got a few years ago that I like is the bubbletop '61 Olds 88..with Modelhaus chrome, it fits together pretty nicely..
  25. It would be cool to upload content directly into my head...no more being 'offline'... but I don't want to end up like people in 'The Matrix'..slaves to the computers.. got to watch out for the rise of Skynet also..
