  1. I've never read the book..was Christine also a '58 Fury in the book? I've read Kings' 'From a Buick 8'..strange car in that one...not sure if that has movie potential or not. I knew a kid in my high school who was a couple years ahead of me that had a '69 Charger very similar to the car in Christine..this was in '85-86. Had a few '60s-70s pony cars and muscle cars in my school--an orange '68-69 Road Runner, a '69 Chevelle, a couple early Camaros, several '65-69 Mustangs. There were a bunch of '80s vintage fun cars in my school also..several Monte Carlo SSes, Mustang GTs (incl. my '87) and LX 5.0s, Camaro Z28s and IROC-Zs, Trans Ams and GTAs, and one Grand National.. As far as Christine, maybe the new movie will trash dozens of Priuses, Volts, and Leafs (Leaves)? A battle of hybrid and electric cars (w/ the Volt in the hero car role)
  2. Oh yeah...seen that one...
  3. Sweet build...I have the Tamiya McLarens of that era, haven't sprung for any of the Fujimi ones...waiting on the Fujimi 97T to come out, ordered as an xmas gift for my sister, the Senna fanatic...but I'm afraid I won't get it before January..
  4. I like the AMT '71 Dusters for the engines for various swaps...and the chassis to update old MPC kits. The Revell '32 Ford kits for the 5.0 engine to swap into various Mustangs, etc. The AMT '68-69 Plymouths for the Hemis, 440s, and chassis for swaps w/ older MPC kits, etc..
  5. LoL... reminds of Tawny Kitaen..as a teenager, I thought she was hawt in that Whitesnake video w/ the Jaguar, today, not so much..time hasn't been gentle to her...
  6. Sharp build...love those classic big Chevys..
  7. Ok, makes sense. And the Outlaws of today w/ the huge roof wings are an outgrowth of sprint cars, I think? (my open wheel racing knowledge is pretty much limited to Indy/CART/IRL and F1..)
  8. Sounds like a good plan. I need to get started on my stash...I have at least 1500 unbuilts, 250 or so restorable 'used' builtups... and at least 20-25 years until I plan to retire. But I seem to buy 5 or so kits a month (new or old), but don't finish more than 1-2 a year lately...I'm falling behind..
  9. Very cool... now I'm not familiar really w/ this genre of race car, but how does a Grant King car compare to Revell's Kurtis midgets? Is this a similar type of car, later, larger?
  10. With the two VPs, the original was very much of it's time and place...the cars were new and it seemed to me to have captured an early '70s vibe. (though I'm too young to remember that era). The remake didn't have the same sense of time and place..the later Kowalski could have been driving a Neon and it would have been the same movie. (Though I do like Viggo Mortensen--he was very good in 'A History of Violence', 'Eastern Promises' and other films)..
  11. Sweet build...that's one of my favorite years of Impalas...have 2 of them in my to build closet.
  12. I watch the DOH show when I was a kid...outgrew it at around age 12..
  13. Mine came in the mail yesterday. Pretty cool, something totally outside my usual kit genre...looks like it will build up very nicely. Looking forward to the Offy version.
  14. Ya, no doubt an acquired taste... as a cinephile myself, I've been exploring a lot of French and HK cinema over the last decade... and American independents like Jim Jarmusch and John Sayles. One of the things I love about Netflix..a huge catalog to explore. Seen some very weird and esoteric stuff that I liked.
  15. Hollywood Knights was pretty good, IIRC...saw it once about 10 years ago. As far as old 'car' movies, my favorites are 'Bullitt', 'Vanishing Point', 'Duel' and 'The Blues Brothers'...probably seen each of those 20 times, back in the VHS era and on DVD. Never seen 'Easy Rider', my older brother likes it. Will have to rent it sometime. As far as more recent 'car' movies, I love 'Ronin' and the first 'Transporter' movie. Hated 'Death Proof' for the senseless Mopar destruction, as bad as the 'Dukes of Hazzard' movies/show...
  16. It's probably a generational thing, but I watched 'American Graffiti' once, didn't think it was all that great. Tried watching 'Two Lane Blacktop', couldn't get through the whole thing...found it unwatchable.
  17. Looks like a low budget 'Fast and the Furious' for the rat rod crowd.
  18. The tall, slab sides has been a styling aspect of all the LX models (300,Charger, Magnum, Challenger). Never cared for the thickness, or the tiny side windows of the 300 and Magnum. But the pure goodness of the RWD V8 nature of these cars make me overlook the chunkyness..
  19. Very cool..I love these mainstreamer conversions.
  20. That Lambo would make a great kit.
  21. Got a MIB unbuilt MPC '78 Firebird Trans Am today...first one I've had molded in white w/ the solid roof. I've had plans for a while to build a Rockford Files car replica, and this is a good starting point. I've built a couple of the later MPC '78 kits (black & gold box art) and they had the t-tops pre cut, IIRC. Also some Missing Link Resin parts, incl. a '77-81 Firebird Formula hood..plan to do a '79 Formula using an MPC '79 T/A kit that's on it's way...
  22. My 1500+ unbuilts..keep adding to the list.
  23. My ex-brother-in-law #1 had one of those, along w/ a TR-6..they seemed to spend more time in the driveway broken than being driven.
  24. I like the Challenger also quite a bit...I sat in a sweet black w/ blue stripe R/T 'Mopar' edition one at the local new car show today. They had a couple of Chargers also, but 2010 ones. Saw the new Durango and Grand Cherokee also..I've also considered a new Grand Cherokee to replace my '00 one.
  25. Dodge has the 2dr market covered w/ the Challenger...couldn't see them having 2 large 2drs...not a big enough market.
