YOU'RE ON THE RIGHT PATH! -
The only other consideration is the width of the 2-door Phaeton door. The Phaeton originally came with 4-doors and both were a bit narrower than the Roadster's doors. I decided to go with the Roadster door opening on my Tubster: Grafted the AMT '32 Phaeton and Revell Deuce Roadster bodies together

Mike, You just never know who's looking over your shoulder... Hey, Brother! @carnut Your '34 5 window outlaw is a great example of how a chopped top can & should look like! -
@Miatatom & @alan barton Here's the key to the success of a step-cut chop: Alignment - Door Jambs/Seams - Temporary Alignment Blocks Interlocking Parts - Fine tuning - Measuring, Filing & Sanding - Less Body Filler Surface Tension - Increased Friction & Gluing Surface And, the only thing I might add would be Parallel Cuts - includes level & angle cuts - the degree of angle/tilt of/on the blade (Knife/Saw) makes the difference of fit & finish. Angle Cuts are used to align surfaces Fine tuning - Measuring, Filing & Sanding - Less Body Filler Door Jambs/Seams & Increased Friction & Gluing Surface

Tim, Thanks! Coming from you... that is the best compliment I could have ever expected!! You have been one of my mentors and now that I have had the opportunity to experience, first hand what it takes to create hot rods in scale. It has become more important to share what we know with every modeler out there willing to learn and try new/old hot rod building methods that we've grown up with over the years. -KK -

@Bullybeef The saw blades come in different depths & thickness' You'll want to take into consideration how much material you will be removing with just the thickness of the blade. Draging your #11 Exacto blade removes the least material! -

Starting with the body from the AMT '34 Ford 5-Window Coupe or the AMT '34 Ford Street Rod: we'll go step-by-step taking the stock body and chopping it's top as shown in the picture below: K&R Kustoms+Rods '34 5ive Window Chopped Coupe in front of the stock kit body After marking the area's to be removed, about 3 scale inches, the first cuts are made above the area around the C-pillar or back of the roof: then step cut the B-pillars (lower on the door side and higher on the body side of the post: then on to the A-pillar: very carefully cut below the back of the body above the sail panel to half way through the rear side window: a slight v-cut ay the base of the A-pillar will allow it to be brought back to meet the shortened upper post: with a little filing and sanding the rear lower portion of the back of the roof will fit right in: gaps can be filled wit small pieces of styrene and feathered into the cuts: the step cut on the B-pillar makes it simple to keep the door edge aligned while reconnecting the chopped top to the body. This also works on chopping a 5ive window deuce body, too: Let me know if you'd like me to post a step-by-step chop on the REVELL '32 Ford 5ive Window Coupe, too! OK? -KK

Not to interrupt your progress on this project, but if you'd like to have a "full" kit, I might be able to help! -KK Let me know, OK?

1934 Ford 5-Window Early 60's Altered
Kit Karson replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
ADL, thanks for the link to this build! When Bass hooked up with GMG to build the chopped '34 5 Window gasser, I watched every episode and follower it all the way to SEMA! The change in direction you have taken, has me and several other intrigued! Keep us up to date, Brother!! @Rocking Rodney Rat and I chopped the AMT '34 coupe while attending the 2018 GNSR with you. So, to that end, knowing that Ed's chopped coupe is not currently available, I'll set up a page here on our MCM Forum on how easy it is to chop the AMT '34 5 window coupe body! ADL, with all that I've seen over the past few years of your ability and eye for detail simply amazes me. There's something I think some of your followers don't know about you, you have an advantage that many model builders haven't had the opportunity to experience; you have an everyday job that allows you to work on the real cars both restored and modified (hot rodded) '20s, '30s & '40s automobiles! This @tim boyd inspired Model A Pickup project that you have been working on will be yet another spot on hot rod from your bench! And, to have @Rocking Rodney Rat share his '29 Model A Pickup here is a flash back for me. You have improved your building techniques and your selection of parts that you pull together help create many memorable hot rod models, Brother! Keep up the good work and more importantly, keep sharing your step-by-step pictures and written narratives... so much is being gained by and played out for others to learn from... shown in every point of progress that your so modestly share! We have to encourage others to build from their heart and pass this awesome hobby onto our younger modelers around the world! MCM Forum is an well established platform for model car and truck builders from all four corners of our globe! I want to thank Gregg, Dave and every modeler here for their hard work building and maintaining this site! -KK ps I'd like to follow up on something you mentioned earlier in this article, I'd like to see other Revell '29 Ford Pickup builds! There are so many versions that I know are out there!! Here's one from the combined benches of K&R Kustoms+Rods: Both @Rocking Rodney Rat & I built this several years ago! Fun project!!

Admirable effort! Been down this road myself... not an easy process, is it? Keep going and be sure that there will be a few of us that will be watching over your shoulder, Brother! -KK
