'70s Paint Jobs
Modlbldr replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love this style of paint job. Both for the skill and work involved and the results from it. I have tried one simple paint job like these on a 65 Impala and had a few mistakes so as to have to start over but I am determined to try again. I have a 63 Galaxie that I want to do. Just trying to plan it all out. I'd like to do a bit of striping with some flames in a panel. Every time I see a picture like the last one Trendsetta posted of the tape work I study it for a while to get ideas. The way I figure it, I can't succeed without trying it. May take a while. Later- -
Hey Deuces- what would it take to talk you out of the side mirror on that 57 Ford since you're going to build it as a Gasser? I still need one more for my project. Later-

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

Hey there, I kinda feel bad that I ditched you guys back in R3, but I'd like to get back in with my 64 Tbolt. I started this years ago as a build of a Jairus Watson drawing that I liked. Got as far as painting it and stalled out (actually the second stalling of this project.) I am back at it hot and heavy with a different paint job. If you'll have me, I'm in. http:// http:// http:// Last two photos are as of today. Later- -
I got this beautiful PE detail set from my Buddy the other day, so there will be another highly detailed build in the future. I've always wanted to do a nicely detailed Tbolt someday. This will help. Later-

I got the interior done today. Fortunately these Tbolts were not luxury vehicles, so no need to go all out on the detailing. My plan was to tint the side windows anyway so this, in my opinion, is just good enough. Got to start getting a few more off of the bench anyway. Later-

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. An old, worn-out family sedan. I'd like to find a rebuilder of the Johan 75? Cutlass. My old girlfriend had one in the late 80's. Later-

It's got me thinking of doing a build of drag race team with an old, slow car. "Beetlebaum Racing". Now to find a good subject car. Great. Another project idea. Later-

Thanks Dann. Been working on the small details- dash gauges, detail paint, engine work. Life has been pretty busy lately so the hobby has slowed. Finally got my BMF adhesive so I can make some BMF this weekend and maybe foil my 57 Ford wagon and this. Later-

Thanks. The tires and wheels are from the Phantom Vickie kit. Later-

Revell Baja Bronco My Way

That turned out very nice. I also like the two tone on the roof with the grille in white. Well thought out color combination. Later- -
My Grandmother had a white one too. I'd love to fine one of those to build that little tin can. Later-

So, I live in Eastern WA state and on 9/20 I ordered a bottle of BMF adhesive off of eBay. The vendor (nothing against them) is in Illinois. Said package was shipped via Economy shipping to my home. Here it is Oct 1 and it still hasn't arrived. Now, I am not really complaining, but this made me think of a story an older friend of mine used to quote from. Whenever we would play cards and he was losing he would say "....and here comes Beetlebaum" so I finally had to look up the reference. https://youtu.be/Xp9xJ9PbclE I just didn't know that FedEx used retired old race horses to make deliveries...... While waiting for my BMF glue to arrive from Illinois, (11 days and counting!!!- I've gotten packages from Japan in 5 days) I am back on this one. I had painted it a custom mix of green artists paint but didn't like it. I stripped it and painted it in Testors Go Mango. Did a little accent to the grille and taillights with the Tamiya panel line accent. I started this many years ago and it is time to get it finished. Later-

Excellent work your doing on this, even considering the paint mishap. I love the look of these Evos and will have to pick me up one soon. Keep at it! Looking great! Later- -
Looking good so far. Like the dark blue interior. Later-

Good to hear. It is a beautifully designed kit. You will definitely enjoy it. Later-

Great ideas David on the napkin or paper towel since they will be thicker and I could even use the "quicker picker-upper", since it's quilted. Lol. I also like the idea of looking for a quilt pattern online to print off. Later-

Funny you should mention the blanket. My wife is into quilting and she keeps telling me that I need a quilt to put on the back seat. I might try to figure out a way. Tissue and white glue??? I am trying to get her to help me resize a couple of pictures of vintage road maps for the passenger seat. My idea from the beginning was a summer road trip from the late 50's to early 60's. Later-
