what is "good design"?
lordairgtar replied to southpier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Aurfalien...Good call on the Cube. A friend of mine has one and he is pleased with his as well. I like the fact that they made it a mirror image when importing to the US and other places driving on the left side of the roads. -
what kind of Pontiac?
lordairgtar replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Buick has used Chevy's inline six in their cars before the energy crisis. A Special and the Skylark could be had with one in 1969. http://ccco.s3.amazonaws.com/kb_photos/75/608_12_low_res.jpeg -
What did you see on the road today?
lordairgtar replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That would be something called Plasti-dip. -
Suppose there's an IRS under there?

Kudos to you, Atmobil. You know how the world works. Myself, I don't get into the stance scene but I don't hate it. I admire the work and thinking that goes into the design. One of my friends has a old school Beetle with stanced wheels...kinda looks cool. As with anything, there is a right way and a wrong way to design the parts. Since Lownslow is a machinist and a designer, I'm sure he knows what he's doing under his car. I've seen some crazy unsafe stuff out there regardless of the type of car scene they were in. In my age area, we know the likes of Buterra and Winfield and the Alexander Bros do/did some great and awesome things properly, but if I myself tried to replicate those builds, I'd seriously screw them up. But I can build wiring harnesses like a Boss. -

Same stuff they use to decorate NASCAR racers. They are not painted anymore except for the base color. If you see a Eddie's Window Treatments van, that graphic is a wrap. When it's life as a work van is through, they remove the wrap leaving a plain white (usually) paint job which is better for resale. -
Kit Cars, Clones and Replicas in scale
lordairgtar replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I knew someone that had a real Rolls Bug by Barris. It had quad headlamps. Not sure what the kit was supposed to be. -
Yeah, it's 1/32 scale, but it's still pretty Weird

1/25 Revell Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon 2'n'1
lordairgtar replied to Matt T.'s topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The only comparison I made was a sagging bumper. Basically a non issue. Just reminiscing. I would not give a pass to things related to safety. The sag was so miniscule that in a model, you would not notice it. I'm an artist and I notice things like this plus I've drawn automotive art since the 80s so I see things and I can see the differences in a model in regards to real cars. -

I can see some of the errors in the design, but I can deal with it and hopefully the next subject out will be better if companies are paying attention to their consumers. I do get the feeling that whenever a test shot is leaked, a lot of the critics are online googling picks of the real car and going over it with a fine toothed comb just to find the flaw. no matter how miniscule...it's like a puzzle to them. Find the mistake, win the internet. Then there is the objective critic who finds the flaw and proposes a method of dealing with it. I don't mean to suggest we say it's good enough, but I think we should make our comments a bit less hateful sounding. Like saying I'm never buying this company's kits ever....but we all know you will. Real cars are not without their problems as well. I remember that the rear bumper on a 60 Buick sagged just a bit on one side. Some restored versions have fixed the issue but I prefer the sag as that is what I remember growing up riding in one....but I digress. -
Some cool Heller info
lordairgtar replied to aurfalien's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Awesome detail in the old IMC fashion. With care, they are awesome models. The Alpine A210 being the fiddliest. I think with taking time through each build step, they make nice models. -

lordairgtar replied to aurfalien's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know Phillipe thru emails back and forth. I'm a big fan of the old Heller / AMT kits. He was missing an important piece in his collection, the double kit featuring the Matra and Brabham open wheel cars sold under the AMT label. I sent him one of my unbuilt minty fresh kits. -
Arrangements for the inevitable
lordairgtar replied to wayne swayze's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Our club recently held an auction of things built and collected buy a beloved member. One close friend of his coordinated the sale to other modellers eventually liquidating the model collection. I think a few final items were auctioned off at meetings. I think this is what I will have done with mine when I leave this mortal coil. -
Are your models collecting dust?
lordairgtar replied to angelo7's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh sure Andy. You're the one who got that before I could get my hands on it. Darn! But seriously, nice score. -

Elvis's Stutz
lordairgtar replied to Miserable Soul's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The only Stutz that is similar was the Renwal Revival 66 kit. Those were closer to the Exner penned proposals than the production car Elvis had. -

Resto-Mods & Modern Hot Rods
lordairgtar replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Me being 60 years old, I have to say that coil overs actually were used on rods in the late 50s and early 60s, so it is period correct. Jag rear ends wound up under a lot of rods too. A older lady in my car club has a British Ford sedan from the early 60s with a modern Ford Pinto engine in it...twice the power as that old Brit iron lump. Her husband had a Ford Anglia with a 350 Chevy in it. -
Flawless detail :)
lordairgtar replied to Ognib's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Besides the over and over operation of the lights and exhaust cutouts, it's cool. Only one thing I'd change....the duallie wheels in the back, sorry that rat rod truck vibe is past it's prime. Other than that, it's a pretty sharp car.
