Love the Chaika, Mr Geiger. Thanks for the pics of the Volga, Mr Zeats. You can see the Buick and Packard influence in the design of that big sedan. A resin Checker marathon would give one a decent start on scratch/kitbashing one.

I've seen a test shot model a couple of months ago and I was very impressed with it. If I can muster my skills, I might try and duplicate the car in the pic above. I've even seen under the hood of it and it is clean.

I know the man that owns this car. Nice guy and has several others. Has a Boyd built car, and Troy Trepanier built cars as well.

I just love the GAZ 24. It really is a nice looking car. I've had a hankering to own a Russian car, but like you I can not afford to get one out of Russia. There was supposed to be a guy in Texas that has the big Chaikas and ZILs. Maybe some Russian friends here with business contacts in Russia can help you get the car here. About the Caprice...I would also leave the radio alone, maybe get a booster amp on it in an out of sight place and then get a Redi-Rad for the radio. Although simple, with detailing, the car looks rather good. There are a few models of this and the Alfa racer on the forums. These are old Merit tools kits made by SMER.

I talked to someone from Revell about this. Apparently all tooling for the Revival series is non repairable and will never be released. I have everyone of the kits except for the Playboy. Although seen on advert sheets and boxes, I have never seen an actual Jordan Playbot in kit form. Interesting thought on the Duesenberg, it was issued in two color combos. Same tan and brown, but in reverse. One could make a dark brown Duesy with no tan if they were to own both versions...which I do.

I have to give a shout out to Heller. Very fiddly kits on some, but nice when built with care. They did a cross market with AMT and gave us such beauties as the Renault Gordini, Renault Alpine racer, Lotus, Matra...all sold as AMT kits in double boxes and in their own box.

This build is all scratch built from copper, brass and other materials. I am amazed at it. You might want to go to the beginning as I linked 30 pages after the first post.

Also Chrysler Turbine cars, The JoHan Mercedes' and those Trumpeter Chinese limousines. Found one buy a different Chinese maker but it seems to be the same car as the Trumpeter.

We live in Wisconsin and my step daughter is obsessed with Kelli Pickler. She's been to several of her shows and went to see her in Boston. On the way back, they hit up a museum in Hershey PA and brought back for me two plain brown boxed kits they sell of the Highway Pioneers kits. A 1910 International truck and a Packard. Neat stuff. Plus some regional brand potato chips from different makers in PA. Five different brands...Middleswarth, Dieffenbach's, Herr's and Utz. Also a bag of homemade by the Amish chips. Reviews forthcoming.

Interesting thing about the drawing on the model box. It's a Japanese market version of the Mustang II. Note added turn lights under bumpers and the fender amber side light. Also in the rear there would be similar lights under that bumper for reverse lights. The back up lens in the car's tail lamp would get an amber bulb to replace the clear bulb and work with the amber lense above it. Interesting to note is the Japanese market version used LHD steering.

You can use the AMT kit sedan body. It's the same as a 210 except for the chrome trim piece. The Bel Air has a sunken detail that was usually painted white in the center valley. The 210 trim was a single thin piece of chrome without that white painted valley. Study the pics of the Bel Air post sedan and the pic of your grandfather's car and the difference will be evident. Luckily, the AMT kit did not add the front fender trim piece that is seen on most Bel Airs.

What historical societies do is purchase properties or get lucky enough to convince owner to donate. Eminent domain is mostly used by governments. Rarely does a foundation or private party get to practise it.

You can't touch a Gremlin for $500 these days. A cheap rusty one that needs engine work is $2000 now.

Ah Yes! The mighty 304, a true 5 liter. Ford's 302 was only 4.9 liters, but that would never look good on a fender, so 5.0 it was.
