  1. Eh I still use silver paint for scripts, door handles, door locks, all the small parts that I'd have a pain BMFing. I just say that they are silver painted rather than chrome.
  2. Actually if he had the VIN we could determine whether it was factory installed or not, since the VIN includes both the model and engine installed (position 6/7 and 8 respectively).
  3. Might list the Chryslers, since I know they rebadged Dodges as Chryslers (and Plymouths as well) for sale in Canada.
  4. Actually it's not that bad. I don't usually do chrome window frames so that's not an issue for me. For everything else, it's a fine thickness. I will grant the fact that if the surface has a lot of slight height changes, then it may not sit as well as BMF would.
  5. I'm cheap so I use the chrome ductwork tape found at the local hardware store.
  6. Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they put in a 5.0 for the export market. Heck, the Mexican 80's Monte SS came with the 350 and 4-speed manual, whereas the US version only came with a H.O. 305 and 3/4-speed auto.
  7. I also use the large spray cans, usually Krylon or Rustoleum (weird huh, but the stuff works great). For primer, I just use the cheap Walmart primer (bout a buck a can, depending on location). A large thing to remember is to use thin coats. One of the large causes of bad paint jobs is thick coats that cause the paint to pool up or not stick in the corners.
  8. Would be nice to get some of the more "mundane" kits, at least for spare parts.
  9. I just use superglue from Wally World (can't remember the brand, but the bottle has a blue label.) I also use white glue for windows/lights and for temporary fitment.
  10. I wonder why one of the companies doesn't come out with a more modern motor-home that can be attached to some of the newer truck kits.
  11. Casey: 1:1 tires are 235/75R15 which are roughly 29" in diameter and 9" wide. Got the body mounts attached and started on the leaf spring mounts.
  12. Yeah I know about the Tamiya body, though I'm going to scratchbuild my own since it's easy enough to do. Plus I can detail easier and I don't have to cut off the doors, hood, and roof. 1/12 is also better since I can use dimensions from the 1/24 Tamiya kit and just upscale them by 2. Anywho, got the basic frame together. I wanted to bend the tubing for the frame rails, but since it was rectangle tube, it didn't want to bend at all. So I just cut it apart and glued it in the shape I wanted, and then "laminated" the top and bottom with some strip styrene. Once I get the rest of the details on (body mounts, leaf spring mounts, etc.), I'm going to put on some bondo to fill in the gaps. Compared to my 1/24 Tamiya Frame Leaf springs almost complete (just need to add the leaf retainers)
  13. Looks very nice! I like the paint scheme you chose. Surprised that you don't see too many built. I built one box stock with the kit decals, but decided to go with a body colored grille.
  14. You know, it seems like doing something like this should be considered legal. If you can provide documented proof that it is a new body rather than one from an existing vehicle, then it should be fine to use the old VIN tags. On topic though, I think that it's great that companies are starting to offer new steel bodies for vintage cars. Companies have been making fiberglass tubs for Jeeps, Broncos, and Scouts for years. Sure if the original body is clean enough to simply weld in panels, it's all good. However if the body is filled with rot, then it would be simpler to just get a brand new body (especially one that's built better than the original). There's also the fact that people can build their own chassis for the body if they so choose, and I believe in many states it could be registered as a kit car. Of course, not sure how insurance would work for that.
  15. Gah, you're right, I'll start a thread there too! (Really though, no pics yet! )
  16. Yes you read right, I'm going to take on the daunting task of making a 1/12 scale Jeep Wrangler, scratchbuilt mind you! I've started on the frame, and have gotten the framerails pretty much complete. Don't have pics yet since I didn't finish the frame quite yet, but I'll have some pics monday. I'm also going to start on making the axles. How I determined the frame dimensions was easy. I found a nice picture online that had the specs of the frame (in mm), so all I did was measure the picture with a ruler, and determine the scale of the picture; using some maths, I was able to find the correction factor to convert the dimensions to 1/12 scale, so basically all I had to do was measure the frame on the paper with a ruler, and then upscale it with the correction factor in order to get my 1/12 dimensions. The build itself will be mostly stock, with a few minor mods. Paint job will be a secret though, until I get around to painting it! Keep in mind I'm going to school as well, so it will be a long project!
  17. Or the question that's already been answered.
  18. You know, I've always wondered about that...since it was the only red Fury, was it a special order? (I don't remember if they mentioned it or not.) If not, how was it sprayed red (was the paint sprayer evil?) If it was special ordered, was the red paint evil? Maybe it was like the made for TV Herbie movie where an evil picture was dropped in the paint mix. Of course if it was the paint, then wouldn't all the other Belvederes that used that red be evil?
  19. Normally they have an episode every Thursday night (I believe) on PBS. Or you can do like I mentioned above and buy the DVDs.
  20. Nice thing is they have the DVD sets on Amazon, 1-3, 4-6, etc. Only thing is they're expensive, but if you keep an eye on them, they'll sometimes have them for cheap.
  21. That's awesome! I prefer the looks of the maxivan version over the regular length version they had later on, but regardless you did a great job on that.
  22. So basically just get one of the older AMT GMC truck kits and get the resin long bed.
  23. Plus the Fall Guy truck was an 80's model. AMT's GMC pickup was once out as a Fall Guy kit, then later they made it a normal truck with all the extra parts (and of course the stupid bed compartment "doors" on the bedsides remained).
  24. Works for me, but I'm using Chrome (got sick of Firefox being slow). What happens when you try to post them?
