  1. Whoa...great model!
  2. Can someone tell me definitely when to spray Tamiya gloss clear over a paint job? I read somewhere that it needs to be done either within half an hour of the paint application or at least a month afterward. Is this correct? And does the same apply to Testors glosscoat? Thanks for setting me straight.
  3. Thanks for the help, everyone! I'm following your advice, and I've got cleaning stuff on order. Doing my research, I found out that there is a Jerry's Artarama in San Antonio, so I'll make a visit there this week to see what I can find, also. Thanks again, Jim
  4. How do you guys clean brushes after using bottle acrylic paint? I hold them under a stream of cold water and massage gently, but this is resulting in brushes with the bristles spread out, and no sharp tip. Anyone got any good ideas? Thanks...
  5. you oughta consider it a "rescue" more than a restoration! Good work and good luck!!
  6. That looks really good--nice paint! I've built a couple of these, and the decals all disintegrated, so good luck there. Looking forward to your completion.
  7. Now that's GOOD LOOKING!
  8. Can anyone tell me if the Tamiya BRZ coupe has a left hand drive option?
  9. Gonna get the figures of Henry and mechanic to go with it, Art?
  10. Wow! That looks great--what color did you use?
  11. Wow! Very nice!!
  12. Ever since I got one of those magnified led lights and a set of really fine liner brushes, I've been amazed at what I can do to stuff like that...
  13. Sitting at a stoplight at an I35 overpass in Schertz, TX, this morning, some sort of Ferrari made a left in front of me (don't know my Ferraris like I should, so I don't know what model--wouldn't even have been sure it was a Ferrari except for the yellow emblem on the fender and the sound as it took off). Still waiting at the light and a late '70s Pontiac Firebird Trans Am went by going the other way. Beautiful deep orange metallic with a gold firebird on the hood, snowflake wheels--very sharp.
  14. Beautiful, Harry...is that more antique bronze paint? Very elegant!
  15. I've been building models for a long time, but painting has always been my weak spot, so I'm always learning. What I'd like to ask is what techniques you use to spray clear out of a can? One heavy coat? Or mist, then heavy? What works best for you, and what brand? Thanks y'all...
  16. Revell must really have a lot of confidence in me to expect me to install that tiny mustang in the grille of the '99 Cobra model. I did get it glued in, but the poor little guy is now missing his legs. I think I'm going to need a squad of 1/25 mechanics to assist me with an increasing number of miniscule parts in models today.
  17. I've had good luck with Bleche White--it used to be branded as Westley's, but it has another brand name now, but still "Bleche White". If you'll do a search with the question, you'll find many options for stripping paint. Patience, Snake, patience. We've gotten a couple of good ideas already, and I'm sure we'll get more.
  18. Bill: where do you find Upol? I've never heard of it before, but I'm willing to give it a try, as well as the Krylon and Walmart spray. Thanks everyone, this is what I'm looking for.
  19. Angel--since mine is an old MPC from the last century, I imagine it'll pry apart pretty easy. Meanwhile, anybody got any ideas on clear coats?
  20. I was young and naive, what can I say? One of these days I'll dip it and paint it again...
  21. Well, yeah, since I use enamels a lot. The only yellowing I've noticed is on an MPC '74 Barracuda that I painted white and clear coated back sometime in the '80s...
  22. Can you guys give me some recommendations for a spray enamel clear coat? I've been using Testors, but I'm having a little trouble finding it anymore. Thanks
  23. popcorn sure makes you thirsty, doesn't it? Be right back...
  24. my favourite Mothers album
  25. I've got a paper sack full of Revell "cement for styrene plastic", the tubes with the blue label and yellow and orange stripes that you have to open with a straight pin. I bought them at a Walmart in Denton, TX, in 1978, for .12 each on sale. I can still squeeze most of them, so I guess those are still good. Also, one of my favorite hobby shops/toy stores used to be a place in east LA county called Terry's Toys. I think it was in Covina or West Covina, just off the San Bernardino, but who knows now? Anyway, Terry had a good selection of models back in the early '70s, all of them open but all complete. He'd write the price on the end of the box with a black crayon, and then take 50% off at the register. I got some good deals there, and amazingly still have some of them. A while back I was digging through my bunker stash and found a model with Terry's "3.98" on it--talk about a flashback...
