They use that strip on orange trucks? This is a cool build .. you wife will be all the talk around the coffee machine and over the newspapers .. I did a summer stint at the Connecticut Highway Department during college .
-
I like it better with the tall top
-
Sorry I can't contribute to this at ll .. I agree completely with you, John.

It's just not in the cards for me this year .. .. would have liked to continue on an hour south the see the grandkids .. and my bro-in-law in Wayne. I'll be expecting to see LOTS of photos here after the show!

I had this model, but it took more putty than I had .. -
I don't even look at the forum sections when I log on .. just hit the View New Content button and then I might not look at a post because of the section but it's usually the subject title that will keep me away. Even that doesn't keep me out of the 'not cars' sections if it just looks interesting. I do primarily build cars but there are some amazing truck and racing builders here and I usually pick some little trick up from them. Having so many different great builders here makes thread categories a waste of attention.

Very clean build and smooth paint!

The title is Model Cars MAGAZINE. I see all kinds of plastic things being posted here that seem way off topic. Where are all the MAGAZINEs? I thought this was the main topic when I joined but have see no magazines since then. Ok, go build something .. it's good for relaxing the brain.

The photos are tough to judge by .. and there's still a bunch of sanding to do to push it back. The front does get narrow as it comes down but that should be resolved when the body curve is done. I can see where it looks like the rear of the hood is narrow but I haven't noticed it as such. The hood is not squarely in place is these photos and just resting in place.

I have a dental pick I bought as a panel scriber. It has worked very well for many years. It just handles better than all the various other scribers I've purchased over the years.

Welcome, Stan. Hopefully we'll see some of those interesting sounding builds here!

A simply beautiful build!

That looks great, Harry! And a fine little tutorial on how you did it .. filed away for a future use. ")

The louvered custom hood was a lot further from a drop in fit as I also thought it would be .. other than the rounded corners. It looked doable so I started on it and still has a passel of fitting left to do. I started by aligning the back edge and measured how much the center overhung. Then I scribed that amount along the back edge .. it was about .05". I used a Dremal to rough cut it and a sanding stick from then on to get it back to the line. I also had to sand the bottom rear edges to a more vertical line and shorten them as I did that. From there it has been a little more sanding, check fit, sand more, check .. etc. It's not far off now but still needs some plastic removal at the rear. I also had to sand a little off the width to drop it between the fenders. It's good that it's mostly too large and is removal rather than adding material. It's mostly too far forward in the photos but the front edges align very well. The front fits pretty well and I'm thinking I'll just gob some two-part putty where the corners round and get that to at least follow the curve. I can shape it up once the basic shape is there. The louvered hood really looks good on the wagon!

Nice one .. you even got the wheels! Building cars you've owned is what I seem to do a lot of and I'm lucky that about all but 2 are available in one form or another. I've also done a few of my wife's and Dad's cars. Let us see the others

Looks like today .. don't forget your cameras and shower us from far away with PHOTOS! -
Welcome to the forum, John. I'm a 6 year retired Structural Engineer and I'm really enjoying being back into modeling and not berated by clients. They are what put me over the top and got me retired a couple years early. Now I just do whatever I want whenever I want. Those are some good looking models.. will be looking forward to seeing more.

That looks really good of a different subject! Can I ask where you got those wheels? They are very similar to ones I'm having to practically make from some resin ones I found with the holes for a build of the '69 Bug I had with some cheap rims. I'm at the point of adding the 4 lug nuts. -
I went up to my LHS to get some paint mixing bottles and came across this ... has small K&S Shapes of various shapes, sizes and lengths. In brass, aluminum and copper. This will be nice for all those little pieces I'm always needing. There's many very small ones buried under the big pieces in this box I found.

Does pretty well in snow too I see, Tom -
just divide the dimension by the scale .. so a 4" piece at 1/25 scale is 4 divided by 25 ... which is .16" It's all pretty simple .. even Windows has a calculator.
