What size rivet to get from Archer
Foxer replied to Scott Colmer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry I can't say exactly which of their rivits meets your needs, but their rivet PDF catalog has full size detail you can print and match to any rivet you need. -
Both are beautiful buildups! Some really ckean work there! I can appreciate these as I had five 1:1 924/944's. I do miss those engines, though .. I always loved the look of these slanted large cylinder fours. Both the Testors and Hasegawa 944's could use some improvements, but so do most kit engines. There are pieces of both that could be switched to make an even better one. I'm working on my first 944, an '84, and my last, a '91 S2 and have been stealing parts and switching form some junker kits I had. The '91 S2 is starting with the 3'0 liter engine from the Hasegawa 968 ... though it's really the same block as the 944 turbo. My avatar is the engine from the build of an '87 944 I had. This was REALLY fun convertin gth eturbo back to a normally aspirated. I also have one of my '81 924 Turbo in the works .. I need to get something finished. ehhe

Tip - A Tool to Dispense Thin Glue Precisely
Foxer replied to Miatatom's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I've used old syringes for years, but I'm a diabetic. Might be tough for people without syringe prescription to obtain a syringe ... at least here in MA -
I've used Black BMF and it worked but is thicker and doesn't stick as much as the regular chrome. It has been on this Subie for maybe 15 years and is still sticking tight. But, it is black.. not anything like gunmetal.

I like that all cars are global now ... buying a car because of country of origin is like buying an Apple product because it sounds like a fruit.

And all the "Big 3" have made their share of dogs .. buy the Car, not the Marketing! -
Great job on the BMF .. especially on the fins! This ones a BMF Bear .. mine's been sitting for 15 years waiting for me to finish the BMF ..

Good looking build of a non existant kit! The engine came out especially good looking.

Air-Trax Resin Saab 96

We'll be looking for a WIP on this little puppy .. -
Been working on the engine and adapting the blocked axles with extended driveshaft. Thi swas a test fit and looks good fit-wise. I see paint touchup is needed for all the handling the engine has endured. That one plugwire hole thats off will get hidden and burried once wire is on and it's in the engine bay. I made a carb adaptor to fit the truck kit intake manifold. This is the Monogram truck engine going in. I thought I'd be able to just extend the shocks easily but will need to fabricate 8 new ones .. an easy job, just tedious.

Welcome Christian .. you sure have someone to look up to in your brother. I'll be looking foward to seeing some of your work.

I think you should do this "girls car", Harry ... Sorry, I couldn't resist .. but I KNOW you already have the colors you'll use embedded in your brain and nothing we say will change it!

Dodge D200 Crew Cab '64

You're making this ugly thing beautiful! .. very nice! -
I agree greatly with Justin, butt the real reason I can't see Color Modulation used a lot with automotive subjects is the great varity of colors we use painting bodies. For armor where most all are actually assembled before painting (!) and are .. lets see.. green! I know many shades of green, but when various greens are offered in 5 shades for color modulation it becomes easy. Now try to color modulate a '68 PLymouth Fury in Hawaiian Blue. We're lucky it iS possible to get this color, but not in lighter or darker shadings. I guess we can add white and black. I just don't see it as practical or realistic and it is for Armor modelers. The principles behind Color Modulation ARE something good to know and I'm sure there places it can be put to use.

and look at how many of us survived this nightmarish childhood to reminish about it! eheh I have to mention those crunkled pieces of aluminum foil on our rabbit ears, though ... I still remember the correct position for channel 30.

Well, it fits BEHIND a Manx ...

Subaru Sambar 5/4/17 last mock up
Foxer replied to Foxer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Probably a good chance of a fit, but can't say for sure. I thought all Aoshima/s Sambar's were from same basis .. maybe Tom Geiger knows. This got sidetrackes a little but it's still right up front on my bench. Holidays and a '49 Merc Woody are fighting for time. I was starting final assembly so I'm actually expecting a completion! -
This is the way they did it in the '50's without tons of cash .. very nice!

Great photos, Gaute! I might crop the out of focus bottom of the Galaxie photo out and it would be difficult to tell if it's a 1:1 ..

It's at bottom of post in Jeff's signature .. http://www.motorcityresincasters.com/

Very beautiful build! Glad to see it in black as I'm working on an old one in flat black. The light wood looks very good .. can you tell us how it was done?

So you are stuck on a desert island...

Just a crate filled with evergreen sheet plastic .. I'm a simple man. (there better be salt-water proof glue .. and thin enough sheet so the styrene sails billow)
