  1. WoW! .. Trablant looking good! Now, that's a contradiction ..
  2. There have been a number of threads here on this subject. This is one: http://www.modelcars...showtopic=43856 Also use Google to search ... much better than the resident search engine. Paste this into Google: site:modelcarsmag.com welds I like using the Archer weld decals that Derrick recommended . .very easy to use. This is a dragster I used them on to weld the doors:
  3. I appreciate the comments and it stays in the Vans section I guess. I am happy to say the the saved link I had for the thread from before there was a truck section still goes to the thread. This thread can be locked as far as I'm concerned ... question answered and I don't want to re-start a discussion.
  4. I recently had an old post from On The Workbench moved to another section. It's my 85 GMC Van thread that was moved to the Pickups, Vans, SUF's and Light Commercial Trucks section. Yes, this is a van but It's a work-in-progress and that's where I would like it to be. I'm a bit bothered by all the delineating sections and only use the View New Content link here so breaking things into 50 sections means nothing. I know this was all discussed and I also am fine with it. With all the separate categories almost nothing should be in the On The Workbench or Under Glass sections. So, the way things are I wish my thread to be placed back where I originally posted it. When it's completed, I might put it in the Van section but don't berate me if it goes Under Glass ... where I really believe it belongs. If we are to have all these breakdowns there needs to be at least a section under every category or the general Under Glass and On-the-Workbench sections should be deleted. It's all just confusing and moving a two year old thread does not clear anything up. Thanks for listening and back to the workbench.
  5. I use one part putty extensively but never experienced blending or bleeding problems. Shrinkage, of course, but that was before I knew to use only thin layers. Once you know what the limits are, this is a quick and convenient product. Never say never.
  6. I got behind watching this thread .. everything I see here is worth singing about!!
  7. I know everyone and his brother says NEVER use One Part Putty for ANY bodywork. I do some form of bodywork on every model I build. I DO agree with everything about two-part putty you all say, but you have to sometimes consider the job at hand. Two-part putty IS the best . no shrink and quick cure. But it's the most inconvenient and costly to use and mixing is a guess from the get go. The Bondo putty Harry recommends is the best thing to happen to 2-part ... now you don't have the throw away half the $30 can as it ages. It's best for heavy and thick filling and does sand the best. But, most body work I do involves pretty thin applications .. filling small holes, evening out fills that used 2-part putty, blending good fitting parts and filling cut lines. One Part Body putty works fine for this .. and NO measurable shrinkage, Yes, it always shrinks but it's a percentage of the thickness. It you fill a .01" hole the shrinkage as good as non-existent. What's so good is it takes no time to grab some putty and fill. Drying time is fast also with thin applications. What it all comes down to is KNOW YOUR TOOLS. Both types of putty should be on your workbench to use as needed.
  8. I go along with Art. I came of car-age in the 60's and remember the rarity of mirrors. Getting outside mirrors on BOTH sides was expensive! I had to look back at pics of my first car .. a '51 Plymouth ... fully stock with at least driver side mirror .. had no photo showing the right side.
  9. That's a really good lucking work truck. Was the hoist beam copied from a 1:1? At first I thought the shape wrong, but with the hydraulic support it's perfect! I'm a structural engineer, so forgive me.
  10. VERY NICE!!!!!
  11. I had to look twice to get it but my eyes are not like new anymore. Looking good!
  12. That's a real looker .. nice job!
  13. So, why do they call you Corvair Jim again? Great builds AND story!
  14. Those shocks are dressed in tuxes!
  15. My family at the time was my fellow missile crew.
  16. That Monty looks good .. i assume the front fenders on the 1:1 were replacements?
  17. I forgot one ... what I drove in the Army since it WAS my responsibility. This was made from an Armored Personal Carrier but "mine" had a custom aluminum body that looked like a pickup. Look at the link for more photos and information ... if I say more, I'll have to kill you.
  18. Oh MY!!! I LIKE this!
