  1. Funny you mention an Audi R8... I was just thinking the other day about stuffing the drivetrain from one of those into a Hasegawa '67 Type II pickup... Well, I think I'm onto something here... This is Hasegawa's cubside '63 Bus kit. So far, I have lowered it, and added some Firestone Wide Ovals and 'Flipper' full wheels covers from an AMT '40 Ford Sedan delivery. The kit has no inner side panels of any kind, so I'll have to make some up- especially since I cut open the sliding sunroof, for reasons which now escape me. It will have a crusty finish- this will be fitted with a hitch and used to tow a Beetle-based Voksrod. The paint job is mostly complete as I type this, I'm just waiting for it to gas out a bit- it's a rusty black over yellow scheme. The rear liftgate was broken out, so I painted it green to indicate a junkyard replacement panel.
  2. PLEASE tell me those aren't the tires it comes with. I have no idea if they're accurate or not, but they look terrible. And that ride height- is it 4WD or something? Now, that one Tommy built is more like it.
  3. I think it was supposed to be a GM Hydramatic- that's what it most closely resembles.
  4. Same here with that. My avatar is Gumby now because I couldn't load my lightly-Photoshopped Harvey Dent image. My previous avatar was Jeff 'The Dude' Lebowski. No matter what you ever do in your life, you will never be as cool as The Dude. As far as avatars go, I just use something I personally find amusing, while keeping it SFW. User name is my real name, though I did go by 'Count Chuckula' for a while. That was a nickname given to me by a former supervisor at work. Harry even reworked a Count Chocula box image to read Count Chuckula, and that is what I used for my avatar during that time.
  5. Hey... that XT GT looks awfully close to the US-market '67 Falcon four-door nobody produces in kit form. I've been looking for just such an animal for a while now...
  6. I've never built this kit, but today I've been thinking about picking one up and having at it. Fun Urban Legend... Walter Koenig was chosen to play Pavel Chekov on Star Trek because of his resemblence to Davy, and it is a documented fact the producers made him wear a Davy Jones-styled wig until his own hair grew out.
  7. BODYWORK! I hate it passionately, but it seems like every project I do requires a sizable amount of it.
  8. I've got a similar project in the works, only I didn't shorten the cab area and the front end is removed completely. I'll be tagging along for sure!
  9. I'll be sending an order Ed's way tomorrow- he's still doing his thing, but I don't think it's a full-time gig for him.
  10. My experience buying online. Hey, sweet! Moebius Hornet for $18.99, plus $8.00 shipping! Ordered it a week ago, and the package is still in friggin' Mississippi. My experience buying from my local shops. Hey, sweet! Moebius Hornet for $24.99, no shipping, and it's on my way to/from work so fuel burned is a moot point, and it's in my possession immmediately. I'm supporting the local economy, having a pleasant conversation with Ed or Dean, maybe hanging out with a few local modelers, flipping through the new Revell catalog, bouncing ideas off the other guys for future projects, planning the next show.... yeah, wow... this is so much better than clicking 'buy now'!
  11. Four years late, but here goes... http://www.oldimagineer.info/
  12. Hubley did '60-'62 fullsize Fords, but not a '63. Judging from that and the fact you mentioned it has printing on the various chassis parts, I'd say you have an original AMT dealer promo.
  13. Nice! All I'd do is lower the nose a bit, but other than that it looks like something I'd build.
  14. Diggin' that compact 8-volt battery!
  15. Nice.
  16. Meh... don't care much for hobby 'chain stores'. Then again, I'm fortunate enough to live pretty close to what has GOT to be one of the best full-line hobby shops in the country, Hulings Hobby House- And this is a very small selection of his inventory. I'm also not to far from Dean's Hobby Stop... THAT place is a trip.
  17. Me likey very, very, VERY much! One of my favorite 1:1 cars and one of my favorite kits. I wasn't really digging the wire wheels at first, but the more I look at them the more I like them.
  18. Not sure how a shark car is supposed to sell cigarettes, but hey, the model it inspired is cool indeed.
  19. They did exactly that with the Circus Wagon (nee Dragon Wagon)- later on, it was retooled into the Hangman, but the old Dragon Wagon parts were recreated to bring it back to its original form.
  20. AMT's Merc could be built factory stock... with a chop, channel, and a more than a few custom body mods (not to mention a Cad mill and custom interior), the same cannot be said for Revell's take on the subject. The only thing AMT and Revell's Mercs have in common is the year and make. As far as the '58's- for me personally it's kind of a draw- there are things I really like and things I'm not so hot about with both versions. I really think the '69 Nova was a fantastic idea- it's pretty clear the AMT '72 tooling is about one more reissue away from being totally shot, and I don't think it would have been a job for RC2 (at the time) to have tooled up a new Nova. I do think Revell is missing the boat by not doing a modern-tool '68 or '69 Chevelle, especially considering there is so much room for improvement with the AMT kits. And of couse, a '68/'69 Chevelle kit could beget a pretty nice 1:25 '70 somewhere down the road, and '70 is a must-have year for many Chevelle nuts. Yeah, AMT and Monogram already make '70 Chevelle kits but, again, plenty of room for improvement, and don't try telling me a newly tooled version wouldn't be a strong seller.
  21. I might be in... just a matter of digging out the right parts.
  22. Shaping up nicely! Now I just need to get off my keister and get back at my own AMCs.
  23. I'd snub them and just not show up.
  24. Kind of left out one detail- not sure if I'll have enough room for a belly-mounted mower under the running boards- might need to go with some diabolical-looking sickle bar mower. Then again, still needs a drawbar... what's a tractor without a drawbar????
