99 Crew cab Chevy
Chuck Most replied to hd2500gmc's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I've been wondering when somebody was going to build an HD GM truck model. Liking what I see so far. Bangor Maine- isn't that where Stephen King lives? -
All I accomplished Saturday was taking the one MPC Dodge 8-bolt wheel I had and installing the hub in a '41 Lincoln wheel for a rat rod truck project I'll likely never finish. Haven't been at my bench in days- I did this on the coffee table watching Ghost Adventures that night!

First off, we have these- They are US Royal "Master" narrow whites with very nice sidewall detail but no tread to speak of. I know Replicas and Miniatures reproduces these in resin, but what kit were these from originally? And these- Both of them are Firestone Deluxe Champion slicks, the one on the left is marked as 9.00-15, and the one on the right is marked as 7.60-15 and has slightly sharper lettering detail than the wider slick. I'd appreciate any help!

Very interesting project, Mark. Like how it is turning out. -
Highly Detailed GENERAL LEE.... finally done...!1yr and 6 days

What Mr. Brownlee said. A soft pencil eraser will do the same, too, but you can't beat a cotton swab (Q-Tip) for bringing out the shine. -
David- I am working on a project that's kind of the opposite of what you have going on - a rear mounted engine with a front mounted radiator. What I did was run lengths of 3/32" solid-core solder as 'pipes', then connected that at the ends with electrical tape to serve as hose (to compensate for body/frame/engine movement) and short pieces of aluminum tubing used to 'clamp' the pieces together. I've used a similar approach on a few rat rods with the rad mounted behind the cab.

About three or four years ago, Tim Boyd converted the '05-'09 style to a ragtop in the other mag, other than scratchbuilding the convertible specific inner quarter panels and scratchbuilding a top boot (neither of which were too offputting as far as effort goes) it was pretty straightforward- lop off the stock across the top of the windshield and cut the roof just above the beltline.

Very different, and very cool indeed.

Galaxie LTD Product
Chuck Most replied to jphillips1970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The panel deliveries I've built had no warp to the body, but the one coupe I had did. It was pretty minor- it went away once the body was attached to the floor board casting. Not sure how severely yours is warped but just that might fix it. If it is too bad, Galaxie has a great return policy and will send you a replacement if you cannot fix the body you have. -
The thing I've noticed about all of the 1:24 bodies out there is this- none are perfect, but to me at least, the issues with them are ones I can either look past or fix easily. The notch I'm planning won't be anywhere near factory stock, and I do have to confess I'm not a stickler for 100% accuracy- IF such a thing exists in any scale model to begin with. ANd besides, which builds to you look back upon more fondly- the ones that fell together so easily you barely remember the build process, or the ones that required a little bit of creative technique and effort on your part? From that perspective, ANY of these transkits look like a lot of fun to me!

" Mercury Rising": 49 Mercury Convertible / "Bubble Top"
Chuck Most replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
There's an echo in here? John- love that dash- though I'd wanna be careful parallel parking this thing with that steering wheel. -
Loved the show, and I think this is the first Hunter Monaco I've seen done up in scale. Now, who's going to do the beater '70 Ford he had in the pilot?
