I've let Round 2 know EXACTLY how I feel about availability of this product! I already have plans for those 'red line' slicks!
-
I guess we're even on that end, though. I just stumbled across mine! I don't even remember what kit I was looking for when I came across this one, but when I saw it was in stock, I called Dean's and had it reserved, and picked it up two days later. (Then it spent another two days in the purple pond to strip all that paint!) Yeah, I wasn't too keen on either roll pan, but I like how you set the front end up on yours. I just like the look of the stock Connie. Of course, now I've got to order some new taillamps from Modelhaus, as one of my kit's missing pieces was one of the stock tails!

One thing first- who said die casts aren't model cars? Model cars are small scale replicas of real vehicles, does it really matter what material it's made of? What's with that? By that definition, I wonder why nobody slams resin kits, being they aren't styrene. Now, the 'cars' part... nobody complains about motorcycle models in MCM, and motorcycles (I think we can all agree) are NOT cars. But they get regular coverage in the mag. Not that I have a problem with that, but when Hot Rod used to run Harleys in the 1990's, the reader hate mail was pretty strongly against it! I loved the Fordson article (and the Bill Borgen buildup of the Entex steamer a few years back), but I'll be the very last guy to lead a charge for more tractors in MCM! So Terry, I suppose I do agree to you to a certain extent, but for my money, I'd rather see a Fordson tractor than another Mustang, '57 Chevy, musclecar, or whatever kit I've already seen built up ten times already. I'm thinking of robbing Chuck's techniques to use on a Farmall H diecast I have. I have very little interest in modern race cars or muscle cars, and MCM is chock full of them, but that does not seem to hinder my enjoyment of the mag at all. I don't collect many pre-built models, yet Wayne Moyer's column is one of the first things in the mag I check out when I get it. I enjoy seeing good models, no matter what material they're made from. I would gripe about aircraft, armor, or sci-fi kits in Model Cars (though I do dabble in those subjects every so often myself), but I can let a tractor every couple of years slide. Let me guess... you'd be against my buildup of the old Ertl Massey Ferguson 1155 1:25 kit being featured in the mag? :lol And Terry- PLEASE do not view that as a personal attack, I'm just airing MY opinion. I think we're both pretty much on the same page, but there might be a paragraph or two separating us!

Nope, mild custom. I'm toying with the idea of stuffing a Mod motor into it.

Judging from the responses I'm seeing so far, looks like a go!

Very cool! I've seen the IH farm tractor kit, but never the JD. I'd love to see these reissued!

John from Round 2 mentioned they were considering this about a year or so ago, and yes, I would buy several sets of 'em! Stop sitting on it and make it happen, Round 2!

I'm thinking of leaving it 'hardtopped', if for no other reason than to save a little work! I did manage to fill the holes for the mirrors and spotlights, they appear to have been opened using the good old 'jab the Exacto blade and twist' method- And blackwashing the grille on this one REALLY helps the look!

Less than $50 for an untouched kit? Man, now I feel like a doofus spending $35 on my started example! Really like how you reworked the stock bumper into a custom piece- mine had both the pans attached, so I had to take them off to run the stock bumpers! Goes without saying, I'll be watching this one.

I'm thinking "Phantom Yenko Chevette". (No, seriously!)

#158 is a KILLER!
Chuck Most replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
MUST try out that Hudson Bonneville racer. I liked all of Jairus' renderings, but I kept going back to that one... Chuck's Fordson was incredible... my grandfather restores Fordson tractors as a hobby, and he built one out of spare parts as a 'garage ornament'- it bears an uncanny resemblance to Chuck's model. I ALWAYS look forward to Dennis Doty's stories, and this issue was almost Doty overload! JB Welda's Lakester, the Chevy huckster, the base-line Comet body in Resin Talk, the overview of the Tamiya Lexus kit, and I'm not even covering everything... I'm going to go out on a limb and say #158's the best MCM yet, in the four years I've been reading it. The chrome powder article was cool, but kind of a bummer at the same time... Only thing missing was a Scratchbuilding School column, and that'll change next issue. -
Got the old roll pans off (didn't even need the 'freezer burn' technique this time, just slid a sharp #11 blade in there and off they popped, for the most part). Also got about 99% of the paint stripped, so I decided to test fit the stock front and rear bumpers to the body, since I needed to sand the mating surfaces for the roll pans after removing them. The bumpers still fit against the body pretty well, so less work for me in the end.

Probably one of these... (can't pick a favorite of the bunch, though!)- '78 IH Scout 'Sport Pickup', kind of my take on what an IH competitor to Dodge's Little Red Express may have looked like. Or maybe my '57 IH A-100 Perhaps this '38 International COE? Or this '46 International truckster... Yeah, can't pick a favorite!

Well... this was one of the final (if not THE final) Promolite Fury kits cast, I think it might have been a test casting, or something like that. I don't know what policies a particular resin caster might have with custom-casting something in clear resin, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. What's the worst that could happen- they'd say 'no'. I'm with you on that, though- I'd love to see a few choices in acrylic-style 'clear' steering wheels!

Now, Round 2 needs to reissue THIS. Yes, it's a '77, but it could pass as a '76, park one next to this Caprice in a Chevy showroom diorama, and you'd have the 'bookends' of the Chevy lineup!

Well, picked up another old AMT annual, this time a '62 Lincoln Continental sedan. Got it for a pretty good price, so I can look past the brush-paint over spray can job on the body, the big holes drilled out for mirrors and spotlights, and the missing b-pillars! Funny, this is the second AMT '62 annual kit I've bought that had been given a crude hardtop conversion! And the custom front and rear roll pans will need to come off- hope the old glue has dried out enough for them to put up too much of a fight! I'm going with a mild custom on this one, using a '65 reissue for the few needed missing pieces. About all I need are some engine/underhood parts (from the '65), a taillamp (I'll carve a new one out of clear plastic sprue), and just more or less cobble things up as I go along, as is my practice. And before you ask, yes, the bonus Go-Kart parts are long gone. Blows my mind, this kit was new 20 years before I was born, and it's sat around in a semi-started state for nearly half a century. Mind bending stuff, huh? Hopefully this kit will FINALLY get its chance to shine pretty soon.

Soooooo cool! Not a big Chevy guy, but I do like the '41-'46 trucks. (Used to have a '46, actually.) Killer job on the rust and weathering.
-
Like the color, can't wait to see that interior!
-
Very cool- I've been thinking of using one of these bodies on the upcoming Moebius kit.
-
Work a little closer, and try slowing down your sweep just a touch as you spray past the model. I've found this really helps minimize or eliminate orange peel. If it isn't too terrible, light sanding or polishing followed up with Scratch X should do the trick.

Just got the April MCM- in his ediorial Gregg mentions they might be taking a bit longer in the coming weeks or months with processing and shipping orders because of the recent Pacific earthquake. -
SOMEBODY likes his Tamiya sprays! Not that there's anything wrong with that. By the way, Marty- LOVE that signature line. I feel the same way!

Just an FYI for those interested, Modelhaus still offers a '61 Plymouth Fury curbside kit.

A car with Vega in the name! The editor of that other magazine (the one without "Model(s)" or "Car(s)" in the title), is going to flip his lid when I send him the link to this thread! And/or ban me!
