  1. Got the old roll pans off (didn't even need the 'freezer burn' technique this time, just slid a sharp #11 blade in there and off they popped, for the most part). Also got about 99% of the paint stripped, so I decided to test fit the stock front and rear bumpers to the body, since I needed to sand the mating surfaces for the roll pans after removing them. The bumpers still fit against the body pretty well, so less work for me in the end.
  2. Probably one of these... (can't pick a favorite of the bunch, though!)- '78 IH Scout 'Sport Pickup', kind of my take on what an IH competitor to Dodge's Little Red Express may have looked like. Or maybe my '57 IH A-100 Perhaps this '38 International COE? Or this '46 International truckster... Yeah, can't pick a favorite!
  3. Well... this was one of the final (if not THE final) Promolite Fury kits cast, I think it might have been a test casting, or something like that. I don't know what policies a particular resin caster might have with custom-casting something in clear resin, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. What's the worst that could happen- they'd say 'no'. I'm with you on that, though- I'd love to see a few choices in acrylic-style 'clear' steering wheels!
  4. Now, Round 2 needs to reissue THIS. Yes, it's a '77, but it could pass as a '76, park one next to this Caprice in a Chevy showroom diorama, and you'd have the 'bookends' of the Chevy lineup!
  5. Well, picked up another old AMT annual, this time a '62 Lincoln Continental sedan. Got it for a pretty good price, so I can look past the brush-paint over spray can job on the body, the big holes drilled out for mirrors and spotlights, and the missing b-pillars! Funny, this is the second AMT '62 annual kit I've bought that had been given a crude hardtop conversion! And the custom front and rear roll pans will need to come off- hope the old glue has dried out enough for them to put up too much of a fight! I'm going with a mild custom on this one, using a '65 reissue for the few needed missing pieces. About all I need are some engine/underhood parts (from the '65), a taillamp (I'll carve a new one out of clear plastic sprue), and just more or less cobble things up as I go along, as is my practice. And before you ask, yes, the bonus Go-Kart parts are long gone. Blows my mind, this kit was new 20 years before I was born, and it's sat around in a semi-started state for nearly half a century. Mind bending stuff, huh? Hopefully this kit will FINALLY get its chance to shine pretty soon.
  6. Soooooo cool! Not a big Chevy guy, but I do like the '41-'46 trucks. (Used to have a '46, actually.) Killer job on the rust and weathering.
  7. Like the color, can't wait to see that interior!
  8. Very cool- I've been thinking of using one of these bodies on the upcoming Moebius kit.
  9. Work a little closer, and try slowing down your sweep just a touch as you spray past the model. I've found this really helps minimize or eliminate orange peel. If it isn't too terrible, light sanding or polishing followed up with Scratch X should do the trick.
  10. Just got the April MCM- in his ediorial Gregg mentions they might be taking a bit longer in the coming weeks or months with processing and shipping orders because of the recent Pacific earthquake.
  11. SOMEBODY likes his Tamiya sprays! Not that there's anything wrong with that. By the way, Marty- LOVE that signature line. I feel the same way!
  12. Just an FYI for those interested, Modelhaus still offers a '61 Plymouth Fury curbside kit.
  13. A car with Vega in the name! The editor of that other magazine (the one without "Model(s)" or "Car(s)" in the title), is going to flip his lid when I send him the link to this thread! And/or ban me!
  14. One I've wanted for a long, long time... MPC '77 Chevette! And this was an IMPULSE buy I picked up from Dean's simly because I happened to notice he had one on the shelf! The real reason I was at Dean's was to get THIS... Original AMT '62 Lincoln Continental annual kit. Yep, it has a thick layer or ten of black brush paint on it, the front and rear roll pans have been installed, the Go-Kart bonus parts are long gone, , needs some bodywork and the b-pillars put back in, and it's missing a few little parts here and there, but still reasonably complete, and very buildable! Now I just need a '61, '63, '64, '67, and '68, and I'll have one of every Lincoln Continental produced in the '60's.
  15. I wish I could say that. I have that disease that makes it impossible for me to build any of the 400 kits I already have on hand until I get the new one I've been waiting for.
  16. GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..... Well, on the plus side, I do at least have two of the Lonestar kits on layaway at my local shop!
  17. Has anybody seen this thing out and about 'in the wild'. (I.E., on hobby shop shelves or in stock at online retailers.) Everything I'm seeing says late May, but I'm hoping they'll open the gate just a wee bit sooner. I'm chomping at the bit for a couple of these!
  18. Thanks, Rodney! The paint job's pretty sucky on it, though! I built it five or six years ago, before I really cared about how my paint jobs looked. On the '79, I replaced the somewhat soft fron axle with a scratchbuilt one. The pig is a reinforced Ford 9" which I robbed from an AMT Pro Street '70 Super Bee, then I made new axletubes from styrene rod. (Might have been an old length of sprue, now that I think of it.) The Pro Street Super Bee kit also still includes a stock Dana 60 axle you could modify the same way. The '79 kit came with a transfer case, but the AMT Monster Trucks have a pretty nice one, so does the '72 Blazer kit. If I were building what you're building, I'd get another Dana axle from the Monogram F-250/350 kit, cut out the pig, and make up new axle tubes from plastic or metal to the desired width and offset.
  19. I pretty much went back to the drawing board when I built this '79 Ford- scratchbuilt body lift, and a suspension made up from scrap monster truck parts! I basically built the truck as an excuse to buy those Iroks! Yes, a stock '79 F-350 would not have coil springs up front, but this ain't no stock truck!
  20. I like Bob's rendition much better than the actual Mazda concept!
  21. Back from the dead! Well, sort of... Perspective is such a strange thing, a year or so ago, I really liked the light blue metallic paint, now I'm not so sure. I'm thinking of stripping it and refinishing it in a loud muscle car color, like a yellow or orange. I intended to use the Jo-Han engine,as it'actully pretty good, and I robbed the Revell engine for another project, but now I'm thinking of an Aurora V8 from a Shelby Series 1 with a supercharger added. All I did was stumble across the project a few hours ago, and my mind is reeling.
  22. The rash of early '60's Furies continues! Love it.
  23. Did you guys see that? A snail, a glacier, and the drifting North American continent just blew past Revell's new product rollout schedule...
  24. Impala surf wagon? Nice!!!! But I'm a Crown Vic fanatic, I'll always like this one.
  25. Very cool phantom. Oh, is that a '70 Chevelle on Galaxie Limited '46 whitewalls in the background?
