Model Cars Magazine #154
Chuck Most replied to TOYCARTEC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A bit off topic, but I've been told by several women who have given birth that kidney stones and an abcessed tooth are much worse than giving birth! I had a bad tooth a few years back, and the pain was all I could think of! We're talking all-encompassing, exquisite, please-god-kill-me pain here, and this was only for about a day or so! I've never had kidney stones or thrown my back out, but people who have always say they're 'not something you'd like to try'. As a guy who wines over a hangnail, I applaud people who can function with any sort of pain like that. I think if I were in Gregg's shoes, I'd have just said "Ah, screw it!" a long time ago and told the doctor to pump me full of the best opiates Blue Cross would allow. -
Good luck to our northern neighbors

I'm not too worried. Worst case scenario? I miss work. Oh, boo-hoo... -
Just a quick, four day buildup. It's basically an MPC Roscoe's cop car body and interior tub on the chassis from a '70 Pro Street Super Bee, all hosed off in glorious "Purple-icious" paint, which is an uncanny match for Plum Crazy.

Oh, man, that is KILLER!!! A shame AMT killed the tooling for this thing when they turned it into a Nova wagon, then turned the Nova wagon into the Boss Nova drag car. This kit, and a few more of the Jo-Han '61 Olds F-85 wagons, has been on my wish list for a very long time!

Prius Model Kit - Preorders taken
Chuck Most replied to Hornistfuller's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Hey... did somebody say "hideously ugly" and was there mention of a Nissan Juke? How about a kit of THAT???? Or an Isuzu Vehicross? Yes, I'd buy either of those in kit form, and yes, I'm being dead serious. I'd even consider a Nissan Cube... -
Evening, folks! Just wondering if anyone casts a repop of the old MPC grille from the Dodge van annuals for use on the AMT/Ertl Rescue 911 ambulance. Don't really care if it comes plated or not, I'd just like to build one with the right grille, not the hybrid mid late '70's/early '80's Mish-mash included in the AMT version.

Dajiban Van
Chuck Most replied to RodneyBad's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Jeez, man! This thread made me ressurect my long-dormant Dodge van project. Thanks a lot!!!! -
I'm pretty sure I won't be overly impressed when I open the box to a Trumpeter Falcon, but then again, the first kit which ever really impressed me anyway was the Revell Edelbrock Midget... I think we're reaching a new level in the plastic hobby kit industry, kiddies? But, I doubt the Trumpeter will be anything close to that. Hey... I don't mind being proven wrong, and in this case I'd love that to happen! The best Trumpeter kit I've built was the Bonneville hardtop, and it's almost like each subassembly was designed by a different guy, and all the guys who designed those various subassemblies never spoke, communicated, or interacted with each other in any way during the process. Don't get me wrong- the kit looks great when it's completed, but some of the parts breakdown was just unnecessarily complex, and not even that convincing when done- the "Lego block" engine is a great example. I guess what Trumpeter kits mostly lack is 'consistency'- they're pretty good in one area, then fall flat on their keisters in another. I'd be happy of the Falcon and Ranchero kits were at least equal to the Bonnie, but I'd be elated if they were in the ballpark with a recent Revell tool. Again, I'll have to wait and see.

Very nicely done. The chrome trim looks very nice- especially considering it's NOT BMF!

In addition to many already mentioned (some really good ideas here, guys!)- AMT- Panel Delivery version for '53 F-100 Trophy Series MPC- Restoration of Panel Delivery body and floor to '32 Chevrolet kit Revell- '30 Ford closed cab pickup based on the Tudor kit Another request for a formal hardtop '72 Cutlass from Revell AMT- Standard Cutlass based on the '66 4-4-2 kit Revell- '51 Mercury based on '49 custom kit AMT- '49/'50 Ford or Mercury woody wagon based on the '49 Coupe kit AMT- '59 Cadillac Hearse based on Ecto 1a kit (Polar Lights version would be just as good, IMHO.) Revell- '99 Silverado 1500 updated to '03-'06 style Revell- Closed cab pickup and Fordor (yes I said it!) versions of the '32 Ford kits.

Model Cars Magazine #154
Chuck Most replied to TOYCARTEC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't even get why magazines (MCM and others) still bother with putting the month on the cover. This thread is called "Model Cars Magazine #154", not "Model Cars Magazine November Issue", after all! If you dropped the month altogether, and just went by the issue number, who'd even know it was overdue? Yeah, there would be some event and sale notices that would be outdated by the time you got the mag, but I've seen that happen quite a few times with other magazines? Can't really say I'm trying to defend OR condemn MCM's chronic tardiness, this is pretty much just a brain-fart ramble, but why even use the month when everybody refers to specific issues of MCM by their number much of the time anyway? -
I've been looking forward to this (and the 'Chero kit) since they were first announced on the ol' rumor mill several months back. I think I'll wait until I see the kit contents until I shell out any greenbacks for it, given Trumpeter's somewhat hit/miss tendencies with their automotive kits. If it's equal in quality to the Bonneville hardtop, great. If it's better, that would be ideal! Can't wait to see it!

This thing is going to be M-E-A-N.

I have purchased the Edelbrock V8 version, and I've sampled the Offy version, and I must say I'm impressed. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't see why the Grand Canyon is such a big tourist draw (it's just a big hole in the ground!), or who doesn't get his mind blown when told the universe is 'infinite' (it goes on forever? So what? So do most of my shifts at work.). My response to most things is 'Meh, whatev...". My response to the contents of these new Revell kits? "Wow!" Yeah, there are three or four things I don't like, but they're so inconsequential that they fall into the realm of nitpicking and I don't feel like wasting my time or yours pointing them out! My only real gripe is, because they're midgets, many of the parts would be too small to adapt to a traditional style hot rod model build. I'd love to have a set of those wheels and tires in a more appropriate (for a street driven rod) size for hot rod applications, for instance! I'll be buying quite a few more of these in the coming months. It's kind of like the old Grant King kit- quite a few variations possible out of box, and a pretty much infinite array of possibilities through kitbashing and scratchbuilding!
-
If it were mine, I'd be thinking along the lines of those big, fat meats and six-bolt wheels from the Revell Viper ACR. I have the Bobby Allison Matador kit, and I've been thinking of 'Viperizing' it a little.
-
I think they made a movie about die cast models making the transition from metal to plastic kits. "Lost In Translation", I believe it was called... Could the die cast Olds be adapted to a plastic kit? Of course. Will it happen? Who knows? I'd love to have one, even if it were 90% of the old AMT '51 Chevy kit (hint, hint).
-
Now THAT'S cool! I pass on this kit every time I see it, maybe next time I'll pick one up! I did build a rusty rod from the stock Monogram kit- I love these old Bulldogs.
-
Maybe its the late hour, but I think the black wash on the grille looks pretty good. I'm really liking what I see with the conversion parts.

I'm just glad to know I'm not the only guy with a Weird-O-Meter!
