Polar Lights Mistery Machine's actual scale
iBorg replied to Mad Slammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's in 1/23.297 scale if you......oh never mind. Its late and I'm being obnoxious. I agree the van seems to be a mixture of real vans. The best think to do would be to sit it beside a 1/25 van and see how close it is. I'd imagine it as a short wheelbase. -
Wip ARCA 2018 Ford

Curious as to the differences between the snappers and the glue kits. -

darrel waltrip tide car
iBorg replied to Ken Gilkeson's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Nice backdrop. Looks very realistic. Tide car is nice. Background just lacks trash and people to believe its real. -
I'm pretty sure I remember these from the old SLM group.
-
I'd like the Stroker McGurk. I never saw it at my LHS. The Corvette and T-Bird might show up in my buggy also.
-
Ron I disagree with you. I hate the noses people are putting on the hoods of the car.
-
I've got both of these. There's differences in the hood as well as the tail light panel. I believe there's also differences in the front end sheet metal. I agree Okey has made a valiant effort but he lacks the capital to make a go of it. I also question who has the molds for the Rambler, Comet and 'Cuda as the last time they were run was under the Testors banner. For all we know they could be in Round 2's storage facility but the molds not fit a current molding machine.
-
If you consider how much is shared between the Comet and the Maverick the amount of new parts to make the Maverick isn't that great. The body, grill, bumpers and tail lights. For the amount of demand, it seems fairly doable.

Did you make the decals? I know either Cady or Slixx made a set for the white Firebird but I've never seen a set for the black one.

I've often wondered why more of these kits haven't been converted into pro stocks. This is one to watch. At first I thought the hood scoop was incorrect but Warren Johnson ran one very similar.

Side by side by side Dragster builds...Kemp-Teresi-Sobak
iBorg replied to ClayK's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Okay, I'll try the hair dryer. A candle seems a bit inconsistent. For round shapes I use the tool handles from this: https://www.harborfreight.com/25-piece-doming-block-and-punch-set-93539.html My question is how did you get the pieces to stay together. I'm trying to just do the roll bar without the head restraint....I can glue it but its temporary at best. -
I want to think the AMT version of the Monza is close to a shovel nose. I agree the Revell isn't truly accurate for this car but is a pretty good body for most Monza funny cars.
-
I think the fronts are right. As for the decals......that last reissue left a lot to be desired. Jesse's picture of the Sandbagger is not the Piranha but the AMT Garlits dragster-seriously! The attached image is the correct Piranha sand dragster

Kurt Busch’s City Chevrolet Camaro
iBorg replied to Jay's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Can I bring an empty box and fill it from your display case? Your replicas go way beyond model in most cases. I love the extra details like the fuel stains. -
Mr. Speed used the Piranha chassis as well as AMT used it as a rear engined sand buggy. As for more than one Piranha funny car, see: https://www.nhra.com/news/2010/piranha As far as a second Piranha being at the bottom of a rock quarry, the literature I have from that time frame doesn't mention it. This car was sorta like Garlits' Dart, more a dragster in disguise than a stock based funny car. Of course two years later its design was not uncommon.

Darrell Waltrip’s 1990 Tide Lumina

Great display case. Have you shown the DoT Camaro before? -

Your photos make your models look so realistic. Great staging. Your models are also outstanding although is there supposed to be a vent on the passenger side window? Absolutely killer model. -
The Jeb Allen kit may be the cheapest as it has a bad reputation for the frame rails being twisted. I don't know if this was due to mold wear or what. I haven't heard this about the more recent issues of the same basic mold.
-
I'm pretty sure the most recent issue that should have chrome to work would be the Revell Jungle Jim dragster. The last McEwen Dragster (has the guy holding his ears) IS NOT the same mold family. It's origins is a double Snake/Mongoose set from the early 70's molded in 1/24.
-
The Hemi Sphere's first life was as the Don Garlits rail by AMT......it was molded in clear, just to add confusion to this discussion. Overall its a much better kit than the Ramchargers kit which was molded bt MPC. The biggest shortcomings of the AMT kit is the engine according to some is undersized but they're comparing it to a 426 when its actually a 392. That never bothered me but the blower scoop, like most kit blower scoops just seems wrong to me. The Ivo dragster dated to 1969 and was much later than the Greer Black and Prudhomme car. In my opinion it is the best front engined dragster in 1/25 although the Tony Nancy double kits are quite nice.

This is so far from an accurate replica. Where's the oil dripping from the engine. Plus the body needs rust holes......several rust hopes.

I was an early Apple devotee (I go back to system 6.5 on the Mac and Apple IIe). The Apple livery will get me to buy a Beemax kit. Maybe even build it.
