  1. I can see why replicating the nose would take so long. Not only are you trying to make the part but you're also constrained by making it as close in shape and size as the original, often without measurements and other details except their best guesses from photos. For example take two AMT Riveras, a reasonable common kit. Chop one then from pictures only chop the other one identically. Bet that's a challenge.
  2. Maybe they know we're all broke from taxes so they gave us a month of new releases that no one cares about?
  3. What I find interesting about this car and the Barry Setzer dragster is how many modelers want to build a copy but yet they were a dismal failure. I've got the dragster started and the M/T car is on my I'd build if I could figure out the decals list.
  4. You have three blue decals to help decide the color. The blue in the RAC logo is lighter. The blue stars are darker than the body. The Revell logo is just slightly lighter than the body color. Have you seen this Facebook page? https://www.facebook.com/groups/1557664791215362/
  5. If I could post more than a few words, I'd recommend Auto Models. A four hour trip for me. Worth the trip.
  6. Your work always looks like studio shots of the real car. You're very talented.
  7. Here's a couple of other issues. It looks like they're waving bye.....plane seems to be going into a not so good take off in the wrong direction. Plus this looks like a 60's family. Mom, Dad, Brother and Sis. They all won't fit into a Renault. I teach graphic design. I'm adding this one to my collection of bad ads.
  8. Remember you always heat aluminum and reduce the temper and make it softer. Printer's plate has a fairly high temper and is not very malleable.
  9. Let's face it, 89 NYC pimps can't be wrong!
  10. I've heard of Hobby Express but not Auto Models. I appreciate the suggestions.
  11. I'm going to be in Lancaster PA on a road trip to buy a new to me car. My trip will take me from Lancaster to the Ohio border and then back down to West Virginia. Any good shops in Pennsylvania that I should put on my route map? Thanks, Mike
  12. Looks like the real thing. That is my greatest compliment to a model.
  13. Actually the IMC kits are from the late 60's. Good but a bit finicky.
  14. That is a stealable idea. Great thinking.
  15. That's nice.
  16. Looks like a tremendous build. Great job especially if it was built from nothing but scrap.
  17. Steve can you post a pic of the decals? I have several of the reissues and the decals would be the reason to pick up this kit.
  18. I need to build one of these kits. What decals did you use? They look better than the kit decals.
  19. I answered this question for myself several years ago. There were several possibilities Dyno Don, Tommy Ivo, Don Garlits, Don Prudhomme and Tom McEwen. I was rather surprised with my answer then. I was certain it had to be Prudhomme but it very obviously became Dyno Don.
  20. I took a screen shot of the picture and opened it up in Photoshop and used the color picker to examine the colors. I used both the rear pillar and the roof figuring these would have similar lighting characteristics. If anything the Gas Mustang is slightly redder although distance tends to make colors darker. There may be a slight variation but I think to the naked eye the colors would be the same unless you had the two different colors side by side.
  21. I fear the small print shop solution may be a bit of a challenge. The thin .006-.008 plates were used on offset duplicators with a 11 x 17 sheet size. Those have pretty much disappeared and been replaced with digital technology. If you're wanting thin plate, may I suggest tooling metal. My favorite sources is Maid-O-Metal at http://www.stlouiscrafts.com/ Typically they sell their metal in a roll but I've had luck in the past calling and asking them to sell it in flat sheets. This is a lot softer than printer's plate. Larger offset presses use a thicker plate, about .012-.015. It has a coating on it which can be a challenge to remove. I'd use aluminum flashing from a home improvement store instead of printers plate. I've worked in the printing industry for almost forty years. A lot of what we used to do with film and plates is done digitally.
  22. G.O. was a favorite of mine. I totally agree we lost him way too soon.
  23. Of all the various Cuda bodies out there, Revell, Revell/Monogram, MPC and Jo-Han, none really have the grill right. Yours is by far the best I've seen.
