  1. This is a hard kit to finish. I'm sure the majority of these kits that were started are either in the box or busted against the wall. Without a doubt one of the best builds of this kit.
  2. I'm curious if Ollies has any otehr 1/8 kits.
  3. Top two holes are for part 21 (x2). Two holes on the back of the case are for wheelie supports. I'm not sure about the other holes on the bottom of the case, but I'd guess they're also for wheelie bars.
  4. Great start.....where did you find the chariot? This is going to be epic.
  5. I know color, its what I do. I took Jesse's top picture and color corrected it (asphalt is typically a pretty good neutral gray). While there are many shades of white buildings, asphalt is pretty consistent world wide. I've attached a color corrected image. The car is dead on purple. While the age of this photo is such it was shot on film, and film can distort color much more so than modern digital cameras, this car is unmistakably purple. The directions are in error.
  6. I went looking for actual pictures of the car on the web. I only found one of the actual car which is also used for the box art. Definitely a purple with strong magenta tones. The mistake may be a carry over from the mold also being used for the Warren Johnson GM Performance Parts Olds which was dark blue.
  7. While researching the '71 Supernationals, I found this from here: http://www.theaccelerationarchive.co.uk/roger/phillips_06_pt1.html Hope it helps.
  8. You're right.....I had them competing in the Winternationals which was February of 1972 but the 1971 SuperNationals was the last event of the NHRA calendar in '71. Now, let's get back on topic.
  9. Kansas John was the first to run an alloy block in his front engine dragster. That was in 1972. By then, very few front engine dragsters were competitive in the big show. I remember trash talking once and one of the drivers was yelling that a good funny would shut down the fueler.
  10. I don't have an opened Yellow Feather but if its just the Garlits kit with a different injector I'd use the PL Hawaiian. I think the Garlits motor lacks some of the details of either the PL or the Revell. If my Garlits build ever quits fighting me, I'm going to use the PL engine with some detail parts from the Garlits kit. The Revell kits lacks the chrome blower although its a pretty good engine even with the funky valve covers. I think both Revell's have the same motor. I do think it might be more appropriate for a bit later car. As for aftermarket, I have no idea what's out there.
  11. That's a 426 and not a 392. The best 426's are in the Johan Challengers......good luck finding one of those. Second choice that's commonly available would be the PL Funny Cars. Revell's Hawaiian/Chi-Town Hustler is an alloy aftermarket block. Not right for this build. If you're looking for a 392, the hands down best choice is the new Revell Willys gasser.
  12. I'm working on a Garlits RE dragster. I started this before the current reissue. One thing that has always maddened me about MPC's dragsters in general is how poorly the body fits the frame. I'm trying to narrow the body. The gray goo doesn't seem to be making as strong of a joint as I'd like. Does the newer plastic make a stronger bond? Thanks for the wisdom.
  13. I looked at my local store, and besides Aspen Nascar Fords they had pre- decorated newer bodied Mustang, Vette, and Dodge Challengers. They also had Lindberg 32 custom Fords and 3 way Model T Hot Rods, 61 Chevys convertibles and '72 Dodge Challengers. Also had the former Testors 38 Ford sedan which is a great source of street rod parts. Here's my question, how good is the Danica Aspen Ford?
  14. Great information.......that's the type of information I'm looking for.
  15. What's the date on the flyer?
  16. I never knew about the decal dating.
  17. With the flurry of reissues, are there good ways of dating kits. For example, prior to the late '60s kits were taped shut. Were the insides in poly bags? The boxes were much heavier in the early sixties. When for each manufacturer did the sealing of kit parts become normal? When did shrink wrapping become normal. I know UPC codes are from the 80's and web addresses form the last ten years. When did manufacturers start adding copyrights? I'd like to create a chart showing these changes as a way to date kits and identify the true age of the box and the contents. Any interest from the community?
  18. Found this again. wonderful work.....maybe I'll get back on some old projects. This is a wonderful build.
  19. For a first model, that looks amazing.
  20. I think we're seeing a major change. Many old line ways of making aftermarket stuff is dying or having alternative methodologies to achieve the same result, for example 3D printing taking the place of resin casting. There are some methodologies where there isn't a new technology to replace it. Short run aftermarket decals are reliant on technology that's 15-20 years old and obsolete. That is a concern. I believe the Hobbico mess is separate from Revell. Revell didn't bring Hobbico down, Hobbico's downfall was being too large and loosing the ability to control its empire. I do worry about this form of modeling hobby in the United States. Automotive modeling is much stronger in Japan and Europe than here. Automotive culture appears to be waning in the United States. Note the empty seats at most major automotive events in the United States and the general malaise toward cars in the 17-30 year population.
  21. I frankly love the Assassination MG A. Of course the problem is finding an MG A.
  22. I keep on watching this build and stopping at the pictures and thinking, MERCY that's amazing!!! All in 1/25? wow. AMAZING.
  23. What's scary in the completed listings, the great majority of his listings have sold......I guess I need to sell my kits as junkyard or close my eyes, paint them and sell them.
  24. Maybe the diorama was a barn find and the build ups a yard sale find from a pre-school.
  25. Oh my.......what did those poor kits do to deserve that? Mike
