  1. Its a common enough kit, I'd get another one before I tore that one apart.
  2. the RIGHT choice for an MG C. That by the way is one of the scariest cars I've ever rode in. A poor man's Shelby 427.
  3. Would love to get google earth to let me walk the aisles.....cool feature. Keeps crashing on me.
  4. You got the tin right! Hat off to you.....seems everyone else misses it.
  5. Thanks for the memories...... When both Gary and Garlits were pushing the envelope with their streamliners, my interest in drag racing was at its peak. When Ormbsy died, it was the start of my loss of interest in the sport. Now if I was given tickets to the "big show," I doubt I'd go.
  6. Tip of the hat to Vince Nelson, otherwise known as vintagedragcrazy. Just finished swapping some Ohio George decals.....now if I could figure out where my wife put them......
  7. In many ways this shares a lot with MPC's later year Corvettes (1969-1973?). What seems to me is that scaled up their 1/20th later Vette and then created new parts to create the 1963. A bit of background..... The MPC 1/20th Corvette was released as a near current model year in 1969. Then in the early 70's Revell released their successful 1/16th drag kits. MPC responded with their 1971 Nascar Charger and then followed with both this kit and a 1957.
  8. MPC was a bit madding when this kit was first issued. Their 1/25 kits had so-so detail with a few exceptions but their 1/20th stuff had detail that would stack up well with most kits today. One of the first kits I built was their 1/20th 1969 Corvette. . Then this kit....the same can be said. Very nicely detailed. It seemed that MPC had two skill levels then. One for 1/25th, which was lower and 1/20th which was a true replica. I agree with Dave that the scale is the issue. I can't see many people getting excited about 1/20th. The most successful 1/20th series is the Tamiya F! series. This doesn't seem to fit in well with that series. It is too small to display well with 1/16ths and too large for 1/25ths.
  9. I'd love to see some tutorials about how you did the lathe/mill work. The results look fantastic. Mike
  10. What Chrysler did on their pro stock leaf springs was to use offset brackets the moved the springs inboard. This got a bit more space for the tires. Another thing to remember about the 1970 Pro Stock rules (at least NHRA) was these were an outgrowth of Super Stock rules. The original PS rules were so limited, thet had a specific front rear weight balance (no mmore than 55% on rear) required in the rules. Mant of the cars carried spares to help make that weight rule.
  11. I remember this kit when it was first issued (showing my age). It was kitted in might be considered one of Revell's zeniths. They did this kit not long after the funny cars and the dragsters. One of Revell's gems. Sadly, many would say the 240Z falls short with an undersized body. I'm not sure if this body is to scale or not. Compared to the MPC and AMT stock cars, this was head and heels more accurate. I see a hobby shop run coming up later this week.
  12. silver or gold. Tires were most spcificly Firestone 500's. Firestone even made special front tires with the name Ronnie Sox in the sidewall. They did this fo a few other pro stock drivers.
  13. How differnt is this kit than the tuner series car? Also any sources of aftermarket decals? I remember this kit back in the day and is one of the few I sold I regret selleng. With a little detail work it was outstanding.
  14. Awesome detail.....
  15. What's your source for the Don Grotheer decals? Mike
  16. Earlier in the thread the size of the metalflake was mentioned..... I'm pretty sure that the flakes were part of the gelcoat of the fiberglass.
  17. I think the original issue had spy parts. My Dad and I built it. While I've got a couple of other models we built that one seems to have vanished. I'd love to get the spy parts and recreate my memory.
  18. Just fix the stupid gas gauge and look at it..... If you get stuck by the road because you ran out of gas maybe that's a life lesson you need.
  19. I remember those.....great to see them in color instead of grainy black and white.
  20. THANKS for the photos....I've got two of these that are waiting for restoration. Those will be a great help. Mike
  21. I just completled a trade with br67, Brandon Robertson. I'll admit I was a bit hesitant as he's in South Africa and often international trades cost so much in postage that I can buy whatever I'm trading for for less than what I'm paying for shipping. The way Brandon handled this was he had a person in the United States colect the parts from me, and then ship them to him in South Africa. He sent me notice that the person in California received my end of the trade and he then posted his end from South Africa with an estimated delivery time of two-three weeks. The actual delivery was about a week. TWO THUMBS way up. Brandon figured out a way to make this work to the benefit of both sides. Mike
  22. If you have any in progress pics of the Ferrari I'd love to see them. I have this kit, but lack the courage to attempt it. Mike
  23. Amazing.....great inspiration!
  24. I wish the fan shroud was a seperate piece. I want a couple for drag projects and they rarely run the shroud.
