Those cars are all sheetmetal hand made except for the nose and tail section. Those are made from Kevlar.

Sweet.

Can you see me now ?? LOL!!!

Here's a good debate question. Which is better, weight of paint and decals and clear VS. weight of a body wrap decal with no paint and no clear.
-
Yeah, they are wayyy to short. They need to scale to 32 inches for cars and trucks can be longer. On cars they don't need to be any longer to get a mechanical advantage or else they will constantly lift the front wheels and you wont be able to adjust that out of them. On a truck you are trying to plant the rear of vehicle that is wayyyy to lite in the rear to begin with, so you can get away with it. Plus the over all weight is too high compared to the hp and tq levels of a truck. They usually only use the ladder bars on off road 4x4's. Here, yours are nothing more than swing arms like on a semi truck. They still need to be longer than what you have there to make them look right. They also make different designs for trucks too. Some still look like car versions, but they make other versions that work the same way too. There's some info in the first link and an odd design in the second link. http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/susp/axlewrap/ http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/tractionbars.htm

Well the aero want matter much on a short track like Bristol or something similar. Could come into effect on the intermediate tracks though. Weights not always a bad thing as long as its in the right place. When we ran dirt we used to run a little heavy compared to the min. weight rule in the books. Actually helped handling there, but now I aint comparing apples to apples anymore though. Still on a NASCAR short track the weight wont hurt it as much as a super speedway. Here's something else to think about when it comes to weight. That external tank on the space shuttle was left plain ole orange foam instead of painting white to reduce weight since the thing burns up on re entry anyways. That alone proves the paint weighs quite a bit. If it was lead based it would weigh even more.

The added weight should be min. compared to the aero benefit you get from the clear though.

Cool. I help a friend out with his engine development on a closed course race boat. 360 Mopar jet drive, using a NASCAR block and heads for the foundation. No blowers allowed in his class though. Think of it as a high speed road course for boats. I found a u tube clip that explains it all.

You are correct. That's one way to tell a super speedway car from a short tracker. Also look at the wheel openings. A short tracker will have a lot of distance between the tires and fenders to prevent tire rub in case they touch another car and bend a fender. A super speedway car will have the fenders tucked in real tight on the tires to help air flow around the fenders. There used to be a lot of other stuff you cold do on the older cars, but the rules are too tight on these new cars. Can't do a lot to them at all.

Well it sounded good when I typed it ... lol.

The Spirit of 57 if it was a real drag car could have a scaled down body to cut the weight and aero. They did it all the time including in NASCAR until that was put a stop to. So it may very well be in scale. Something you'll have to research.

Actually, you both got it wrong. There is no such thing as a Max Hemi. There's the 426 RACE Hemi in race Hemi orange that sported a factory 12.5:1 compression and solid lifter cam. Then to meet NASCAR's demands for a certain amount of street cars to have the engine available a second Hemi was produced for the assembly lines. IT's called the Street Hemi and it's painted Street Hemi or just Hemi orange. There are two colors and one is much lighter orange than the other. The street version has 10.5:1 compression and a hydraulic camshaft slightly smaller than the race version. 284* .484" for the street version. And most street versions got the inline dual four intake, but, there are cross ram versions of the street Hemi as well.

Glad to hear you are back. I wanted to order like 8 or 10 sheets back before Christmas and was sad to find out you were not making decals anymore. I have some builds in limbo just waiting on decals. -
Would love to see it. I've wanted one of those cars for like, forever. Can't wait to see how you do it without a kit.

Yeah, the door does look odd. lol

That's pretty cool. I have not seen the generator with a pwr steer pump on it in years.

I can understand that. IF you want to wire it though, get your mags from MAD or Scale Models By Chris. Both have great products. Only thing I sealed in is the sides and bottom around the seat from the bell housing back, but I'm doing and open frame sling shot dragster. I'm doing mine from a pic of one I saw on the web that I liked. It was all aluminum and no chrome on it too. I ran all the fuel lines, oil lines and filters too. Hard part is getting the lines bent that go under the hat for me and caused me to park it for a while. If you decide to go that far let me know. I'll get you some more pics of my car so you can see how to wire and plumb it. It's not that hard to do.

I have one that is almost complete. I did it without the body. I went full on detail and got frustrated while trying to bend up the injector lines for the hat and put it aside for now. I likes the kit. Much easier to build the frame on than the shorter wheels base frames in other AMT kits of that time. I took the body and filled in the roof and deck lid and made a back glass for it. I'm going to put the dark red glass in it. Going to make it a curb side so to speak. Since it has the 'Cuda shaker scoop you wont see any engine other than the header pipes. Going to ad a wing to the rear and make some axles to put the tires on. Should be interesting when I get around to it. This is the only pic I have of it for now, but it's gone way past that stage. It's almost complete.

Anytime. Glad to help when I can.

No, I don't have skype. Just yahoo IM. I have only drilled out one and it was for a flat 4 Porsche engine. That was before MAD had 4 cyl dist. My opinion is they look like drilled out dist. Most kits don't have a good looking scaled dist. I was just looking at a Hemi I have that looks great, except for the fuel pump which is too small to scale. Seems like Dist. and fuel pumps end up like this. Most drilled dist. use a wire that is wayyy to big for scale too, so that looks out of place as well. Just my opinion on them, but it counts when you have worked on as many real factory, street and race cars as I have over the years.

Nope. Black, Orange, Yellow, Black, Gray, and stock and hp caps too. Such as black and tan for Mopar's, blue caps for Ford, black for GM and he makes a great looking GM HEI dist. for the later models. And makes some good mags too. Check out his whole site. He has lots of good stuff on there. Also check out Scale Models By Chris. He sells MADs parts along with his own. Great stuff form both of them.
