  1. Most of those who ordered this kit should have received theirs by now. We're up to 22 pages on this thread, with over 22,000 views, and I wonder if anyone has started building it yet.
  2. A blood brother to the Aston is Aurora's Maserati 3500GT. Aside from looking similar, they have the same problems with inaccurate roof shapes, bad wire wheels (probably the same ones), incorrect nose, and presumably underscale seats. Matt Bacon fixed all of that and ended up building the best Maserati kit I've ever seen. Another of our members (simonr) made similar modifications to the Aston and hit a home run. He also found some great wheels from Renaissance. Here's his build journal: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26809&page=1
  3. Spectacular job, plus outstanding photography.
  4. Just a small hill for those who climb the Pocher mountains.
  5. You can have it both ways. The Purdey shotgun case for birds, and a rifle carry case for deer. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vtg-MEXICAN-LEATHER-GUN-CASE-rifle-deer-scene-hunting-wool-lined-shotgun-tooled-/361297079373?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item541efbec4d
  6. $50 for 4 hand-laced wheels. Check measurements. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FERRARI-GTO-and-sports-cars1-24-hand-laced-spoked-wheels-fully-built-sets-of-2-/111654476345?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ff201a39
  7. If you go back and look at one of my links, there were several PII Springfields, the Henley being one of them. Chassis (without wheels and tires) & mechanicals built in Derby then shipped to Springfield for completion and bespoke fittings. http://www.rmauctions.com/mo12/monterey/lots/1931-rolls-royce-springfield-phantom-ii-henley-roadster-by-brewster--co/1052448 "On October 18, 1919, Rolls-Royce of America was launched in Springfield, Massachusetts and produced 2,944 Silver Ghost and New Phantom cars between 1921 and 1931. When production of the Phantom II ended in England, Springfield was left with a sparse inventory of Phantom I’s and a few imported Phantom II’s, so the Derby factory completed a series of “Americanized” Phantom II chassis and sent them to Springfield. " Here's an excellent build of the Monogram kit. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14314
  8. Here's another way to look at it. Color scheme looks similar to yours. That picnic set could keep you busy for weeks.
  9. Actually, that's how the toolkit is arranged in this kit. Might be easier to just make a lift-up trap door in the back of the floor. BTW, I spent some time looking for 1/16 guns without success.
  10. As for the canvas roof, Gerald Wingrove uses the dull side of silk fabric for his 1/15 convertible tops.
  11. Beautiful work.
  12. A remake of Ben-Hur?
  13. I was wondering how you were going to tackle the plug wire loom. Good job.
  14. Spectacular is a very small word for this kind of craftsmanship.
  15. There are no words. I'm familiar with many builds of this kit, but I've never seen anything like this.
  16. X2. Nice paint job.
  17. Johan's original Gold Cup issue that I posted above was molded in an accurate solid dark maroon that matched the 1:1 car I also posted above (both on page 1 of this thread). They carried over the box art illustration to the reissue that was molded in red. I believe there were only 2 or 3 other original 1:1 coupes, in blue or black.
  18. Judging by the way my suggestions are going, I'll say flat roof because I really think it should be a curved roof.
  19. I have often seen comments here about paint interacting badly with kits that are molded in red plastic. Would that have anything to do with this BMF problem, since the kit is molded in red? Jim's suggestions seem good, and others have suggested that extra barrier steps may be necessary for red plastic. I don't have experience in that area, but perhaps someone can chime in here.
  20. With black fenders, it will look pretty much like your Mercedes SS, right? That's better than all pale yellow with the same color fenders, which might look something like a white wedding rental car.
  21. Then I vote for maroon and black with 2-tone wheel covers. I just think the wood needs a rich contrast, and I don't see a pale yellow on this kind of SUV sporting car -- Goldfinger's car, yes. Not this one.
  22. Not to worry. Harry is a master at working with wood for ship models, antique aircraft frames, stagecoaches and riverboats, etc.
  23. Speaking of paint, I'd just toss green, gray or dark maroon into the selection.
  24. Exactly my plan for putting wheel covers on the Phantom III. I've collected spare parts from the PII kit, and a couple of glue bombs. It took a couple of donors to accommodate the spare wheels. The lacing wire wheels from the Mercedes SS kit are also the same size, and look great on the PII. Not that the PIII wire wheels have any problems - they're pretty good for plastic.
  25. I vote for a "biscuit" interior, which is a very light tan – lighter than shown in shaded pictures here, and a bit darker than the sunlight shots. Maybe a light tobacco brown? This is a 540K.
