  1. Nice job on one of my favorite kits.
  2. That is awesomely smooth work on the trunk lid.
  3. Door and hood fit look great.
  4. Your body modifications are sleeker and more stylish than the Pocher kit, which seems to have been influenced by Barker and Hooper Sedanca/cabriolet coachwork, and a bit closer to a Gurney-Nutting Phantom II Continental. This is the Gurney-Nutting car that Revell's 1/16 kit is based on. I might add that threads like this and some that Harry has done are invaluable to any modeler who wants to build a classic Rolls in any scale, especially a PII.
  5. Excellent job. It would be nice to see some interior shots. And be sure to do a work in progress thread on the 300SL.
  6. Nailed it.
  7. This is killer. Looking forward to the finish.
  8. 540K, different car. But Like Harry, I keep coming back to this one. Such spectacular work on such a teeny car, with such small detail. I can't imagine this kit being done better, except I'd like you to show your followers more engine detail, like on your PB account.
  9. I'd just buy Jay Leno's garage and decide later.
  10. You know, I can't think of any Gullwing-style kit, at any scale, that doesn't have problems with door fit (but I still haven't heard from anyone who has built the new Tamiya 300SL). Maybe the doors should be molded on to maintain form, but heavily scored for cutting out.
  11. Jeez. Does anybody recognize that this subject is dead on this forum? Stop making Harry have to play Whack-A-Mole.
  12. Another spectacular job.
  13. The Johan is a 500k -- actually there are two of them, a coupe and a roadster -- and the Monogram is a later 540k, based on a Cabriolet A (it also has a very inaccurate coupe version). The Johan kits are superb...very accurate and crisply detailed, made with direct access to a 1:1 source. The best plastic wire wheels I've ever seen at 1/25. The 1/24 Monogram can be a very nice model, though not as detailed and accurate.
  14. Matt. I'm sure you've done your homework on the car in your picture (which is a Cabriolet A and not the subject of the Johan kit), but I have many detail shots of that car, plus many other 500K special roadsters. I can send you a compressed file if you can use Stuffit Expander or something that will work with Stuffit files (sitx). Also, I suggest you go to Schlegelmilch.com for some excellent Special Roadster photography. Plus, we have a recent member on this forum (MAGIC MUFFLER, aka Billy Corbett), who does prep and maintenance work for Gooding and Company and their clients on the top classic Mercedes 500/540K examples they've sold.
  15. I think you will find other options if you read the link I posted above.
  16. Art just posted the most reliable way, and this subject has been discussed in detail before (it really belongs in the Question & Answer topic down the page). Here's a pretty good discussion of the issue, which becomes more illuminating the further down you read. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76226&hl=%2Brepainting+%2Bdiecast
  17. If you want to do an SSK/SSKL version of the 1/16 kit, you're going to have to shorten the chassis.
  18. I just looked at your complete Photobucket file on this 500K. It's truly impressive and shows off the interior and engine much better.
  19. Think of it as a recent restoration.
  20. I know the red/red/red 500K you're talking about, and it's over-the-top garish. Here's the SS I want to replicate in the 1/16 kit (hard to see, but it's gray with black fenders & molding, red interior. I don't know if you saw it, but Harry did a killer version of the kit a few months ago in yellow and black.
  21. Fabulous work, especially the chrome, and that dashboard is a jewel. You've reinforced my planned color scheme for the 1/16 SS Kabriolet (black and German gray with red interior). As you work your way up to a Pocher, I'd love to see what you'd do with the 1/16 540K kit.
  22. There is a reason why I flunked every course required for what you're doing, except for Art.
  23. Great job. Love the interior.
  24. Having vented my opinion on this, I feel better now. Carry on.
  25. I agree with Greg's shark nose Ferrari, and the most elegant livery to me has been the Lotus black-and-gold John Player Specials. But I'll go back further for my all-time favorite. The streamlined W196 Silver Arrow, 1954-55. "The one-two finish in Reims was repeated five times in 1954/55, with four other victories bringing the team’s record to a total of ten wins in 13 Grand Prix races, plus several second, third and fourth-place finishes. Juan Manuel Fangio clinched the drivers’ title in the World Championship in that year as well as the following one. The return of Mercedes-Benz to Formula One had been a compelling success." http://www.emercedesbenz.com/autos/mercedes-benz/motorsports/mercedes-benz-history-mercedes-silver-arrows-return-to-formula-one-in-1954/attachment/454182_765565_3597_2297_74298263124/
