  1. Tom, I've got a small surprise to give you as a gesture of thanks for all of the years of enjoyment that are associated with this event. I know there are hundreds(?) of individuals with involvement, however you are the"face" of the event to me.
  2. Greg (NOBLING), I guess that I must be somewhat on the other end of the spectrum from you. I do enjoy going to swap meets, flea markets and using coupons. However, a group of us make the pilgrimage to the NNL East on an annual basis. We do buy numerous kits and resin pieces there. When you factor in meals along the way, hotel expense and cost of gas, we really are overspending for the items we buy. Going to the NNL East goes way beyond buying kits. It is the fun of an extended road trip. It is the wonderful experience of the NNL and the hospitality of the Tri-State model groups (Diversified Scalerz as well) and all of the fantastic people that you might only see once a year. So in this respect, a few of the kits that I have purchased have been a little bit on the expensive side of things! LOL
  3. Thank you for the replies. Nacho Z, I used to participate on Facebook, but have not for quite some time. Maybe I should reboot my Facebook activity by updating/modifying my settings. There is, no doubt, a lot of good information that can be obtained through Facebook. Tom, all of the points you mentioned are excellent and seem to be grounded in common sense. I am familiar with the Tamiya kit that my friend Peter is building, and fit should be no issue. I also know that he and I went on a shopping trip to Dailey Hobbies so that he would have the Tamiya LP paints required. Since this is his first foray into this event, I am wishing him all the best. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I will be cheering on all those individuals and teams that hit the start button on Saturday!
  4. I am not partisipating this year, however a good friend of mine is (peter31a on this board). I believe that Tom has a "system" that works for him. Are there any hints/suggestions/pointers that some of the 24h veterans can offer up for new guys trying this daunting task?
  5. The exterior paint and interior color choice compliment each other. A clean build that could pass for the real thing. Well done.
  6. Nice looking Prowler. Great choice of color for the flame treatment. It gives them an icy appearance. Also, good job on shoe-horning the 340 into what amounts to a very limited space.
  7. I have a variety of paints from many mfgs. Most of my spray cans are from Tamiya. Bottles from Tamiya, Gunze, Humbrol, Testor, Bob's, Splash and others. Lately I have been buying a lot of artist's acrylics, mostly Golden brand. It is interesting that the pricing structure for these acrylics is based somewhat on the cost of the pigment itself. I do not know this for a fact, but it seems that the quality of the pigment in artist's acrylics is better than those found in hobby specific acrylics. Thinning them is to the same consistency that you would for any acrylic in order to spray through an airbrush.
  8. Thanks Erik. I still have a prior release still in the wrap. No PE and does have Tamiya decals. Should still build uo okay. ?
  9. Erik, is that the actual box art? If so, I don't see any mention of Cartograf. Cartograf is usually pretty clearly identified on the box art if they are the decal producer.
  10. I checked both Splash Paints and Zero Paints. The silver should be straight forward, however the light blue/green may be an issue. I did find a website with the Hexadecimal Coding. This is probably way too much information. LOL Mercedes F1 Colour Website: https://encycolorpedia.com/teams/motorsport/formula-one Silver The hexadecimal color code #b9c5c5 is a medium light shade of cyan. In the RGB color model #b9c5c5 is comprised of 72.55% red, 77.25% green and 77.25% blue. In the HSL color space #b9c5c5 has a hue of 180° (degrees), 9% saturation and 75% lightness. This color has an approximate wavelength of 491.41 nm. This color is used in the Mercedes-Benz logo and Mercedes-Benz in Formula One logo Blue / Green The hexadecimal color code #009994 is a medium dark shade of cyan. In the RGB color model #009994 is comprised of 0% red, 60% green and 58.04% blue. In the HSL color space #009994 has a hue of 178° (degrees), 100% saturation and 30% lightness. This color has an approximate wavelength of 492.78 nm. This color is used in the Mercedes-Benz in Formula One logo.
  11. My good friend peter31a, was kind enough to drive both of us to the Motor City NNL this past weekend. I have lost count, but believe that this is our fifth year attending. This show just keeps getting better and better. There are great models on the tables, and the vendor space is beyond belief. I took a few pictures, but was not attempting to photograph everything. I just took pictures of models that grabbed my attention. Here are a few shots and a link to my Fotki album. https://public.fotki.com/Bill-Eh/motor-city-nnl-15/
  12. My good friend, peter31a, and I also attended the Motor City NNL this past weekend. On the way we stopped at the HL at the Schoenherr Rd location and at Great Lakes Hobbies. There is nothing like shopping before going to an event with even more shopping. Kit prices in Toronto usually start in the low $40 dollar range and go way up from there. Going to the NNL is like being a kid in a candy shop! The vendor space was expanded this year. The number of vendor aisles was unbelievable. Yes, I did pick up some kits and supplies. I took a few picture and have posted a link in the Contest section. My apologies for the fuzzy pictures.
  13. Leslie, when you go shopping, you go SHOPPING! LOL Many nice score there.
  14. It looks nice and cleanly built. The decal yellowing is not really that noticable. Good job. I have an old Tamiya KTM kit that I need to get around to.
  15. Thanks for posting. It looks great.
  16. You picked up the Alfa with the nicest of the available liveries for that kit. I really like Martini cars! Have fun with your build.
  17. Congratulations James. Curious, what model won you the 2nd in closed-wheel?
  18. If you are into Thunderbolts, this web page may be of interest: http://www.angelfire.com/hi/427fairlane/index.html
  19. In one of GeeBee's (Geoff Brown) last posts in "What did you get today?", he shows two 250 ml bottles of Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, One has Retarder. This might be the equivalent of Mr Hobby self leveling thinner.
  20. Ray, I would suggest the very reliable Paasche H single action airbrush. They can usually be found at a very reasonable price. Who knows, you may just like it enough to keep on using it on other projects. ?
  21. No problems. The GREAT news is that TESTORS brand paints will still be available in both our countries.
  22. I stand corrected. I just read the respones that Jon Cole received from TESTORS.
  23. I think that I would disagree with you. Re-read the third paragraph.
